I already know that I had to quit smoking 2 months before the surgery, but nothing was said about using the nicotine patch or anything and it never even occured to me until yesterday (duh) that if I get tested the morning of my surgery it will show nicotine, but not from cigarettes! Now I'm afraid to mention it in case he cancels me! don't know what to do..

Congratulations!! You will be 6 days after me..wishing us luck! -
I only told my Dr that I quit smoking, but I didn't mention the patch or e-cig..should I ? I have my pre-op appt with him next thursday, 5 days before my surgery..I'm just scared because I don't want any reason for him to cancel my surgery, do you think it will be ok? Do they really test you the day of surgery? What if he doesn't believe me?

PS, I know it will sound crazy, but get a book called, The easy way to quit smoking, by Alan Carr..It was very helpful in my quitting..

I know your struggle..I had to quit as well before the surgery and I too have tried numerous times before..I quit on Jan 2nd but my question is, I was using the patch and the ecigs, which still have nicotine in them, so will this be accepted when I get tested the day of the surgery? I'm so nervous about that...

Good luck and think good thoughts..I will be joining you in less then 2 weeks!

Yes as long as you meet the criteria you should have no problems..BMI 40 or above, or BMI below 40 with 2 co-morbidities..Good luck
-
Glad you did so well..My surgery is in 2 weeks and I pray I do as well as that..good luck on your new journey..

My nutritionist said caffeine in moderation, whatever that means..I will find out after I have my surgery.
-
Good luck to you..I have Cigna and it took me over a year to get approved..My surgeon's office said Cigna is the worst..But they usually will always deny the first submission so don't get discouraged if they do, just try try again...

Definitely something to celebrate about! Congratulations, I can't wait until I join the losers club!

Can't Eat! Three weeks post op
kari61 replied to Heidie88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what you mean by can you stop this? But my nutritionist also told me that after 20 minutes if I'm not done eating, to stop. Sounds like a good thing that you aren't that hungry right? just make sure your getting in all your proteins and fluids... -

Congratulations! My surgery is on April 2nd..I did all my pre-ops already, just have my last visit with my surgeon the end of this month.. -
Good luck to you, how has it been so far since the surgery? I'm getting sleeved on April 2nd..

I was in the same situation as you. My insurance denied me last year for no co-morbidities, my Dr sent me for sleep study test and I do have sleep apnea as well. My insurance has since approved my surgery and tomorrow night I go for me second sleep study test for the CPAP machine. Yes you will have to sleep with it all the time now for the sleep apnea, but I'm hoping after the surgery and with some weight loss, I won't need it anymore after that. Nothing to be nervous about, I'm glad I had it to get approved for surgery, not looking forward to the machine, but hopefully won't need it for long!

Congratulations on your surgery date cwam ! 2 days after me..I tried the Bariatric Advantage shakes and so far they were good, also the GNC wheybolic was good as well. I would try some now so you know what you like before your surgery and don't have to deal with it after..Good luck to you.. -
I completely understand your fears as it gets closer..My surgery is schedule for April 2nd and the closer it gets the more nervous I get as well. I think it's only natural since we are "choosing" to have this surgery you can't help but question yourself. But I agree with newat52 that we have to remember why we made this decision in the first place, because we are miserable and tired of dealing with being over weight and unhealthy. It took me over a year of fighting with my insurance to finally get approved so I have to keep telling myself everytime I get nervous that I wouldn't have fought so hard to get this if I wasnt' sure it was what I wanted in the first place. Good luck to you and just keeping thinking about the positives to get you through your fears..

Just had all my pre-op tests done yesterday. The chest X-ray and blood work were fine, but that upper GI serious, ugh..I had to fast for the test and it took them 2 hours to do it because the girl who was doing it was new and didn't know what she was doing. Drinking that barium wasn't a picnic either but I got through it fine and glad it's all over with. My surgeon only has me doing a liquid diet the day before surgery so I'm lucky there. Can't believe it's only 3 weeks away from today! Just received my Chike shakes so I will try them this week..We're all getting closer! -
Thanks Buplee for your words of support and encouragement, I feel the same way about the band..I've heard of too many people having problems and my surgeon as well said that he is taking out more then he is putting in, so I feel confident in my decision..You are doing great with your weight loss, keep it up..I will silently wish you a Happy Birthday on the day of my surgery! LOL

Few Questions on required testing and insurance
kari61 replied to cmathews77's topic in Insurance & Financing
That doesn't make any sense. You have to see the surgeon first so they can submit a request for the surgery, so they definitely should have paid for that office visit, I would fight that. I had to pay out of pocket for the psych eval but my nutritionist is included with my Dr visits. You may have to wait to get approved before you do any labs or other tests though or they may not pay for that. But definitely fight the doctor visit.
