"that's Great For Them, But That Won't Be Me" - Anyone Think That?
otters38 replied to HumbleBeginnings's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, you probably won't be exactly like them, but you will look good for YOU!! Keep your focus on you and not others. We are all built and wired differently and weight comes off and on differently. Try to stop comparing yourself to others and set goals for yourself. You can do this! -
I am no expert and am only 2 days post op, but I have read about something called Bandster Hell, which is what you have just described.....the swelling and all if gone from your surgery and you feel pretty good eating lots of things. Some people put some weight back on during this time. ONce you get your first fill all will be well and the weight will start melting off again. I think you are right where you should be. They said it is hard to stick to it during Bandster Hell because you are able to eat. Just make good choices the best that you can, and get your count down going for your first fill. Good Luck!

You will do great!! I was very nervous as well, but once the anestheiaologist came in and talked to me and shared my fears he was GREAT and explained everything. I was 100% ready when the took be back. The surgery itself only takes about 30 minutes. THe other 20-30 minutes is the pre and post stuff of the surgery...you are still under when they do these things. I just kept telling myself people get put under for wisdom teeth or broken bones or heaven forbid cancer related surgeries. That put this minor surgery in persepective for me. It was a piece of cake. The days after surgery are probably worse then the actual surgery. YOu can do it!! You will feel so supported being here! IT helps so much!!

My mom makes the best salsa. She doesn't have exact measurements, but I'll give you my estimation. 2 cans Hunts diced tomoatoes A handful of fresh cilantro 2 T of onion--white or purple 1 tsp of salt 3-4 sliced jalapenos--the ones from the jar that are already sliced. I also like to add a spoonful of the jalapeno juice to mine. I like it a bit spicier. Put all of the above in a food precessor and let it do its magic. It's so easy and delicious!!

Many congrats to you!! You are a true inspiration. I needed to see this today as right now I keep thinking, what did I do to myself. I am only 2 day pre-op, so I know it will get better but this is rough. I can't wait to be where you are though. Thanks for inspiring me.

It's cmforting knowing someone else feels what you feel. This is just unlike anything I have ever done. It will all be great in a few more weeks, but this sure is crazy! We can do it!!
-
I use the Premiere Nutrition from Sam's club too. It tastes pretty good actually. I have only tried the chocolate! Good luck!

I was banded on March 6th too!! I could have typed your post for you as I feel the same way. I feel good but weak. It is just hard to get much of anything down. Slow sips all day but I'm not even getting close to 64oz. The craziest feeling is when you take a sip and you can actually feel it go all the way down. Is that how it is always going to be now or does that go away. Its just weird. It feels like there is a funnel at the top and the liquid sits in there and then just slowly funnels down. Crazy!!! Every day seems a bit better. The gas has been the worst!!! I am hoping by the ed of the weekend I will feel normal again...I hope:)

12 Hours Post Op And Feeling Great!!
otters38 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm trying to not get over confident as things could turn at anytime, but everything has gone so smoothly today. From the surgery to being home now. Water, Gatorade, and chicken broth all going down fine. The gas is a tad uncomfortable but manageable. Best of the luck to all MarchBandsters. -
My surgery is the day before! I am a bit nervouse too, but more nervous about what will happen to me if I don't do this!!! I am so ready for this. I am now thinking the pre-op diet is a test to see how committed we are...LOL!! I know that is not the case!

Consuming My Thoughts!
otters38 replied to Talk teacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am curious about this too. Prior to all of this though, my days were consumed with food as well though. I'm sure things will settle down once you get more comfrotable with things and knowing the ins and outs of what you can and can't eat and how much. We are totally retraining ourselves. It's going to be hard, but we can do it! -
I truly think these two weeks prior to surgery are the most difficult. I start my all clear liquid diet tomorrow as my surgery is on Tuesday and I am beyond ready. I am done being crabby, lethargic, etc. It does take its toll on you. Is it worth it, YES!! I am down 16 pounds so I am super excited about that, but I am just so hungry!! It has been a long two weeks to say the least. Hang in there everyone! It will all be worth it in the end!!
-
6 more days for me, then an all clear liquid diet. The end is in sight!! I can do this!! I never thought I would be looking so forward to chicken broth, sprite and apple juice! These protein shakes are killing me!! All worth it! I'm sucking it up:)

I called after a week to check on things. I suggest doing this as they had no record of my paperwork??? After that call I was approved 2 days later!!
-
What about mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC? I know they aren't very healthy, but my dr said to not worry so much about calories, but rather get your body back to a good point. If you mix in enough gravey they would be very thin. Their mashed potatoes are very smooth as it is, just thick. oatmeal?? I don't like it either, but it's good for you. I was also thinking some Soup from Panera or somewhere that you could blen further to break down and maybe add some chicken broth?? Good luck to you. I will be there soon!!

My surgery is on March 6th as well:) I am been on my pre-op diet for 6 days now and it has been rough!! I know it will be worth it in the end, but my goodness this has been the toughest thing I have ever had to do I think. I consider myself luck as I have protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, then a Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine for dinner. I can also have 2 servings of fruit a day and a serving of sherbert. That sounds like a lot but I am really struggling. I've lost 10 pounds in those 6 days though, so tht is what is getting me through, oh and keeping VERY busy!! Best of luck to you. We will have to stay in touch since we have the same day surgery!
-
I am on day 5 of my pre-op diet and am excited that I have lost 9 pounds, HOWEVER I am so constipated. I am drinking tons of water, I get two fruits a day and steamed veggies along with my protein shakes and grilled chicken or fish. I have also taken two doses of MiraLAX--one yesterday and one today. Still NOTHING!! This is horrible. Any other suggstions?? I just got off the treadmill but could only do about 10 minutes. My tummy just hurts. UGH!!!

I admire your strength and honesty B-52. I have learned a lot about sucking it up this week. I got myself to this place and now I have to make sacrifices to not only get myself out, but to change my ways for the rest of my life. I can't lie to you and tell you I never whine, I do as I am only on day 5 of pre-op, but I like you would have done anything my dr told me in order to get this tool to help me be successful. Giving up a handful of food items, buffets, mindless eating is so worth the end result. Thanks for keeping it real. I have to admit I was a bit offended as I first read your post and was ready to breathe fire, but I never speak without thinking first, or at least I try not too:) After giving it much thought, you are right. It is just hard for those of us who just started to hear it. It is the truth and we are better people for sucking it up and doing what is best for our bodies, life, and family.
-
We had a potluck at work yesterday too. It was so difficult. These two weeks are deprivation. At least afte the band we can have a "taste" of some things. The deprivation is a hard mental game in my opinion.

Every doctor is so different on what they want the pre-op diet to be. I have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch then get to eat a Lean Cuisine or grilled fish or chicken with steamed veggies for dinner. I am considering myself really lucky compared to some of the diets I have read on here. The skim milk one for two weeks was the worst I have heard It will all be worth it! Hang in there!!
-
Skim milk for 2 weeks?? I cannot imagine!! I am dying on 2 protein shakes and a healthy dinner of chicken or fish and steamed veggies. I am having a feast in comparison. That had to have been horrible!! WOW!!!
-
Thanks for saying that Cocoanbean. That will help me get through too.
-
My family had left over lasagna that I made over the weekend for my last splurge!! This is very difficult, but I will not cheat, I can't. I will only be cheating myself and my chance for a successful surgery. I am chewing the heck out of a piece of SF gum right now. I can have some sherbert in a bit. I never thought I would look so forward to that!!
-
I wish I could say the same. Today is day 1 for me and it has been ROUGH!! I am hoping after a couple days it will get easier, but I am in the pity party stage right now! I keep looking at the before pics my hubby took of me over the weekend. ICK!! That tends to slap me back to where I need to be Best of luck to you. We can do this!
