hi Deb... good to hear about your weight loss so far, thats great news. You must be really encouraged by that. It sounds like you are really busy .. probably a good thing, you are pre occupied and dont have to think about the transition with food so much. lol.im doing o.k. first fill was a breeze, on wednesday, ive got a tender port area now though, by the end of the day. Im feeling restriction but it well could be swelling still, its too soon to notice. Im still getting ''peckish'' though, before mealtimes. im having protein shakes with a banana in it. that helps a lot. my next fill is june 20th... a little ways to go yet. Ive lost a 1/4 of my body weight so far, in seven weeks. im losing just over a pound a week. That suits me .. im too old to cope with rapid weight loss. Im feeling so much better, all the time. more energy, its easier now to bend down and pick things up , get out of the car, etc etc. my feet and legs are still doing well.. so all up im really pleased with it. Im not starving myself either.. i made up some great homemade soup last night, enough to last for three days. its winter here and soup is on the menu. plus the fact i really like it. if i want more in it i just blend it in. Im having a fried egg of a morning and that goes down really well... much to my delight. that fills me more than anything first thing. So.. all in all, both of us are doing well so far. Its great to hear from you. hugs for you judy

Restriction In Morning, Not In Evening?
judych replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ive read where sometimes the band can loosen somewhat later in the day. Also, having a hot drink before hand, or having some alcohol helps to ease it as well. -
Beat The Band Syndrome...need Help
judych replied to weightandsee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my dr told me that the gastric sleeve surgery can be abused just the same, and once it is abused there is nothing that can be done about it. I would get in touch with a support group and a nutritionalist if i were you. Its such a shame that you went through all that preparation and surgery just to end up doing the same thing as before. How long were you planning the surgery before you had it done? was there evaluations and everything that goes with pre op?? im in australia and didnt go through all that. Werent you prepared for the reality of the surgery? i think you need to deal with that because that same mind set will get in the way even with a gastric sleeve.. with no chance of getting it fixed. -
lol... these times will come along a guess. i had lunch with my brother and sister in law yesterday. they know im dieting and under a nutritionalist but know nothing about the bad. i ordered a bowl of soup. what came out was tomato with small chunks of chicken , noodles, you name it i had it.In fact it was tomato stew. i couldnt eat it. i was one day out from a fill and even the slightest morsel sets me off. i had to leave the bowl. My brother and his wife did wonder what was going on with me. it was a huge bowl as well. I was disappointed that it was nowhere near like what i cook at home for myself. oh well. live and learn. lol.

Do Banders Ever Have A Glass Of Wine Or A Cocktail?
judych replied to Kathy Mather's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Im having a glass of red wine nearly every night and im still losing over a pound a week. i honestly dont want to lose any faster than that. im 66, and already over 7 weeks have lost a 1/4 of my body weight. Im quite happy with the way things are going and so is my specialist. Im still on liquids and soups... 2nd day out from my first fill. -
i had a fill on wednesday and there is swelling for sure. i had liquids yesterday and even that was a bit hard.. but hot liquid did help a bit. today im on thicker soup and even that, plus protein drink with banana, is hard going down. not backing up but just a tad sore? im staying on soups for another couple of days. i want everything to settle down properly before i go onto solids again.

Post Surgical Gas Won't Go Away!!
judych replied to tokiesgirl6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i use Dulcolax suppositories. i would like to start adding some metamucil, it sounds like i may be able to.... just not large amounts at once. i was concerned about it swelling in the pouch as it has husks in it and is a bulking agent. -
well i think that you needed to wait that time out before trying anything more solid. What i did... i mixed baked potatoes etc in with my mushies and while no one else would eat it, i made sure it was sloppy enough and ate it. I had the taste which was most important for me. YOu need to take it very slowly. Im six weeks out from surgery now and i still have a lot of Soups. i put lots of yummy things in it but its still a very staple part of my diet. I had a fill yesterday, 1st one, and today im on soups. im having clear beef brother every three hours... just a half cup. I think that you have pushed yourself too soon. My body would never have allowed me to do that. AS it was i had more than one experience with food getting into difficulties , and i learned from that. It is a really hard time that you go through and its not called ''band hell' for nothing... but, believe me, it will pass quickly enough. You need to give your body time to heal properly. Obviously its not ready for what you have had to eat .... so back off the solids and go back onto mushies . If its too bland try mixing some salsa, garlic powder etc into it. that may help your taste buds a bit. i hope you do well.

Post Surgical Gas Won't Go Away!!

i know that treatment is rather gross but it does the trick. Im glad that you have the suppositaries. Im sure you will find them o.k. once you get used to using them. i use them a lot. Especially since banding, as i dont want to upset my whole digestive system. You will find that the suppositaries will move the wind as well. Can i ask you... what is the name of the suppositaries that you have?? -
well put.

im sorry that he is being like this with you but im wondering if he is feeling quite insecure now. Men are like that a lot. it well could be that he is feeling that you are going to be losing weight and he is going to be left behind. Men have funny ways of looking at things sometimes.

...just a suggestion ... could you try laxative suppositaries?? i use them what i need something at the moment. that way it doesnt affect my whole digestive system, and its helped me. -
Definately too soon to have a meal. clear liquids for at least 24 hours afterwoods would have suited your band better im sure. Can you try going back onto clear liquids for 24hours and see what happens then?

hi everyone. well, i had my first fill yesterday... wednesday 9th. Everything went so fast and without pain. i think it took about four seconds for the dr to find the port, slap a small gauze dressing on it, it must have had some sort of anaesthetic in it, and before i knew it, i had three cc's in my band. Absolutely without discomfort at all for all those who have yet to have their first fill. As well as, im a 1/4 the way through my weight loss... HAHOOO !! Since the 22nd March, when i was banded, ive gone from BMI 33.8 to BMI 31.2. My EWL is now at 24.14%. ive been losing just over a pound a week, which suites me fine. Ive gone from 92 kilos to 85 kilos... (kilo = 2.2 pounds). I wasnt asked to drink anything in the drs rooms which i thought a bit odd.. I had a bottle of diet cordial in the car, and when we got back to the car i had two mouthfuls. It was a mistake, i took in too much at once, and for nearly two hours after woods i had problems. Not as bad as ive had before but it was very obvious that things had changed somewhat. lol. By tea time, i had a small cup of soup which went down well. It could have been because the soup was hot. It may have relaxed things for me. AT 4am i woke up feeling rather dry so i got up and made a decaf coffee. A small cup. that was o.k. this morning ive had some beef broth for brekky... and two cups of coffee and im feeling more relaxed in the pouch as time goes on. My dr said clear fluids for today only then start introducing again as i did post op. So, im making some pumpkin soup later on for tomorrow. Its winter time here and i love soup so its no biggie for me. No appetite at all. We will wait until next week to see how that pans out. Anyway, i thought i would give you an update. Either my dr. is the b est or im too old to feel much discomfort anymore... the fill was just painless and quick. lol. And, im down another kilo this morning. my slacks are very sloppy now. i dont want to buy for another two weeks though so i just have to put up with it. lol. All is well here. Oh... when i told my hubbie that i was a 1/4 through my weight loss he looked a bit frightened. rofl. not sure what that was all about. hahahaha...

3 Days Post Op Liquid Diet Is Not Enough! Suggestions
judych replied to sma102205's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
youve come to the right forum to get all you know. im still newly banded, about seven weeks now. this period you are going through is called "band hell'' and you really have to just bite the bullet. lol. Of paramount importance is your healing... thats no. one .. first priority. im afraid there is discomfort from hunger through the next week or couple of weeks for you. keep the Protein Drink up, drinks HEAPS of water... i have a savoury tooth, not a sweet tooth so what i did, with my home made soups, i put in a little salsa.. mild salsa. i also used garlic powder to help with the flavour. What i couldnt get in substance i tried to get in flavour so i made it intense flavour as much as i could cope with. this may not work for you... i dont know. im just sharing what got me through it all. Good luck to you.. -
thats what ive done... it worked o.k. for me.
