Stomach Gurgles When I Eat
ladyfromirvine replied to TEDO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gurgle? ha .. be happy its just a gurgle.. my stomach plays the entire anvil chorus..... try sitting in a high level meeting with your peers after lunch with all that racquet... oh joy.... but still worth it -
and yes i live in irvine, ca...counting the days to get that fill.....eating my egg whites and dry toast...going to the gym... being good.. but i sure am feeling like this is taking an awfully long time. i guess i have the next 30 years to live... so waiting another 11 days for a fill is reasonable.

i was bandedon feb 9th.. it wasn't bad enough to have the bloat, the gas, the burps the pain.... then i got the ITCH... i was wondering if i had been banded under an unlucky star. well the good news is, ITCH or no itch.. i lost 20 pounds and i' still haven't had a fill... my first fill is march 22nd.. im dying to know what being filled will really mean. I'm told I will feel full quicker.. that i won't want to eat large portions. etc etc.. i never knew it took so long to get some sort of HELP from this band.. up til now its all been white kknuckle dieting.. just like the old days.. only this time with the burps, the bloats, the pain.... and oh yes, the itch from the planet lapband.

The Progress We Are Making: Our Successes And Our Speed Bumps
ladyfromirvine posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello February Banders. I wanted to begin a place where we could offer suggestions to each other on how to get through this early period while we are healing and waiting for that first "fill". My story:(briefly) Although I'd thought about a lap band for several years, it wasn't until I failed my last diet that I began feeling dieting was hopeless and that I was doomed to inhabit an obese body for the remainder of my life. When my thoughts turned to depression and my life began to seem hopeless....I made a decision to fight. From the moment I had the energy to try again I knew what I had to do. From the decision to banding for me.. .took a mere 2 weeks. I decided the fastest and easiest way for me (I live in southern california) was to head for mexico where the preop screenings were reasonable and expeditious. I made a phone call and started a preop diet the same day. 2 weeks later I was banded in Mexico and home the next day. My doctors insist on a full liquid diet for 21 days post op. Banding at 6 weeks. I am heading back to mexico on march 22 for a first fill. I am down 17 pounds and have 43 to go . I don't know how I would have gotten even this far without the support of other people who have gone before me and others who are marching behind. Its the connection I feel between myself and those others who share this part of my world.. that has made such an enormous difference. -
i broke out in the rash from hell from that damn glue they use and tape... drove me nuts.. but i put hydrocortosone 1% cream all around the wounds, not on them.. and that soothed the itch enough for me to live with it.. took 3 weeks to clear... DON'T whatever you do scratch.. if you do you can make striates.. which will stay with you a long time.. women do that in pregnancy and leave awful marks on their tummys.. just rub through your clothes lightly if its becoming nightmarish.. check with your docs too.. maybe they have some ideas for you. benadryl didn't work..calamine lotion didn't work...i just had to ride mine out.. when it finally abated.. i just used aloe or oil of olay lotion on my torso to cool it and to get the skin back to normal... oh the joys of lap band.. welcome to the club

What A Difference A Day Makes.....
ladyfromirvine commented on DSC1970's blog entry in DSC1970's Blog
my bad went on feb 9th... i am now 25 days out and im back to zumba and salsa dancing. i still h ave the occasional twinge or tug at the port site.. but now i can lie on both sides and even my belly if i want to. each day brings more healing and less discomfort... im now waiting with great anticipation to get a fill... since right now i have no restriction -
i had my surgery on feb 9th and headed for my first fill on march 22nd as well... so far about 22 pounds down.. but with no restriction this feels suspiciously like any other restrictive diet i've ever white knuckled in the past. im really hoping that fill does something to make me feel fuller.. right now anything will go down including a flying pig and a fat cat. i hear about people having trouble swallowing siliva ! I'd be happy to not be able to eat bread!!!

Psycholgical Support After Banding
ladyfromirvine replied to jennifer1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't think , a psychiatrist is the last person to to talk to... i'd say get invovled in a support group of other baratric patients in your local area..(sometimes they are lead by counslers, social workers or clinicians) go out to lunch with other bariatric patients... talk about the unique problems we face as a group and as individuals. if your looking for medication fixes... im sure many psychiatrist will be happy to take your money and give you meds that always seem to fatten you up. unless you are in dire straights.. and are facing life altering problems associated with this surgery.maybe present a danger to yourself or someone else,,if not, , consider the support group, to be honest,. being happy to fit into a size 12 instead of an 18 doesn't sound like a life crisis to me. it sounds more like a blessing good luck -

when all else fails you can do what i did.. from decision to surgery was 2 weeks. i was banded in mexico and i am 3 weeks post op. i can't say enough about the facility and the doctors.. the entire procedure, including transportation to and from the us border into mexico and a stay overnight in a 5 star hotel all cost 5K. I figured i'd spend more than that on my car.. so why not on me. the surgery center was spotless, the staff professional and the care wonderful. if i had to wait as long as some people i read about here... i would be collecting social security before i would be approved for surgery.

sounds like healthy eating to me.. but depends on your activity level too.. if youre satisfied with the rate of weight you are losing at.. youre ok.. don't compare yourself to anyone.. each persons journey is their own.. good luck -

February Bandsters?
ladyfromirvine replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
banded feb 9th.. still on full liquids for 5 more days.. healing is going nicely.. life is about back to normal except for the food part. back to mexico march 22 for first fill.. no restriction yet.. so the weight im losing is all white knuckle dieting and the fear of doing some harm to this band. don't want complications. got the fitnesspal app.. helpful for motivation.. try it.. its free -
Let' start with "the easy way out" There is no statement farther from the truth. One does not arrive upon the decision to insert a foreign object around ones stomach and a port beneath one's skin to take the "easy route". Tell your friends and family who are feeding you that line that they are dreaming. The surgery isn't some in and out wart removal... there are several puncture wounds made and one small incision where the port is placed. This is all done under general anesthsesia with all the risk that being put out entails. The recovery immediately post op varies person to person, some waking up feeling fine others waking up nauseated and vomiting. The first couple of days are achey at the wound sites, Some people have gas, bloating and pain on deep breathing. Turning and sleeping is difficult as the wound sites are tender and hard to put pressure on. Diets vary after the procedure from doctor to doctor, My diet seems extreme at 21 days of full liquids. Other doctors prescrbe sollid foods sooner. You aren't restricted by the band in the healing period..liquid passes through unobstructed. It is not until about 6-8 weeks later that you actually get a "fill" and then have some restriction. But back to your friends who are living in la la land.. the band doesn't do its work by magic. what you put in your mouth, the exercise you do and the attitude you have all play a role in success... read the blogs of those who have succeeded and those who have failed and you begin to realize that the band itself is really just a small part of a much LARGER picture. I took my first long walk at 2 weeks post banding. I think that when I truly felt back in the land of the living. I went back to work after 5 days post op. Everyone is different. You have to check with your doc and see what they want you to do. good luck.. but remember to tell your friends.. this is no party.. its work

Sore On The Left Side
ladyfromirvine replied to Kim Whiteman-Enos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are in what the older lap banders call "lapband hell"... I am 16 days post op now. when i first got home the port incision was achey. If i moved the wrong way it pulled and burned. sleep was literally a nightmare. I surrounded myself with pillows and slept upright. i had to stand up after every liquid meal and then listen to a serenade of the anvil chorus in stomach sounds. i was nauseated most of the time, bloated and plain miserable... that said.... the good news.. is it all gets better with time. and Now at 16 days i still have soreness at the port but the rest of me is normalizing and today for the first day in what feels like half a lifetime i got up and walked to starbucks, sat and had a green tea with stevia.. and marched back. and guess what.. i feel like i have returned to the land of the living. you will too.. -
What A Difference A Day Makes.....
ladyfromirvine commented on DSC1970's blog entry in DSC1970's Blog
hi..welcome aboard. I got banded feb 9,2012 so i am just a little further post op. i will say , the further you get from your surgical date the better life gets.. the gas that was so distressing the first days ( and the nausea and the bloating) are GONE. The ability to bend over without feeling you are losing your insides is also GONE. THe pain at the port site is just minor now and the hunger pangs are essentially GONE. and guess what.. there's an unexpected side effect of all this.. as the pounds come off,, all the little joint aches and pains are also GONE!!! Stick with it.. and one day.. all those big old moo moo dresses will be gone too. Best of luck -
i love salmon. i tend to like to fry it.. you can do it is spam or with a teaspoon of olive oil.. first marinate in a teriaki sauce put it in the pan for just a couple minutes on each side.. its so easy to make.. just watch the color of the fist go from a deep orange to a pink... keep basting it with the teriaki sauce.. is done in just a few minutes.. eat with a side of a steamed veggie and voila.. a meal you cook in less time than it takes to eat!!! thats my general rule of thumb. bon apetite.

im about 10 days post op as well.. i know that burning pinching feeling at the port site.. i made the mistake of bending to my knees and then standing up again.. i thought i would pass out from the pain, the port site is the most nagging discomfort.. but each day that passes it gets a little easier. i still have plans to go back to the gym by march 2. i start eating solids on march 1st. i am down 15 pounds since 2 weeks prior to the surgery and losing slowly, its hard for me to know when to eat and when not to eat as i work three night shifts a week and im awake in the daytime for the other 4 days. i think it will get easier when i am on 3 meals a day. 45 pounds to goal. my first fill is march 22.. good luck to both of us.

February Bandsters?
ladyfromirvine replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded february 9th.. recovering nicely.. just developed some alien rash on my torso.. no where else.. don't have a clue that it is.. sent an email to my docs... maybe they have seen it before.. just so worried that it is an allergy to the product they used for banding... that would be tragic.. im not going to panic.. at least not yet . weight loss is going slow and steady.. have no plans to give up the ship for a rash.. never heard anyone dying of a rash.. -
Banded For 2 Months, Slipped, Removed...moving Forward!

I don't know much about the sleeve but I am curious to now what might have made your band slip. Did your doc tell you why they thought this happened? -
Almost One Day Post-Op
ladyfromirvine commented on sweetsoutherngirl's blog entry in sweetsoutherngirl's Blog
well, welcome to the post op club! I am on my 8th day since I got banded... and I will say that with each passing day life gets better and better. The pain does subside, the gas does get less and less, the nausea will pass...and don't be surprised if you don't immediately lose weight.. my body retained water.. but by the 6th and 7th day i began losing. I've already gone back to work.. I found walking around and standing up helped to ease the gas and the pain.. but take it easy and good luck -
11 Days Out From Surgery
ladyfromirvine commented on Tracy Bloodgood's blog entry in Tracy Bloodgood's Blog
im 7 days out and finally starting to feel hungry. still on liquids.. just made the jump from clear consume and popsicles to liquid nofat yogurt. my stomach is playing the anvil chorus most of the time and i haven't seen a formed bm yet. but i know this is all in the short run.. and its related to the surgery and my body getting adjusted to all thats happened to it. protien shakes may ease the hunger and that s in one more day for me.. You are not alone.
