    The Long Wait....

Well, I went to my first bariatric seminar on Thursday to get the ball rolling. I had been told that I would have to see a registered dietitian for 3 months for my insurance to cover the lap band. I already had my first appoint set up for Friday afternoon! I am so motivated to get this done! Well, after my dietitian appointment, I had a couple of questions about my insurance, so I called them. Found out I have to do SIX months before they will cover it. I was hoping to get all of the before surgery stuff done and have it by late Summer. Now it is looking more like end of Sept or Oct. UGH! But on a good note, I started my low carb diet yesterday and so far, it is going well. My office is starting a "biggest loser" contest on Monday, so I will have that motivation as well. I am just so ready to start getting this weight off and feeling better!

    Lap Band Vs Gastric Bypass

Thanks for all of your responses! My decision was based on all of the same reasons you mentioned (well, minus wanting to have kids...been there 4 times and done! ) I am nervous enough about having the surgery. Even though I had two knee surgeries, I made them only give me a spinal because I didn't want to be put under anesthesia. I like the fact that the lap band is less invasive and can be removed if there were major problems. I am just ready to get this whole thing started so I can see the pounds start dropping!
  5. How did you decide which way to go? What was your deciding factor?

Top Things That Just Tick Me Off And Just Rambling!

I noticed the post that was promoting the protein drinks too. I can't say it ticked me off like it did you....but I did think it was kind of a weird thing to do here.
  7. This is something I am concerned about. I haven't been banded yet, but I worry that I will be one of those who only loses 25 pounds or so. I need to lose about 110. I have the discipline to do this, but I had the discipline to do everything else I have tried, and nothing really worked. I am trying to stay positive. I am just ready to get it going!!
  8. Hello, all. I am new here and I am just beginning my journey. My first consultation appointment is March 15. I already know my insurance requires three months with a registered dietician, so I have my doctor working on getting me set up with one. I am 43 years old and I have been fighting my weight since I was a teen. Last year, I had to have bilateral knee surgeries done because my kneecaps weren't in the right place and I had a lot of pain when exercising. This was supposed to HELP my weightloss journey, only it didn't work. Now I can't walk for more that 6 blocks or so without pain. I can't do stairs. I am miserable. I have put on 35 more pounds since the surgeries and the doctors say if I lose weight, it would help. HELLO?! I KNOW this! I also was just diagnosed with high blood pressure. I found out that my insurance will cover bariatric surgery if you have certain qualifiers, and my doctor believes that I fit them all. I am nervous, excited and most of all, impatient! I want this done tomorrow! I am not looking to be skinny. I just want to be able to function throughout my day and not be in pain. I have been reading a lot of your posts on here and they have answered a lot of my questions. I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Hopefully I will be able to post some successes soon!!
