Lap band fills mexican surgery (DFW Area)
DWILSON replied to mdia717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Friend And I Both Had Surgery In Monterrey Mexico In Feb. We Were Using Dr. Maese In Dallas For Our Fills. Last Friday My Friend Went To A New Dr. In Gilmer, Texas Because She Had Not Noticed Any Restriction Since Her Last Fill To 3.0 In A 9.75 Band. After The Dr. In Gilmer X-rayed Her She Said That Her Port Had Flipped And There Was No Way Possible That Dr. Maese Could Have Given Her A Fill And That The Fill That She Had Had Previously Was No Longer In Her Band. She Had Zero Restriction. Needless To Say She Is Very Upset With Dr. Maese In Dallas. She Contacted His Office And They Refused To Refund Her Money For The Fill. -

HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!!!!! I GOT MY SECOND FILL YESTERDAY. I HAVE A 4CC BAND AND I WENT FROM 1.7CC TO 3.1CC. I CAN'T EVEN SWALLOW Water TODAY. THERE IS SO MUCH PAIN:cry . I AM SO AFRAID I NEED TO HAVE SOME Fluid REMOVED BUT I LIVED 100 MILES FROM THE DR. I CALLED THE DR. TODAY AND THEY SAID TO GIVE IT A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT WITH THE WEEKEND COMING I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WILL THIS GET ANY BETTER IN A COUPLE OF DAYS???? I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DRINK AROUND 5 OZ. OF WATER ALL DAY TODAY ( AND I AM REALLY REALLY TRYING). DWILSON -
OH MY GOSH!!! OUR EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT. THE DR. IS MIGUEL ZAPATA AT WWW.READY4ACHANGE.COM. LIKE I SAID BEFORE 3 OF US WENT DOWN FOR THE SURGERY. I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT GOING TO MEXICO, BUT 3 OTHER PEOPLE IN HAWKINS HAD BEEN TO THIS DR. AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THE DR. AND THE HOSPITAL. THEY WERE SO RIGHT! THE DR. WE USED WAS WONDERFUL AS WELL AS THE HOSPITAL AND STAFF. WE FLEW DOWN TO MONTERREY THURSDAY EVENING AND WERE PICKED UP AT THE AIRPORT BY DR. ZAPATA'S DRIVER. WE WERE CARRIED TO THE SHERATON IN MONTERREY WHERE WE SPENT THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE DRIVER WAS AT THE HOTEL TO PICK US UP AT 6:30 AM. WE ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL AROUND 6:45 AND WERE CHECKED INTO THE HOSPITAL BY 7:00 AM. WE WERE TAKEN TO THE PRE-OP ROOM BY 7:15. LESS THAN THIRTY MINUTES LATER WE WERE TAKEN TO SURGERY. ALL THREE OF US WERE OUT OF RECOVERY AND INTO OUR ROOMS BY 11:00 AM. WE SPENT THAT NIGHT (FRIDAY NIGHT) IN THE HOSPITAL AND WE WERE RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL THE NEXT MORNING (SAT. MORNING). OUR DRIVER PICKED US UP AT THE HOSPITAL AROUND AT 10:00 AM AND TOOK US BACK TO THE SHERATON HOTEL WHERE WE STAYED THE REST OF SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. THE DRIVER RETURNED AND PICKED US UP AT THE HOTEL ON SUNDAY MORNING AT 6:30 AM AND TOOK US BACK TO THE AIRPORT FOR OUR RETURN TRIP. WE WERE BACK IN TYLER TEXAS BY 1:00 PM. RECOVERY HAS BEEN VERY EASY. I REQUIRED NO PAIN MEDICATIONS AT ALL. AND I RETURNED TO WORK THE NEXT DAY ( MONDAY MORNING 8:00 AM). I COULD NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE DR. AND THE HOSPITAL. THE DR. IS SO CARING AND THE HOSPITAL IS THE CLEANEST I HAVE SEEN. THERE IS A LITTLE LANGUAGE ISSUE BUT YOU ARE GIVEN A "CHEAT SHEET" WHEN YOU ENTER THE HOSPITAL THAT HELPS ALOT WHEN TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE HOSPITAL STAFF. ALSO THE SHERATON HOTEL IS CONNECTED BY A GLASS WALKWAY TO THE MALL THEREFORE YOU CAN GO SHOPPING THE DAY AFTER SURGERY. DR. ZAPATA'S FEE WAS $6990.00 THIS FEE INCLUDED THE SURGERY, 1 NIGHT IN THE HOSPITAL 2 NIGHTS IN THE SHERATON HOTEL, A DRIVER, ALL TRANSFERS, A PATIENT ADVOCATE AT THE HOTEL, AND FREE FILLS FOR A YEAR. AFTER ALOT OF RESEARCH AND WORRY I AM SO GLAD I WENT AHEAD AND WENT TO MEXICO. I BELIEVE HAD I CHOSEN TO HAVE SURGERY IN THE STATES I WOULD STILL BE WAITING AND I KNOW IN THE END I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER GO THROUGH WITH IT. I HAVE LOST 28 LBS. IN 7 WEEKS. I AM GOING TO DALLAS NEXT WED. FOR MY SECOND FILL. I USE DR. MEASE IN DALLAS TEXAS. FOR MY FILLS. HIS FEE IS $200.00 WHICH COVERS THE FILL WITH FLOROSCOPY.

Do You Mean The Dr. In Monterrey Mexico Or The Dr. In Dallas? Dwilson

Hello All, I Am From Hawkins, Texas. Not Far From Mt Pleasant. I Was Banded On Feb. 23, 2007 In Monterrey Mexico. Insurance Would Not Cover The Surgery In The States So I Had To Go Out Of The Country Due To Cost. I Had A Great Dr. And Hospital So All Is Well. I Have Been Using A Dr. In The Dallas Area For My Fills. There Are 7 Other Bandsters That I Am Aware Of In The Hawkins Area. I Think We Would All Be Surprised At How Many There Are Of Us If We Could All Merge On One Thread. I Was Luck Enough To Have 2 Really Good Friends Who Had The Surgury On The Same Day, Using The Same Dr. And Hospital As I Did. We Are Traveling This Journey Together. We Go For Our Fills Together Also. Second Fill Is Wednesday April 24, 2007. My First Fill Was 1.7 Cc. I Would Love To Here About Other's Experiences With 2nd Fills. There Are No Organized Meeting In Our Area So I Am Interested In The One In Mt. Pleasant. Could Someone Please Email Me Some Info. Dwilson

I Used Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico. Cost Was $6,990.00 Total. That Included Surgery, 1 Night In Hospital And 2 Nights At The Sheraton Hotel. Also That Includes X-rays, Pre-op Testing And Transportation While In Mexico. Being From A Small Town In East Texas I Was So Scared To Travel To Mexico And Of Course I Heard The Usual Negative Comments About Surgery In Mexico. I Had My Surgery On Feb 23, 2007. It Was Absolutely The Best Thing I Have Ever Done. I Would Highly Recommend Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico. I Went For My First Fill In Dallas On Wednesday I Had Lost 24 Lbs. On Friday 2 Days Later I Am Down 26 Lbs. :)

Are You From Justin Texas. I Had Glb Surgery On Feb. 23, 2007 In Monterrey Mexico. My Family Flipped When I Mentioned Mexico Also. They Slowly Came Around Though. Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Is Wonderful And The Hospital There Is Awsome. Everythng About The Trip Was Great. Please Dont Let Anyone Stand In The Way Of Your Weight Loss. I Was Self-pay And I Just Could Not Pay The $15,000.00 That The Surgery Cost In Dallas. I Paid $6,990.00 And That Included The Surgery, 2 Nights At The Sheraton Hotel And One Night In The Hospital(absolutely Beautiful). I Can't Say That I Did Not Worry Alot Before The Surgery About Being In Mexico. But A Month After Surgery And 22 Lbs Lighter I Would Highly Recommend Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico. Dwilson

I Had Surgery On Friday Morning, Flew Back From Mexico On Sunday Morning And Was Back At Work Monday Morning At 8:00 Am. No One In My Office Knew I Had Been To Mexico For Surgery. I Am Now 1 Month Post Op And I Have Lost 21 Lbs. Still No One In My Office Knows About The Surgery. I Had Absolutely No Pain From The Surgery Itself...none. However I Did Come Down With The Virus The Day After Surgery And Had To Fly Home From Mexico With My Head In A Bag (if You Know What I Mean). I Cant Wait For My First Fill Next Week (april 4). I Had 2 Friends That Flew To Mexico And Had Surgery The Same Day As Myself. Both Are Doing Greattttttt. It Is So Nice To Have 2 Friends To Go Through This With. Debbie

DEDEE, I had Lap Band surgery on Feb. 23, 2007 in Monterrey Mexico the surgeon there is Dr. Zapata. I had some worries about going to Mexico. After a month I can tell you this has been a great experience. As of today I have lost 20 lbs. I go for my first fill next Tuesday. Dr. Zapata and the hospital in Mexico were top notch. Dr. Z was great and the hospital was the cleanest I have seen. I was told that this was the hospital that President Bush chose to go to if he needed one while in Mexico. Well I guess if it is good enough for the Pres. it is plenty good enough for me. I paid $6,990.00. That included a driver and car from the airport to the hotel and to the hospital, and back to the airport. 2 nights at the Sheraton Hotel and one night in the hospital and of course the surgery. Please,Please consider Dr. Zapata in Monterrey Mexico I don't think you will regret it. DWILSON

Thinking about costs of surgery
DWILSON replied to Crazy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I Had Lap Band Surgery In Monterrey Mexico On Feb. 23, 2007. The Hospital Was Excellent And The Hospital Staff Was Great. The Hospital Is A Private Hospital. I Can't Say Enough Good Things About Dr. Zapata. He Is So Caring. The Cost For The Surgery, Tranfers To And From The Airport, And 1 Night Stay In The Sheriton Hotel Before Surgery And 1 Night Stay After Surgery Was $6,990.00. It Took Me A While To Decide To Go To Mexico But When I Thought About The Cost I Just Could Not Turn It Down. I Have Insurance But It Would Not Cover Weight Loss Surgery. I Live In A Small Town Of About 1200 People. Six Of Us Have Been To Monterrey And I Am Sure There Will Be More!!!!! If You Think About It Dr.s In Mexico Were Doing This Surgery A Long Time Before It Was Legal To Perform It In The U.s.a. Dwilson -
HELLO ALL, I was banded in Monterrey Mexico on Friday Feb. 23. What an experience.... I flew down from Texas with 2 friends who were scheduled to have the surgery the same day. We arrived late in the evening on Thursday. Our driver picked us all up at the airport and took us to the Sheriton in Monterrey and said he would be back at the hotel to pick us up at 6:45 am the next morning to take us to the hospital. We checked in to a wonderful hotel and got ready for bed. We awoke early Friday to go to the hospital where we checked in around 7:30 am. Within 10 minutes we were called back one by one to the preop room. Just that quick we were on our journey. After surgery we were taken to our rooms to recovery. The day is still a blurrrrr.. but all went well. I slept through the night without any pain to speak of. On Saturday morning I woke up feeling great. I took a shower got dress and even walked down a flight of stairs to sit with my daughters while they at breakfast. After breakfast I went back to my hospital room. When I arrived back at my room is when all HECK broke loose. I suddenly felt like I was developing a fever. I also developed a really bad case of the D word along with this I began to vomit uncontrolably. Around this time is when we were scheduled to be picked up by our driver to be take back to the hotel to spend the rest of the day and that night. I was so afraid to tell the Dr. for fear he might keep me in the hospital that I remained quite and preceded to hotel. I seemed to get worse as the day got longer. by night fall I was so sick I didn't think I would make it through the night. I didn't sleep at all Saturday night. All I could think was... If I was gonna die I sure wanted to be in the good old U.S.A. when I did. Well I did obviously made it through the night and I left for the airport Sunday morning at 6:00 am. I was still so sick going at both ends but I managed to board the plane at 8:20 am, thanks to my daughters who tended to all the paperwork at the airport while I waited in a wheel chair in the corner. I flew back to Houston with a bag in my hand all the way, I was so glad to hear the pilot announce "Prepare to Land". I just kept telling myself just one more flight and I would be home. I found the neareast restroom and vomited again. We boarded our connecting flight in Houston bound for Tyler Texas around 11:00 am. Just my luck I looked up and saw a cousin I had not seen in probably 4 or 5 years. I looked like death warmed over. Once myself and my 2 friend ( oh yea....the came through the whole ordeal perfectly!!!!) boarded the flight and settled in to our seats I breathed a sigh of releif. We landed in Tyer at 12:30 pm. Oh My Gosh I was so thankful to be home. I ran to the nearest restroom to vomit and to.. you know the d word and then we were in the car headed home. Once I arrived home I went straight to bed. I slept from 3:00 pm Sun. until 7:00 am Mon. When I woke up on Monday I felt tons better and all my symptom had vanished. It is now Tuesday and I am still feeling fine. I believe that the virus that has consumed our small community found me in Monterrey on Saturday the day after my surgery. I know that I handled alot of this badly but you just never know how you will react when you are in a foreign country and you get sick. I guess I should have alerted the Dr. in Monterrey but I was so afraid he would prevent me from flying home on Sunday. Luckily all is well now with the 3 of us that went to Mexico for the surgery. I am now 5 days post op and getting really tired of the liquids but am looking forward to mussys. the Dr. in Mexico only requires liquids for 1 week. thank goodness. I think I might make it now.... dwilson banded 2/23/07
