i reckon that purees will be a part of my diet as well for some time.. until i really get a handle on how to go about it all. im a bit nervous about solids myself. Actually... ive got another three weeks before im filled... so its not going to be easy for me, the weather is getting colder and i need more hot food. dear oh dear. lolit will be 7 weeks from the op when i have my first fill. Is this the normal time frame between op and first fill??

    Post-Op Banders

how wonderful that you were able to walk like that and not be winded.. you are doing really well. 27 pounds is a great weight loss. you will lose the bloated feeling . i cant quite remember, i think it was about five days before i fully realized that i had lost some swelling in my feet etc.

hang in there.. its always confusing and more exhausting when starting out... but you will get there. it does get easier im told. im still on soups, in the thicker stage now. ive had some pain in my shoulder after eating, im thinking thats a sign ive overdone it. im getting hungry now im waiting for my first fill. im looking forward to having more substantial foods myself. we are going into winter here in Australia, and hot food is making me more hungry. You did well with the meatball actually. did you make it ?? what was in it?? im getting very hungry for meat now, im sick of protein drinks.

    Post-Op Banders

I was banded 25 days ago.. ive lost about 17 pounds which is just great. ive lost swelling , a lot of pain has gone. Im still having issues with gas pain in the left shoulder after meals, im wondering if thats goign to be a long term issue with me. my incisions are an itchy mess of a night... rapid healing going on. sometimes i have to put calamine lotion on to ease it all. Im forgetting to drink the amount of Water i need, and need to re educate myself on that one. Im still on Soups but im allowing more potato etc in them now. still blending until smooth. im starting to have some hunger pains now for different types of food so my tummy is well on the way to being healed. i havent dared to try anything else yet apart from my soups. im still having Protein Drinks, mixed in water with greek yoghurt. that does help ease the hunger a bit. i got to my deitician on tuesday. then i have my second visit to the dr on the 9th may. im not sure if he will do a fill then... most likely he will. im suffering from a head cold right now which is making me really tired. Im wanting to rest up all the time. I havent started regular exercise yet. too many other things with family going on right now to get into a routine, but at least im managing to eat what im supposed to. i have to say, im really stoked with my progress so far. i dont mind if my weight loss slows up a little. im 66.

wildolphins... im having exactly the same issues. when i eat i get the pain on the left shoulder.. i must be having a tad too much.. .about a coffee cup full of soup at the moment. i reckon its the amount of food you are eating thats doing it to you as well.

    Caffeine

Idaho Jenn... i have been drinking caffeine since the day of the surgery.. and it hasnt hurt me one little bit. i wonder why your dr advised against it? there must be something in it that i dont know about.... anyway, its not hurting me at all. i wouldnt worry about it. In fact, if my dr told me to stay away from it i would want a very very good reason to stay off it.

    New Springer Here!!!

azehoselady... good on you for moving on this one and not leaving it any longer. i waited until i was 90 pounds overweight and a lot of health issues before i saw what i had to do. You will do well.... its so good that the whole pre op process moved quickly for you. it did for me as well. i liked it that way. keep us posted.
  11. i was on clear liquids for a week, then slowly introduced some other veges into broth. the only eggs im allowed to have are raw eggs at three weeks, and im not going that way. i reckon its too soon for you.
  12. Ive just had a couple of days with my sister, away from my home. its obvious now that im losing some weight and i look so much better in the face now that im getting comments from everywhere. Including my sister, who insisted i talk about how im doing it. BEcause i havent shared with anyone apart from my husband, i could only share with her about the liquid ''fast'' that ive been on a couple of weeks. My church often goes on liquid fasts when praying on an issue... so liquid fasts arent new to me. so, i shared only the eating plan im on... i didnt share about the band. In fact, we discussed the fact that my sister could do the same thing... after all the band isnt restricting me yet... so im doing it by willpower right now. We discussed that perhaps she could do it 2 weeks on, have 2 weeks very careful eating and keep repeating the exercise. She did say she wasnt prepared to give up red wine etc so I doubt very much if she would attempt it. she saw me eating nothing while she had her lunch and not worrying about it. My sister knows that i have a dietician on board. I had a lot of health issues and they know about that. i still feel very strongly about not sharing about the band itself... i dont think its going to change as time goes on. Im not confident that my family would be supportive at all. perhaps in a few years?? we will see.
  13. congratulations... yep, just keep your eye on how you will look in a few months.. it makes everything worth it.
  14. hi there Jesscaba... i bought some beef broth, some chicken broth, vege broth, greek yoghurt, skim milk powder, protein shake powder, vanilla and chocolate. ive done quite well on this, ive added some extra foods from my kitchen as well. Dont forget... de gas, some liquid pain killers. all the best.

    Medications?

hi Jackieu..sorry to hear that you are unwell.. sounds like a bad cold. Get some fresh lemons and hot water... drink as much hot lemon water as you can... vit. c. it helps a lot. Regarding meds for sore joints?? i have sore joints as well. i bought some panadol that you can dissolve in water. They have been really effective. Im still crushing my tablets up... my tummy has been very touchy the last few days. its getting better though. Definately try the lemon juice in hot water... and try and get some panadol... it works well. ( i just got the packet.. they are called ''panadeine rapid soluble) .. get well soon. judy
  16. How much are you eating at the moment?? what sort of food?? are you waiting between mouthfuls?? im not at the soft food stage yet..... reading what others have had to say, it could be how quickly are you eating, what sized mouthfuls are you eating?? someone said here that the size of bites should be no more than the fingernail of your little finger...then chew, chew, chew. Im sure there is lots of good info here... what do the others think ?? Im just repeating what ive learned so far. judy

  18. dmacdub... about four days after my surgery i could have eaten the carpet of the floor i was so hungry. lol. and, whats more i had pain in my stomach from being hungry... just like was getting an ulcer. It did go away after that though and now i couldnt care less really about food at all. Hang in there... it will improve. im guessing that a lot of shrinkage is taking place with the larger portion of stomach as well during this time.
  19. Dean21... can you give me the site on amazon for that book that you mention here please?? i may buy it myself. thanks a lot. judy
  20. you do need to keep up with your pain meds... dont wait until the pain gets bad as its harder to control... take your meds regularly for a few more days. The level of gas pain that you are experiencing is different with everyone.. some people only have it for a few days, others can have it much longer. theres no way of telling who has it for how long. im 17 days out and still getting it in my left shoulder. i went off pain meds way too soon. im back on them again now. ARe you walking much?/
  21. I read every comment here and i can identify with all of them. Ive only told my husband and my youngest daughter... even she is having difficulties coming to terms with it. In her eyes im supposed to be a ''tower of strength'' and an ''over comer'' with my weight. I have a son and an older daughter who just couldnt handle it at all.. I go to church ... i live in a small town and its a small congregation. i could share with my pastor what ive had done but no one else. its really sad. In fact, it makes me feel a bit angry that people are so prepared to judge without having a clue. Already, 17 days out, Im having success with pain going in my feet, swelling going in my feet and legs, my b/p is down by 15 systolic... and thats just the start. And, whats more, it is NOT an easy way out. In fact, there is no easy way out when one is overweight. This is doing'' more the hard yards'' in my book than just straight out dieting. We cant just have an ''off'' day and eat normally.... not any more. I think it takes a lot of courage and deep soul searching to come to the decision of lap banding. And, whats more , there are checks and balances in place to make sure that all surgery is legit. Im sad that i cant share with all my family. There are going to be times when i sit down to a family meal and its obvious to everyone that Ive changed big time. HOpefully by that time i will be back onto normal eating, in smaller portions, and that will be acceptable to them. I cant wait for the weight loss.... so far ive lost about 15 lbs.. in 17 days. thats great for a start. im having some issues with gastro pain, which i put down to bad decisions about introducing food.. and having milk, which i normally never have. All in all, this surgery has been harder on me than having my knees replaced, on many levels. But, im so glad that i did it. I really am. Im a bit scared, but as time goes and i understand more how my body is going to work with the band, i will get more confidence. its without doubt the biggest decision ive made as far as surgery is concerned... and its the most life changing as well. Sorry... ive written a book here... i just had to say....i fully agree with the posts here.

    Day 5 Post Op

hi there ready2Bfit.. enjoyed reading your post. oh... the joys of restricted eating when out with family. lol. but, i do feel for you. We, fortunately, have had a very quiet EAster break, so i havent had to grapple with any more than cooking and feeding my two men at home. I can just cope with that lol. ... im looking foward to having my first solid meals. thats nearly another two weeks away yet. I have to say, i think Ive upset my gut properly. Im able to start introducing some pureed fruit to my protein shakes. But, ive introduced some raspberries instead... and they have very small pips. i had no idea that it would upset my gut the way it did. Im in pain now. I have no pain or swelling in my tummy when i get up of a morning and feel really good, but as the day goes on... obviously its got something to do with food being introduced as well to my tummy, then swelling and gas pain comes back. Gas pain right through my gut... and up in my left shoulder. Its quite bad and makes me feel ill. i havent rung my dr... its EAster and i dont know that he would recommend anymore than i have worked out to do... and thats to go back to just broth with very small amounts of cooked ,pureed potato or carrot. so... i dont know how long its going to take to settle down. Im assuming its some diverticulitis that ive got... its not nice. Has anyone else here had the same issues as me?? i need some input here... any ideas please?? Ive been online and googled diverticulitis and lap bands and there isnt much at all to read . Ive had to use this reply section in order to get my post through... i hope you dont mind me doing that... i wanted to ask you... Im in Australia... what are ''grits"?.... judy
