From the album: Before and WAY Before surgery

Hi Everybody. I hope everybody is doing great or trying with their surgeries. I haven't posted or kept up for a while. I had my surgery on th 14th of sept and I had complications so they redid it on th 18th and then 2 weeks later went back in to remove half my lung. Thats a whole different story. But It wasn't cancer! woohoo!! So needless to say I was feeling like crap. I had no energy at all!!!. Yeah, I was taking my vitamins and getting water but I think I wasn't getting enough food/nutrients. And it hurt so bad to lay on my right side because of the incisions from my lung surgery and it hurt to lay on my left side because of adominal pains. But just the other day it seemed like somebody flipped a switch and said, Ok you're better! Sounds strange but I have no more pains, I now have energy and I'm eating more food. It's a strange journey we are all on. Some of us are extremely different but then again some of us are so much alike in so many ways. But I just want to thank you all for everything. It helps me to know that I'm not alone on this journey. Happy Healing! Mark (riverbuff2)

Well, Hello everybody. It's been so long since I posted and since my surgery on the 14th. After surgery I didn't feel like doing anything and was regretting doing the surgery in the first place but I'm over that and ready to begin my journey. Let's just say my surgery didn't go so well. After the surgery I was having extreme pain so they took a ct scan and had to go back in and do the surgery over because I had a blockage. Definitely not something my surgeon did or anything. I love her to death, it's just something that happens. So my hospital stay went from 2 days to a week and then they found nodules on my lungs that have doubled in size in the last couple months. Not good at all, possible cancer but if it wasn't for the ct scan they would have never found it. But as for the weight loss journey, I'm ready!!! I'm on a full liquid diet now and so far so good. Good Luck everybody who has had and will have the surgery.

Thank you Jessica and Maria. Yes tomorrow is my big day. I can not wait and not one bit nervous. I can't wait to get this party started My current weight is 399. I lost 12 lbs with the liquid diet. But one thing that kinda upsets me is that the surgeon says my starting weight is 399. Wait what happen to the 91lbs I lost on my own. She said it doesn't count. Well, to me it does. So I will contiue to use 490 as my starting weight.

Welcome Sassy! This is a great group of ladies, and couple of us guys, that are here for you with any questions, support and share our experiences. But it sounds like you've been through more than any of us. Good luck on your sugery on the 17th, just couple days after mine. Good Luck Leilani, Angela and MissyJack on your surgery today! I pray for a great outcome and speedy recovery.

I haven't been nervous yet until today. My surgeons assisstant called at 3:45 and told me that she never received the cleance from my PCP and she needs it today. I went into panic mode. I called my PCP to see whats wrong. She won't clear me until she gets the cardiologist to clear me. Well I was panicing. Everybody closes at 5 and they need this today. So after a dozen phone calls back and forth and me damn near crying, screaming and throwing a hissy fit. I get a call at 4:50 saying they got the clearence and I'm good to go! I don't understand why they needed it TODAY. Yeah I have an appoinment w/ my surgeon at 7:30 am tomorrow but my surgery isn't until friday. But anyway......It's good now!

One thing I never thought of: When you buy Chicken broth for your liquid diet, make sure you get the low sodium chicken broth. I bought couple cases from Sams and never looked at the label. After 7 days, sure I lost weight but my ankles are more swollen than they ever been. The sodium in the broth is about 1000mg.

Glad to hear everything went ok and your doing better. We're all here for you. Hoping for a speeding recovery!

Oh the waiting game is agony...LOL Been on the liquid diet since the 1st and today I had one final blood work and the clearence from the cardiologist and everything is still a GO but just waiting 'til next friday is horrible. I guess I made it this long, another week will go by quicky. And surprisingly I don't crave food at all. The protien shakes really help! Prayers and well wishes for all who has had the surgery. I love reading everybody's posts.

The Bucket List / Goals is a great idea. A few of mine are : My sister is getting married in august '13 and I don't want to be the center of attention or draw attention away from her. Buy a SMART CAR, if I can fit in one. I like things extreme, I have a jacked up ford excursion( very large) and the opposite of that would be something tiny. And I fell in love with Smart Cars when I was in the UK. I have to have one! To fly again without paying extra or being so uncomfortable. To do the activities that I used to do and keep up with my friends. And mostly, be able to go anywhere without people gasping or making rude comments about my size.

Starting weight 490lbs; current weight 412; goal weight for surgery 400lbs; ultimate goal weight 225lbs! Been on the liquid diet for 3 days. First day I had a severe headache and very shaky. I had to eat something small (broiled salmon). Second day, same thing but it was Labor Day and we had a ton over people over with all kinds of foods. Yeah, I was bad had 1 pc of chicken and a small spoonful of mac salad. Day 3 much better! Only shakes and broth and water! It's getting easier, Sugery is the 14th and like all of you, I can't wait and a bit nervous. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week, my prayers will be with you all.

I'm getting mine done at Magee also but with Dr. McCloskey. I also have Umpc Insurance and I called before I even did anything and they told me that they covered it but that didn't mean "I" was appoved. So I went through all the steps and after, ONLY AFTER, I did all my classes and tests that they submitted all my records and 12 days later I got the call from the Dr's office telling me I was approved and then Shara (DR McCloskey's asst.) scheduled my surgery for september 14th.
-
Just got the call yesterday! I'M APPROVED! Everything has been checked and rechecked and the only thing left to do is my pre-op clearence from my PCP (which is tomorrow) and then the waiting game until Sept 14th. So excited!!!

Today's the big day for you! Good Luck Anniesmom12!

I Am 3 1/2 Weeks Away! I Am Eating Everything
Riverbuff2 replied to Nita1019's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nita1019, I'm so glad you posted this! My surgery should be in late august sometime and yet I'm not eating everything but I am definitely slacking and my will power to walk and exercise flew out the window. I was wondering if anybody experienced this "pre-op slacking" then I saw your post. Glad to hear it's normal but I hope I don't gain weight before my sugery. -

From the album: Before and WAY Before surgery
This picture is about 16 years ago when I was at 210 lbs. This is my motivational picture. I'll never be 210 again but hopefully 230...and healthy! My surgery should be in late august 2012. -
