    Metabolism

Here are some ways you can help revive and boost your metabolism. Make sure you eat breakfast. If you don't eat breakfast, you slow down your metabolism and send the body into "hoard mode," thinking it's starving because you're going a long period of time frequently 8 to 10 hours or more, without food. Eat the majority of your food earlier in the day. Dinner should be your lightest meal, and some experts recommend you don't anything after 8 p.m., or any later than 3 to 4 hours before bedtime. This helps your body process and burn the food when you're aware and moving around and burning more calories per hour. Don't starve. Dropping your calorie intake below 1,000 calories a day will signal to your body that you are in starvation mode, and will slow down your metabolism. Eat smaller meals more frequently. Smaller, more frequent meals keeps your blood sugar stable and provides a steady source of energy to fuel metabolism. Get enough aerobic exercise. As much as you can is really a help for your metabolism, and if you do it in the morning, you'll raise your metabolism all day. Build muscle with weight training or resistance exercise. At least two to three times a week, you should add weight training or progressive resistance exercise that builds muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat, and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, even at rest! Water, Water, water!! You've heard it before, but drink those 8 8-ounce glasses of water every day. The energy burning process of metabolism needs water to work effectively. Get enough B Vitamins. Among supplements, if you are suffering from flagging energy, you need to make sure that you are getting enough B vitamins. Vitamin B-12 in particular is one that is essential for energy. To ensure you're getting enough B vitamins, consider taking a B complex, plus a separate sublingual B-12. Try a supplement for fatigue. Another type of supplement useful for fatigue is in the area of substances that the body naturally produces for energy production. Supplements in this category include: Co-enzyme Q10, also known as coq10, which supplies energy to muscles L- Carnitine NADH (Nicotinamide Adenine Finucleotide) which helps cells convert food into energy Green Tea extract Try Chinese Herbs In terms of herbal remedies, while you should avoid ephedra and ma huang stimulants, you can ask your practitioner about schizandra--a Chinese herb that is used for fatigue. Ginseng is also popular for energy. Before trying any herbs, supplements, or vitamins, you should of course consult with your practitioner to ensure they are safe for you. Ginseng, for example, is not recommended for someone with high blood pressure and many herbs and supplements are not recommended during pregnancy. Try mate tea In the process of writing my book, Living Well With Hypothyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know, I had the opportunity to interview herbal and aromatherapy expert Mindy Green of the Herbal Research Foundation. I asked her what, as a person with hypothyroidism, I should reach for when I'm just completely out of steam, and am ready for a giant double espresso in order to make it through the day. Mindy, said, unquestionably, mate tea. Mate, pronounced, "mah-tay," is an herbal tea native to South America. Mate is considered far more nutritious than black tea or coffee, and though it also has some caffeine, its effects are energizing, rather than making people jittery. Consider Energy Work Energy and bodywork , such as yoga, tai chi, qigong (pronounced chee-gung), and Reiki, can all help in adding and balancing energy. In qigong, tai chi, and yoga, gentle movements are used to move energy along the energy pathways of the body. In Reiki, a practitioner helps open up energy channels. (Remember to always check with your practitioner before starting any herbs or supplements.) http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweightloss/a/12ways.htm

    Losing motivation

i told myself i would not respond but for about a week now you have posted how upset you are at (not losing) when in fact you have lost about 30 pounds and are doing 10000% superb. everyone on here has told you this time and time again......myself at least 5 or 6 times. this being bummed and upset and discouraged is only hurting YOU...and franking its getting old.. how about writing how great losing 6 bags of 5 pounds of sugar is...or how much better you are feeling and eating... my last note to you is this, and believe it or not, its true the scale goes up and down all day long......its not really accurate. losing inches is......if your pants are loose, by gosh you are losing. if they are tight, could be Water weight or gaining...... so again, you questioning why put in all this effort and not getting results is just silly......nearly 30 pounds lost by you is something to be writing positive about because its freeking awesome.

How do you know if you hurt your band?

its major surgery so you are bound to be sore (they cut into your tummy etc) i also had the hernia repair and for a month, i was def sore/tummy tender..but it does get better.....like miss said, only your dr can advise if a band is slipped or eroded or went to disney land.....always refer to him if you are truly concerned... just relax, sip and sip and then sip some more.....as you heal, you will be able to drink more as the swelling is going down...congrats on your surgery
  15. i eat when i am (truly hungry). if i think i am hungry, i drink first (to determine if i am head hungering)......i think like a baby....babies eat when hungry and turn their head away when they are done.....me too (too bad i didnt do this when i got over 300+ pounds..
  16. congrats on the weight loss keep drinking the liquid (helps you stay full and combats head hunger). i am a lover of peach ice tea by crystal light......be lost without it.. eating, like mis said, depends on whom you ask. if you eat, focus on protein first (that is your fuel) and veggies and some fruit....good food and not (processed/high sodium)....if you understand that 3500 cals is a pound whether its ate or drank and to not take in more calories than you burn off, you will lose weight (and the band helps us eat less) isnt that a great lifestyle now that we have??

  18. ☠carolinagirl☠

    Pre-op Again

dont be nervous but you will be anyhow......some people like me had to do the 2 week liquid and some did only a week and some had a 2 day before or none.....i think it is just based on what your surgeon wants.....i wish you all the best
  19. ☠carolinagirl☠

This was not in the brochure

sip and sip and sip some more........as in relation to me, as my swelling inside subsided, i was able to drink more and more (and became more hungry)...so it sounds as if you are right on schedule.....my left shoulder hurt really good for 4 or 5 days...def a 7 or 8 on a pain scale of 1 to 10....but it did go away...... yep on going #2, i still have clothes in my desk at work, just in case and the gas/farting etc....just call me jiffy pop...it is just part of my life now...i swear i just heard a duck.....did you?? ps, love your posts and i look forward to reading them

    Saggy Skin

http://www.webmd.com...o-expect?page=2 As for slimming wraps, "any loss of inches is going to be temporary,'' Fryhofer says. ''Wraps cannot take the place of a healthy diet and exercise." Ellis agrees. "After you take the [slimming] wrap off, there will be an appearance of tightness," she says. "It is definitely temporary." It may only last a day or two. But if you're trying to look good for a day at the beach on your honeymoon, temporary improvement may be good enough, Ellis says. "I look at those slimming wraps like a spray tan," she says. "It's temporary, but sometimes that's OK." "They won't give you long-term weight loss," Tanzi says. "They can temporarily make you feel a little thinner, and when you look at the scale the pounds can go down a pound or two. But that's Water weight loss. It's a temporary phenomenon."

    Hearing horror stories of failure

the other posters said it all very well. any WLS has pro's and con's...and good and bad points.and any surgery can have complications..its just part of having major surgery. i find the ones who complain the loudest against are the ones who diverted off the path of following their doctors instructions in how to live the banded or bypassed or sleeve lifestyle...some go into this surgery and expect a month post op to lose 50 pounds or more by now and if they dont, they are discouraged or bummed and saying what am i doing wrong... its not magic, its not overnight and its not for sure...what you can be sure of if you adhere to the allotted amounts, eat better foods and exercise, you can be successful and lose weight..
  23. ☠carolinagirl☠
