Having started life as a tiny preemie...I then discovered food. My earliest memories revolve around being told I was fat and unattractive by my skinny, buliemic aunties. I lost, gained, lost gained, etc.....Finally decided to try the band.
From the 1st consultation all went smoothly, from the medical and psych clearances to the required nutririon classes. I was somewhat amazed to have my insurance carrier (not the best) approve surgery right away.
Surgery date of Feb.6th 2012 arrived after the one week pre-op diet. The nutritionists at my surgeon's office really help us through that by allowing things like raw veggies, Greet yogurt, V-8, oatmeal, etc. Just need to keep it under 1200 calories per day with the 4 shakes required for protein intake. Don't want anhone losing muscle mass.
Surgery day went OK. Definitely more discomfort that I was anticipating, mostly from the port site. A bit annoying to have to call the Aide in to disconnect IV, morphine pump, leg compression sleeves, etc for every toilet visit. Overnight stay and then the infamous barium swallow in the morning. Wish it was barium this was Gastrografin, horrible, bitter, stuff. They should pass out Listerine strips after that!
Then, finally, food, OK clear liquids. Then home!
Now almost 2 weeks out and on puree. Never knew pureed chicken breast could be be so good. The burping is horrible. I have some severe spasms with very painful burps. Surgeon assures me it will fade. I sure hope so.
But weighing in at 218 today. Woohoo! That's down like 12 lbs. And don't feel deprived like on a normal diet.
Back to work next week. As an x-ray tech I have to be careful about the lifting and stuff but I'll get in plenty of walking.
Have been walking with my dogs and that feels good.
Looking forward to getting closer and closer to goal.
