It was my fault… i was having some issues, still wanting to lose some weight. We were going on holidays and i was concerned that i would put weight back on so i had a tiny amount taken out. It still left me with problems, even while away. I put up with it. Ive been home now for three months and the symptoms didnt leave. It wasn't until i was sitting up in bed night after night with reflux and vomiting that i knew i couldn't leave it any longer. the big issue was, my diet was getting bad because i was eating foods that were so easy to digest…. those foods were not good, nor were they giving me nutrition. Its 72 hours now since i had that amount removed and my tummy is still touchy…. so its going to take a while. I left it far too long.

HeatherinCA…. so you've had your band three years now? your weight loss has stalled?? when you say your diet isn't good… how much are you eating ? what sort of foods? I'm wondering if you have an ''acid stomach'… it definitely sounds irritated, for sure. Perhaps you are eating foods that are too acidic? have you tried taking some antacids? to see if that gives relief? even at 5 you have a lot of fill.. well, in comparison to me you do. ARE you having wine? i have to ask because that is one of the worst things we can have as it prevents weight loss. … even causes weight gain. Also, as its acidic, it causes acid stomach. This is why I'm asking you if you have tried any antacids. Ive been having issues. Ive lost about 35 lbs in two years and ive levelled out now. But, I'm having some white and red wine. I feel this is causing acidity and my stomach isn't good some of the time. I do slime a bit sometimes. i have to be very careful what i eat. i have a lot of Soups. At the moment I'm taking Zantac for the acidity… its helping me. So, do you think that your stomach is too acid? are you sleeping at night? i was sleeping half sitting up some nights…. last night i slept well after taking zantac.

ive been banded just over 12 months now. I had 1 cc put in about five weeks ago which brought me up to 4.5mls.. since then i sufferred with the soreness when i either drank or ate. when the coffee hit the pouch i could feel it. The same with everything i ate. Then i was having pain right through in that site from font to back. Eventually it spread down to my groin area and over my buttocks at the back. Of a night i was suffering with intense pain which is very much like a heat attack, but i knew it wasnt. That was relieved by taking quick eze, after about a half hour. also i was PBing. I found generally that i had more mucus. having more mucus in my throat and it was like having a head cold where i had to clear my sinuses all the time. Sometimes i had to vomit up the mucus to relieve the intense pain. I had to ring and see the dr. AFter discussion we decide to take a cc out... see how i manage and then come back in three weeks. Ive been greatly improved. i cant tell you how miserable i was for that period of time. Now i can eat with no discomfort. Not eating anymore than before but im managing to eat a bit faster than before. When i was struggling it would take me an hour to eat a cup full. Im hoping to have fills put in a 1/4 cc at a time from now on. i was in the red zone for sure. I think sometimes it pays to read up on the different zones and what to expect from them. Its very good information.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery
judych replied to TheCurvyMermaid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
how did you go with your appointment ?? did you have the same dr ??........ -
..more on the post above mine. you said that you were treated for an ulcer.. then it was found that it was a bacterial infection... how did they find that out ...?? I'm interested to know what they did...

another bad day. i cant wait to see the dr tomorrow. IM so miserable. reading your post i can see where your back played up when you ate. My pain is with me all the time. i had a bad night last night as well... kept wanting to vomit and bringing bile. i ended up with an extra pillow under my head... plus extra quick eze. It did settle about 2am . when i eat i have the discomfort in the region of the band as well as the sweeping backache that is with me all the time. ive been looking at my assessment chart that i get each time i go to the dr. on the 6th march i had 0.5 mls put in, up from 4 mls. Im thinking that i should have one ml taken out and i will ask if i can have some meds for possible inflammation. Its not the same dr that did the op but his partner. i havent had a lot to do with this one. i wish i were seeing my main dr actually but i have to get in quickly and he isnt available. im thinking of writing things down so i wont forget the symptoms im feeling. i dont want to miss anything that may tell him a different story. Im feeling so much more encouraged just talking on here about it. thanks for your contribution.

hi there... thanks for this. i will make a note of it all. The more i understand about what could be goign on the better equipped i will be when i see the dr tomorrow. im wondering if he will just remove some of th fill for now and give me a week or two to see how successful that is. im guessing thats what will happen. So you had the sleeve done? how painful was it?? are you happy with it all??

hi everyone. ive been offline from the forum for some months now. I had lapband surgery just over 12 months ago. I had some fill removed to go on a cruise last nov. This feb i had some put back. About four weeks ago i started having severe back pain, all the way from the ribcage down to the lower back around the tail bone. I was suffering with a bladder infection at the time and thought it was that. I was treated for the infection but the pain in the back didnt go away. Ive also been experiencing some problems laying flat to sleep, i do use a couple of pillows, not too thick. Ive been regurgitating quite a bit. its scary stuff. im also suffering with sliming nearly every day. im not able to eat much at all, have been living mainly on soups and runny stews. Ive booked in to have some fill removed on wednesday my time . Its only been this last week that i thought maybe it was the lap band that was giving me the constant back ache. ive been feeling most unwell with it all. Its painful to swallow as well. All info gratefully received. its good to be back. judych

Where Do You Notice The Weight-Loss First?
judych replied to Juli Salzman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i use chemical peels... they are marvellous for building collagen. Also have a skin roller (derma roller) which has lots of very small needles on the drum... i use that regularly, about twice a week to encourage collagen. thats good as well. i also use rose hip oil. i massage that in, after ive put some water on my face. im hoping that i can get away with chem peels and derma roller for some time. im 66. -
How Do You Move On After Messing Up???
judych replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i agree.. one episode doesnt mean you are a failure. i think that nearly everyone here has had episodes where things havent gone according to plan. its a huge thing going on in your life, and in ours as well. Lots of different aspects of why we overate in the first place ... they will all have to be dealt with eventually. The thing is... it wont happen overnight. Dont expect too much of yourself. Just take it a day at a time. Dont stres and worry about yesterday... today is enough to concern yourself with. You will do well... despite having odd episodes where you dont eat right. Thats human. it doesnt mean this surgery isnt going to be successful. Is depression a big thing with you?? if it is then perhaps seeing a dr about some meds may help you. I think that everyone has highs and really deep lows... i know im up and down a lot. REcognising that it will pass with me helps a lot. good luck, and if the depression is a big problem that is ongoign then seek some advice on it. -
Biggest Challeges This Far?
judych replied to lexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i think its extreme as well... and i know that i wouldnt be able to stick with it anyway... so i have to pay much more attention to the sized portions of meat... cut it up well before i even start... so a not to have a knife or fork in my hand while eating. and just stick with a teaspoon. its all a learning process. some lessons are hard to learn though. lol. -

have you tried just having hot drinks?? going off solids for 48 hours and having clear soups?? it sounds like inflammation. were you vomiting when the piece of food got stuck ?? sliming? i know when i have a bad episode that my pouch is very sore for a day or so. i have to be very careful .

Biggest Challeges This Far?
judych replied to lexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is one of the hardest things that i have to deal with as well . for bfast i have a small black coffee first.. .and five minutes after i have some Protein. other meals i have to wait for a drink.. thats hard.on monday just gone i had the worst episode of being stuck i could imagine. my tummy wasnt feeling all that great over that weekend... i should have known what was going to come.. gastritis has been going around here. anyway, i ate a piece of steak which was well cooked and moist. i must have eaten too quickly because it soon became apparent that i had to stop eating. this was about 6pm. there after, for at least four hours, i vomited continually. my pouch was so inflamed i couldnt even tolerate my saliva. it was just awful. i was sore for days afterwoods. i mentioned it to my surgeon yesterday when having a very small fill. He said it wasnt good at all and perhaps i should look at going vegetarian? i dont think i could handle just being vegetarian. so.. i have to look very carefully at how small the pieces of meat are BEFORE I SIT DOWN TO EAT. just like i would cut up my small childrens meat on their place... im going to have to do the same. for me the issues are still eating too quickly if running a bit later than four hours with a meal.. and being distracted. I have to have a good solution for both these if im going to be free of being stuck. Has anyone had vomiting for four hours without stopping? it was bad. i felt so ill. im wondering about some gastritis as well as i said. Anyone had gastritis? how did the pouch cope with it all?? -
a good idea. another idea is to put white rice in a sock. heated for a very short time in the microwave it retains heat well.

4 Days Post Op And 17 Pounds Gone
judych replied to newbie1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

o.k... well.. im post op about five months now. We're just coming out of the coldest winter for many years here.. That plus me losing bout 35 pounds in weight have made it harder for me to adjust. Ive been having more thick Soups... split pea, beef, etc. i have pure Protein every morning. egg and bacon. im finding now that by 11.. about four hours later, im hungry. this is where the problem starts. By 12 im having more than one mug of hot soup. At least two mugs or three over 1 1/2 hours. then about 4 im getting hungry again... so i will have something then. we eat our main meal of the day about 6pm. i have a small bread and butter place full then. My weight has been fluctuating .. i gain a couple of pounds and then lose it again. this has been going on now for the last two months. I also have cravings for sweet things... like some candy. i have a small amount of chocolate as well. So as you can see i have issues still. The main issue is.. every winter my appetite for hot soups increases. with me losing weight this year its gotten worse. Now that spring is coming along im able to think now more on salads. we dont get fresh salad produce here so much in the area where i live. But, as the weather gets warmer we grow our own salad veges... lettuce at least and tomatoes. So.. my issues are... too much hot soup in the middle of the say.. plus a craving for sweets which is a new one for me. At the moment our evening meal is hot veges and a meat dish. i have a very small amount of that and im satisfied. i have a fill coming up this wednesday. im hoping that it will help me to get through the day without getting so hungry. Im hoping for 1/2 cc. it makes a huge difference to me just having small amounts.( i have 3 1/2 cc now) i think also that i will have to go back onto Protein drinks. that will help alleviate the cravings for hot soup that ive been having. i sure hope so. I have to lose another 14 pounds. i will be completely satisfied with that and im sure my dr will be as well. i hope so.

i sometimes use a quarter teaspoon of low fat sour cream... just mix it into the salad after a little olive oil . thats really nice.

Length Of Hospital Stay
judych replied to farmgirl04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i couldnt have coped if i had to travel home the same day... but we live a fair distance from the hospital. plus i always have a problem with nausea after anaesthetics... i think overnight is way better as well. Like you say, nurses can give you around the clock care. i would always opt for overnight. -
i think that your weight loss so far has been awesome... hang in there. They will all fall off their chairs in amazement... and it will be soon. i didnt have a fill with surgery. i had first fill of 3cc's... second fill of 1cc... half that taken out again... waiting now for another fill, next week. Im hoping that it will only be a 1/2. Id rather take things very slow. Im halfway to my weight loss and not in an urgent hurry anyway. After a fill, 24 hours of liquids, then mushies and onto solids.... thats me.

im not sure how much im getting but i dont think i could eat more than i am right now. i have pure protein for Breakfast.. then mixed with carbs for lunch and tea. i had some bloods done a few days ago and will see the dr next week to talk about my Iron levels, etc etc. im sure you will get a good idea from the forum... there are a lot here who do measure the amount they eat.
