Interesting article on the 3,500 calories burned equals a pound of fat discussion
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
was a good article. I know 3500 cals is a pound and if I eat more then I burn off, I will gain. I did not get over 300+ pounds by dieting and eating lettuce. I ate the wrong foods. Thankfully the band/olication is helping me eat less and I am making smarter choices in food as I have a helper now. -
What do I tell them?
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to Kai-shek's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told a couple at work (as they worked directly for me/with me) and of course HR...the others just assumed I was taking time off..I say do and say what ever is comfortable for you. Its your life and its your business. Congrats on making a wonderful decision. it was the best one I ever made. -

HELLO! NEW HERE! Scared to try Lap Band! Any stories to go for or against would be SOO HELPFUL!
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to CWinkler340's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
any WLS has good and bad and there are pros and cons. you will have some that have complications and some that have none. you will also have people who are widely successful as they follow their dr's instructions and then you have people who do not do as well and blame everyone/everything (including elvis) that its the bands fault..those are the ones who are the most negative usually. regardless of which you get, the band, the sleeve, the bypass , the ds whatever, you must chance how and what you eat....exercise and develop a want to attitude... to want to lose weight bad enough to do what you have to do to lose weight...putting all excuses, high school drama behind and get on with it. the band is not overly hard (and its not overly easy) but if you help this tool the dr gives you, you can be successful.....that choice is up to you. -
i did and made my vitamixer earn its keep..(blend til super smooth)

How well do you tolerate soda after banding?
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to PraisingHim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am surprised your dr/nutritionist didnt advise you of this....but some do and the majority dont.....i lived on diet soda and thought id die with out it...nearly 9 months without one....and I haven't died yet because of it...my choice to listen to my dr. -
i think alot is based on age, weight, heritage etc....i think as you lose and exercise, you can/will tone but there is always that chance of saggy..you can later have surgery if you want...just keep doing what you are doing as you are doing great in my book. ps, let me add, i'll take saggy over seeing the scale over 300+ again

How do I make butternut squash fries?
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to meyouus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bake-tastic Butternut Squash Fries Total Time: 1 hr 5 min Prep 25 min Cook 40 min Yield: 1 serving Ingredients 1 butternut squash (large enough to yield 1 pound once peeled and sliced) 1/8 teaspoon coarse salt, plus more, optional Ketchup, as dip, optional Directions Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Peel squash with a vegetable peeler. Slice the ends off the squash, and then cut it in half width-wise. Cut the round bottom piece in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Using a crinkle cutter or a knife, carefully cut squash into spears or French-fry shapes. Thoroughly blot moisture away with paper towels, and sprinkle evenly with salt. Spray a broiler pan, a baking rack placed over a baking sheet, or a baking sheet with nonstick spray, and then place spears flat on it. Bake in the oven 20 minutes, and then carefully flip spears. Continue to bake until tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, about 20 minutes longer. Serve with ketchup for dipping, if using. Enjoy! Anyone with this issue???
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to TylerAshton567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i also had my gallbladder removed in 04 (when i lost 70 pounds that year)...it was emergency surgery and hurt between my shoulder blades i mean terrible.. i had like 3 or 4 (attacks) and each time in emergency room.....the last time hub told them i was staying til they fixed me..... -
so you are losing......and you want a fill (to help you lose) more? i think you are doing exactly what you need to be doing. my dr wanted me to have the bypass also but like you i was too (scared)...i told him the band was for me and i'd be his success story. and you know what i am....make the band work for you by helping it. and you ARE. i dont have any fills but am eating alot of Protein in my allotted amounts like you are...get a fill when/if you are ready..i am living proof that you do not need a fill (to lose weight).

day 5-8/9 were the worst for me...my left shoulder i would have gladly let jason from friday the 13th movies cut that sucker clean off...i used the gas x (didnt help that i saw), used heating pad, a hot shower directly on my shoulder and walked as much as i could and def kept up with my pain meds.......and then one day i woke up and it was gone..i know it doesnt look like it now, but it does and it will get better.
