I Dont Know What To Do Anymore
bornready replied to dubsteppsycho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said she will not do a sleeve because of chances of leakage and also, why cut out a perfectly healthy organ and throw it away. What if there are complications and you do not have enough stomach left to fix? I went in thinking I would go for a bypass, I came out thinking "The band is for me". The results are slower, but like Sasha pointed out, it all evens out in the end. So here are my stats, I have lost 36 pounds in 3.5 months, I have never vomited, but I have had a stuck expierience. It passed on its own, but now I do not eat chicken breat unless I have some kind of sauce to moisten it. I have never had a slip. But a slip can happen at anytime, even during a auto accident. -
Worrying is normal, but you will be fine. Good luck on your journey!

I snack on smoked salmon and light cream cheese, no crackers. The salmon flakes easily and doesn't get stuck, I just smear some cream cheese on it and YUMMMM! I also like the small flavored cheese wedge with a couple wheat thins. I have also peeled and sliced a cucumber to use as a cracker.

bornready replied to colleenjoy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anthem "couldn't find" my paperwork after 4 weeks. It was resubmitted and we had approval within a week. Anthem "couldn't find" my paperwork after 4 weeks. It was resubmitted and we had approval within a week. -
Which one are you currently drinking? There are unflavored protein powders you can use...

1 Year And Counting, Loss Of Momentum And Confidence
bornready replied to Healingheart74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes to finding a new Dr and laying out your issues. The bariatric clininc that I go to has a support group meeting every month and I love that. Look around and see if there is a support group nearby. It has been drilled into my head since the very beginning, lean protein, then veg, then fruit. Try to have at least 3oz of protein per meal. Supplement with a low carb protein shake. I am down 34 pounds in 3.5 months and really just starting to really get into the weight loss, I have found my groove. I hope you find yours and get your momentum and confidence back. -
Non Measurable Results From Lap Band
bornready replied to guitar4life3000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I want to be able to fly to Vegas to visit my brother and not have anxiety about fitting in the seat. I want to ride a horse again, something I haven't done since I got above 200 pounds. I want to sit on the couch with my husband and not be uncomfortable, with the position I am sitting in or just uncomfortable in my own skin. I want to not have to think about which chair I can sit in and not break. So many things I will accomplish this year! -
Fluff wrote, I've had my band since December and had no restriction at all, until today !!!! Was really strange feeling I took I bite out of my lunch and was instantly sick, nothing came up but had this awful pain and every time I had a drink of Water it came back up. Ten min later I felt something shift and the pain has gone, but feeling really sore and afraid to eat again, I'm due another fill tomorrow and don't know if I should go ahead ??? You had food stuck in your band. If this was the first time you have experienced this in 3 months, congrats! when the pain went away, that meant that it cleared your band. When this happens, it can cause inflammation and you probably shouldn't eat for awhile. Tell you doc what happened and ask them if you should have another fill.

It all depends on how much was put in your band. My doc put 1.5cc in a 10cc band at the time of surgery. My first month, I could barely eat anthing and lost 18lbs. 2nd month, I could eat alot of the old stuff I used to eat and lost 10lbs. 3rd month, I felt almost no restriction and was munching all the time. I got my first fill, she gave me 2.5cc and I couldn't swallow water! She took a cc out, and the Water went down. I am now at 3cc in my band and my restriction is good and I have lost 2lbs since my fill last Monday. So good luck Sultan, you will get to a green zone and get it dialed in. B52, that comment was neither informative nor helpful to someone who is posting for the first time, shame on you. Don't run off the first timers being a jack hole.

Your Dr is robbing you, unless they are scoping you when they do the fill. My surgeon doesn't even do my fills, her PA does and it was over in less that 3 minutes! She told me to take a deep breath, hold it and push my stomach out, she found the port, stabbed it and injected... done! I don't know if my insurance will cover the fill, but even if they don't, my Dr only charges $130. Had my first fill last Monday and I have lost 2 pounds!

Fish goes thru the band very easily, so it will not stay in the upper pouch long. If I really want a full feeling, I have to eat beef, I cut it up super small and chew like mad, but it stays with me longer than anything else.

I still have cocktails and a beer now and then, but I haven't had a fill yet. something tells me after a fill, I may not be drinking beer at all, carbonation hurts like heck when the gases build up in your tummy! Take it easy, I had to learn the hard way after a night of wine drinking at a friends wedding. Lets just say I was glad I was home when I started to get sick. I am sure my surgeon would have been so mad, she would have made me give my band back after all the dry heaving I did! WOW! I was so mad at myself for making such a huge mistake. Moral of the story, moderation, water, and don't drink till you puke! No Bueano! I couldn't eat solid food for 24 hours, I thought I had made the band slip with all that trauma I put it thru. Woke up Monday and could eat again, thankfully!

I got obsessed and really down on myself when the numbers weren't going down fast enough, so I threw my scale in the trash and now only weigh myself at my Dr's office.

Not only do they say not to use them because of air, but the amount you drink is more and that could stretch your stomach out. The same goes for carbonated drinks, they cause your stomach to expand because of air. If you do use straws or drink a carbonated beverage, use moderation, don't do it everyday. I noticed when I was first banded that carbonated bevs caused painful gas build up. Now that I need a fill, not so much. Also, my Dr said something about the excess air and burping could potentially cause band slippage. Moral of the story, I don't use straws, I have maybe one or two carbonated bevs a week ( I love an ice cold beer now and then) and I listen to my Dr. (Don't tell her I am drinking empty calories PLEASE)

December Bandsters!! How Ya Feeling??
bornready replied to loretta\ Baconton Georgia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 8th of December and I have not had a fill yet. I am waiting the 90 days so that insurance will pay. Yes, I am that cheap! I have definitely noticed a difference this month. I can eat anything but white meat chicken. To dry, get stuck to easy, even when it is cut up to miniscule pieces. I don't even know if I have lost any weight since my last Dr visit, I threw my scale away. I was getting obsessive. I got really down on myself, but then my husband reminded me that I have lost 28 pounds in 2 months. Duh, I am doing great and I don't need to be validated by some stupid inanimate object 2 to 3 times a day. Ü -
Difference Between Chewable And Gummy Vitamins?
bornready replied to Quinnmc79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forgot to take my chewable one morning and when I got to work, a co-worker gave me one of her gummy vitamins. It didn't get stuck, per se`, but I could tell it was not going down very easy. The feeling lasted about 10 minutes. So, if you are told to take the chewables, start off with a small bottle of those and go from there. I also use the Flintstone vitamins, reminds me of my youth! -
Smaller Band Vs Larger Band: Is This True?
bornready replied to Twillwood's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon fixed a hiatal hernia, the PA said they are common in obese people. I asked her if that could be the cause on my acid reflux, and said it was the total cause of my acid reflux. She took pics of my insides and showed me the before and after pics. Very cool! I don't know about the band size, but I have a 10cc band, at least that is what I was told when I got my info back from Allergan after I registered. We never discussed different sizes =) -
Just Had My First "stuck" Experience....i Think
bornready replied to chrissylu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Same thing happened to me, and it is always with chicken! It has happened to me twice since my surgery 12-8-11. My PA said yep, that is what that is. You took to big a bite and didn't chew very well, or you can also do it by eating to fast. I thought it was cut up small enough, but I was probably eating to fast. I had to get up and walk around, it was very uncomfortable. -
So glad to hear that! I eat with baby spoons, makes the meal last longer and I get a fuller sensation than when I eat with a big fork.

Remember, you did not gain this weight overnight, and neither will you lose it overnight either. I am 9 weeks out and I am not scheduled for a fill till the 12th of March. I had the same feelings as you did and talked to my husband about them last night and he made me feel better about it. I had become scale obsessed and was down on myself because it was not moving as fast as I want it too. He had to remind me that the reason I picked the band was so I would lose it slowly. Take a deep breath, drink your protein, eat with a baby spoon and it will come off, eventually. =) Good luck!

Hello Everyone, I was banded on Dec. 8th 2012 by Dr Laura Machado of Sacramento Bariatric. Nice lady and her wonderful and capable PA Kylie Nuckols is great! I have since lost 28lbs, but I have hit a plateau in the last week. I am not getting a fill till after 90 days so my insurance will pay for it. I guess I am that cheap! Has anyone else expierienced a tableau right before a fill? It feels like I am hungry all the time now, and that just started 2 weeks ago.
