Hernia Repair? Feeling Good
judych replied to Lovemythreems's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well... for the last couple of years i had ''indigestion'' nearly all the time. I would suffer with esophageal reflux a lot and if it were bad enough i would vomit. Mind you, i always loved to eat spicy foods and did wonder if that was contributing.i always had pain in my area where the pouch is now... so it would have been at the bottom of my esophagus, around the top of my stomach. if not a pain then it would 'ache' is the best way to put it. when i got stressed it felt so bad. it was when i was online here at the forum that i realised that perhaps i did have a hiatus hernia. this was before i was banded. i was reading how others were experiencing problems and many of them were like mine. So.. when i had my first visit with the dr about banding i mentioned that i thought i had a hernia, and sure enough i did have. Now i have none of the symptoms at all... its a wonderful feeling. the only discomfort i get is if i dont eat properly. lol. -
it could have been some sort of freeze spray that my dr used, but on a gause dressing. i know that i never felt it and it was instant. i just had to raise my head off the bed so my tummy was strained and the port was there to see.

Hernia Repair? Feeling Good
judych replied to Lovemythreems's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is... and will continue im sure. -
thats strange. i wonder why that is?/.....

i certainly didnt need an ice pack. i remember, the dr asked me to raise my head off the bed. He put a swab on my port, whipped it off again and within 3 seconds i had a painless fill. it was that quick. no ice pacs.. a little bit of discomfort at night but nothing much at all....its a breeze.

Question About How Fast R Slow U Eat
judych replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i agree. i think its trial and error most of the time. i find that i can have an egg with a small half section of toasted wholemeal bread, if i take very small bites and chew well. other than that, i cant eat bread really. i havent discussed this with my dr. i know know what his opinion is on it all. i must say that i feel '' full'' after eating that half slice though. that with an egg keeps me goign all morning. -
hahaha... this is so true.. and what a great comparison, that im sure everyone can identify with.....hahhaha....

Hang in there. your body has gone through trauma and it takes a few weeks to start recovering. i was the same, but by the end of the second week i was '' firing on all fours'' . lol. just listen to your body ... rest up, have your liquids as much as you can and time will take care of the rest. Believe me, you are through the worst of it.

no it doesnt.

Hernia Repair? Feeling Good
judych replied to Lovemythreems's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good on you Tina.. you have the right attitude towards your weight loss. Im trying not to be a slave to my scales as well. You are so right... it took many years to put the weight on, it wont disappear overnight . So no one mentioned to you about a hernia repair?? im sure that was an oversight... It seems that most people on here have had a repair. i knew that i needed one, even before i had the lapband op. i was getting bad with it. Im so much better now im fixed. You will find that you feel better im sure. Good luck with your weight loss... and you do have the right attitude. -
o.k... here is what i did to move my weight. at times Ive had no loss, so i vary the calorific intake every day. some days i may have about 200 more ..so thats about 1200.. other days i will have about 900.. im not counting but thats a general thing. I wasnt losing for a few weeks, now im losing quickly again. I think so long as you are mindful of the food you eat, no junk, that you could perhaps vary the amount of calories you are taking in. i wouldnt lose any weight if i were just having 1000 a day ... so im either side of it all the time.. some days more some days less. As far as the fill goes... its a breeze... trust me. It took about 3 seconds for my first fill and i honestly never felt a single thing. Dont worry about it. Good luck.

this is interesting. i did wonder how long it would take for the pouch to empty into the big stomach. it makes a lot of sense. -
Getting Frustrated-Weight Not Coming Off Like I Thought It Would
judych replied to kariew28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to get too many expectations so soon. The main thing is to relearn all the right eating habits, and the type of foods. im sure your weight will come off soon enough. i try not to put too many expectations on my weight loss, so soon after being banded. ive been banded now 2 1/2 months. i have lost nearly 30 lbs. the main priority for me though is relearning how to eat with the band. i know my weight will come off soon enough. -
Question About How Fast R Slow U Eat
judych replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if you eat slower you give the food the time it needs to go down the esophagus into the pouch before swallowing more. Plus the fact that the slower you eat the more you chew. the pouch needs time to accomodate the food you are eating, its not like the old stomach was. Believe me, you will know when the pouch is full. lol. If you insist on eating quickly you will get numerous problems, one of them that you will get ''stuck'' which is not a pleasant experience. Eating quickly is one of the bad habits that we need to drop, and this is what having the band is all about. re educating how we eat. -
well.. i think the reason for not using straws is that we gulp wind as well and thats not good. The other thing.. bread. Ive been banded now for just over 2 months. Until the last three days Ive not had anything in the way of bread.. but on my first try yesterday i nearly got stuck. I had to walk away from it.(it was wholemeal bread). I had toasted it. This morning i tried another brand of bread, toasted ... it was wholemeal. i ate very small portions and chewed for ages. Even doing that the band was protesting and it still feels like a huge lump over an hour later. So, as far as im concerned, no bread. Im not sure why its such a hard food to eat. i know that i wont be bothering with it anymore.

Newly Banded. Day 3 Of Post Op Diet
judych replied to AmieRae55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you went back to work very early... what sort of job do you do? No... you wouldnt damage anything by sucking some peanut butter, im sure of that. Actually i dont think that there should be a limit on what you drink. Usually drs tell you to drink more than you can handle. if you arent having as much as you feel you need, have more fluids. more clear soups, tea, decaf coffee.... are you having Protein drinks yet? -
Swollen And Bloated Stomach/breathing
judych replied to BreBre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you must be feeling.. but it is early days and you have just had major surgery. Before you know it your body will be hurting a lot less... the swelling will be going down again, and you will be feeling really happy about hte whole thing. i dont think there are many people here who didnt go through hard times after surgery, one way or another. The mental issues as well as the emotional ones as well. I had a really swollen section where my pouch is... its still a bit swollen after two months but goign down well. The pain will leave... if you have meds be diligent in taking them. its only temporary and it will help you adjust to the whole post op thing. WE will ask you how you feel in three months time... it will be quite a different story. Hang in there... one day at a time. I was banded on the 23rd march. -
