New Years Eve this year I was rushed to the hospital because I could not move. They discovered I had 5 herniated discs in my back and bone spurs pinching my nerves. At that time I weighed in at an astonishing 490lbs and was bed ridden. I had couple spinal nerve blocks and we discussed surgery but my family doctor really didn't want that at all. She said if I would just lose some weight It would relieve so much pressure off my back. Even though I thought about this for years, that day I decided and told her "Let's do the Gastric Bypass!" She was thrilled. So when I was able to walk a little, I made an appointment with Dr. Carol McCloskey at UPMC Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh and started my journey. They gave me a pedometer and told me to walk 2,000 steps a day. What?!? The first couple weeks, I was lucky to do 200 steps. I'm now up to 10,000 steps a day. But watching what I eat (portion size and the right food) and walking. So far I have lost 64 pounds and that is before surgery. My WLS should be schedule for around the end of august and I can't wait. Two things I am really looking forward to is my sisters wedding in August 2013 (by then I should be around 260lbs) and THEN If I can fit into one of those Smart Cars, I'm buying one!!! :D
UPDATE: Surgery scheduled for September 14th!!!

12/7/12 So surgery was Sept 14th. I had lost 91 pounds before the surgery and 77lbs since the surgery so far. I have no regrets and I would do it again in a heartbeat. But I wished somebody would of warned me about what to expect right after surgery. I'm talking about pain, can't eat anything lack of energy and so on. It was hell for the first couple weeks back looking back, that was distant memory. After losing 168lbs so far my life has change drastically. I have so much more energy and just want to go go go!!! Go to the gym, go do things I couldn't do before, like skydiving! Loving life right now. It feels like a got a new lease on life. So if your thinking about having the sugery.....DO IT!!!!!!! I still have another 100lbs to go, wish me luck! :D
