i had huge feet with the extra weight. they were very painful as well. it was fluid, the dr tried to change my b/p meds with a diuretic added and it made me ill. so, i had to put up with my feet, which were really gross as well as being painful. i had lapband surgery and within a week the feet were back to their normal size, and looking better than they had for nearly 20 years. the pain has nearly gone as well. i hope this helps you. i dont know how much swelling in feet is due to fluid with everyone else but it was fluid with me.

Okay Im Going There.... How Long Before
judych replied to 911chrystal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it varies with everyone. i had the same issues, and two months on ive still got the same issues. my gut hasnt responded all that kindly to the massive change in diet.. the amount i eat plus what im eating. Im still having to use suppositaries and take tablets. i dont like doing it but i cant see how i can avoid it. i know that drinking heaps of water helps a lot. especially with high protein in our diets, we need more liquid. apart from that i dont know what else to be honest. if you are getting concerned about the time lapse, i would talk with a pharmacist. he would help you im sure. -
what is it exactly??

What Does It Feel Like To Be Stuck....
judych replied to amandacoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i know how hard it is to get established with new eating habits. Im sure that you, like me, are getting there. WE cant expect a lifetime of eating habits to be completely conquered in such a short time... i know that its taking time with me. i guess im still in the early days of understanding the unique way my body is working now, as well as persevering with eating smaller bites and being a lot slower. one of the reasons i have issues with food getting stuck is that im eating too quickly. Apart from that, when i eat fish i just cant seem to process it through the pouch... so its really painful and not nice at all. All of this in just two months? lol. a steep learning curve for me... and im sure for you as well. IM due for my second fill on the 20th june. this is going to be interesting for me. I have much the same issues as you. But, having said all this, we will get there eventually. good luck. -
What Does It Feel Like To Be Stuck....
judych replied to amandacoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i dont have to wait 30 minutes to know im stuck. but, probably about ten minutes . it feels like the food is churning around, just like a washing machine, and it tends to come back up the esophagus. thats when i gulp, trying to get it to settle. i take in air when i do this and it makes things worse. it feels painful, and i can feel every spasm of the pouch as it tries to empty. ive had quite a few episodes of PBs. two of vomiting. not nice.(it helps when i can burp )i know when ive had enough top eat because the pain in my shoulder and neck .. left hand side, comes on. Im still battling with eating too much on my spoon, eating too quickly sometimes and i suspect i need to eat even less than now. at the moment im having about a cup full of food per meal. -

thanks for this. im two months out and having big issues still. -
its still possibly too soon. speaking from experience i had to wait two weeks before i was able to eat any thing much at all. i had a lot of trouble, especially as my dr told me to just have 48 hours of liquids and then back to normal eating.(Im not saying thats normal, as i know it isnt ) i know now that i cant do that... i dont think i ever will be able to. we are all different... all react so differently with the time schedules and what we can and cant eat. Its fascinating to read here just how diverse we all are.

i had/have problems eating fish as well , even before i had any fill... i think some people find they cant eat it .

3 Steps Backwards, Now To Jump Forward!
judych replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i agree with every post here. its hard when those days come along, for whatever reason, to be strong. Ive had four stressed days where ive been away, had a lot of responsibility, had to drive in the city which i hate.. was in a strange bed overnight. then after two days of this had to come home to full on cooking and cleaning for the men in our family. i was exhausted to the point where i was feeling unwell. every time this happens to me i get restriction... and whats worse is the fact that im tired means i crave fatty foods and more carbs. so ive had two bad days of badly inflamed esophagus. its just starting to come right tonight. i vomited this morning... and that was just after a little yoghurt. i feel for all of you who have times when things dont go right. But, in the end, the band is more than worth it, and the weight loss is a marvellous thing to have. -
how soon after your fill is this?? maybe its a bit too soon to be eating solids again?? do you do a day or two on liquids after fills??.

Just Wanna Kick Myself In The Arse!!
judych replied to angelblessed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
every comment here is really good advice. Your family are irrisponsible for treating you like this... but it shouldnt interfere with you and your good progress. im wondering if you are going through some post op depression ? some of us here have had really down times immediately post op. plus the fact your body went through a lot of trauma, and is still healing from that, as well as a liquid diet. If you are going through some mild depression... know that its very temporary, and that each day that goes by is going to see your body healing . You have the most wonderful opportunity now to achieve your dreams. your dream of being slim and healthy. i dont know if you have had a weight issue all your life, it doesnt matter... just being overweight now and knowing that the weight is going to start coming off your body and transforming you is an exciting thing to have going on. Of course you dont feel the same as you did before the surgery. like i said, you are post op. after nearly every op Ive had i suffered with a post op depression. it wasnt bad enough for me to take meds... it just happened. i got over it seen enough. Im sure that what you are coping with now has a lot to do with depression... temporary depression. I would do what the other women have advised you to do. no one.. if someone offers you food that you cant eat... and they wont listen to you when you refuse.. take it, mutilate it and put it in the rubbish. that will speak loudly enough for you. Have some liquid treats in the fridge.. im sure there are nice drinks that you can have. Go for more walks. Walking will help you to overcome any depression you may have. its the best thing out for combating depression. Start thinking more about the good side of having the surgery, not about the food that you were a slave to... Good luck with it all... you know that we are all here for you. get online when you need supportas well. im praying for you. -
im really impressed with what you have shared with us here. could you give us/me recipes please?? for example,, the eggs with spinach?? in fact, most of what youve put here.. is that too much to ask?? we grow spinach, i would love to know what you do with spinach and eggs... and the other dishes you mention as well.. is it too much to ask of you?? i would appreciate it so much if you could. thanks. judy

Has The Band Actually Worked For You?
judych replied to OldMomOf3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well... here is my story... firstly.. ive been banded since 22rd march 2012. just prior to banding i was 15 stone... thats 15 x 14 pounds... i was crippled with painful feet, so much swelling in my legs, arthritis in every joint i could hardly do my days work. i have two artificial knee joints. it was the arthritis that prompted the drs to do the procedure on me. im 66. my health outlook was not good. im also hypertensive. so i had surgery on the 23rd. within a week i had lost about 12 pounds. the swelling in my feet had completely disappeared, swelling in my legs had gone.. the pain in my feet had gone plus in other joints as well. i had problems with gas, which lasted quite a while afterwoods but i tell you?? being able to move around, especially to walk, without being frightened of having a fall . the gas eventually went, but it was better for me to cope with the pain of gas than the very real fear of falling or doing myself an injury. Now im 2 months out from surgery. im eating solids now, very carefully and slowly. i had some issues with my first fill, three weeks ago. now im settled really well. my weight loss has slowed down a bit. idont mind. if you could see me now?? compared to before the surgery?? ive lost nearly 30 pounds and thats made such a difference to me. my original goal was to lose 73 pounds. im well on the way. the weight loss has slowed down quite a bit but i done mind at all. i can see by my clothes that its coming off well. it if takes me another nine months i will be happy . there is no way i could ever have coped with doing this on my own. i have lots of days where ,even if i was motivated some of the time to diet, i wouldnt be able to diet on my own without help. i have slight depression at times. when im like this its really hard to be able to be disciplined at all. Its times like this where my band keeps me in line. Im still having a glass of wine when i want to have one. sometimes i might have a small helping of cooked chips if i really need to. To me, thats fine. im still seeing a pound a week off my weight, even with the extra things i like to have. Mind you... im not saying its all right to have chips... or with some people having wine of a night isnt a good idea either. but its o.k. for me right now, as im still losing the weight i want to. Thats my story. both my husband and myself are so pleased with the results, and believe me, every single eating habit i had in the past has had to be reviewed, and pretty drastically. lol. Thats o.k. i have a faithful companion sitting there who is always on guard to let me know when im off base. lol. I appreciate it so much. i feel really positive and glad right now that i had it done. i hope everyone else's story is the same. -
buy yourself a blender that you dont hold onto.. you will get your money well and truly back i can promise you. Apart from the steamer which you have, i cant think of anythign else that you need.

Looking For A Decent Coffee Creamer Alternative?
judych replied to Jellyfish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
really the only way to go is to dig your heels in and take the bull by the horns and start having it black, whether you like it or not. ive been there and done that. i actually started off without milk, but some sugar. then i cut out the sugar and had some sweetener in it which i gradually cut down over two weeks. now i have it black, ive developed a real taste for it.. in fact, its the true flavour of coffee ,which i now love. ive been having black coffee for nearly 20 years now. In fact, apart from about one cuppachino a month i dont have milk at all. if i did start again, it would make me feel ill. So... if you really do benefit from coffee, you need to dig your heels in and go through the tansition period. You can do it. Im having three caffeinated coffees a day... i enjoy every single one of them. The only difference now is i have equal to a cup and not a mug. -
