February Bandsters?
smmrsue replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MFP = my fitness pal They have a website and/or app that let's you log all of your food and exercise. It counts calories, inches, weight, trends. It has a lot of restaurant, fast food, grocery, and generic items. You can also add your own. It also helps you keep track of protein -
Celeste- I have been making the Jay Robb shakes. Lots of recipes on the web. Also, if you buy the powder at Vitamin Shoppe you can return it for store credit if you don't like the taste.

Anything You Wish You Knew Before You Had Surgery?
smmrsue posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my visit with my surgeon before surgery on Friday 3/9. I am getting so nervous and excited for my upcoming surgery! 32 days! This is my last opportunity to see him face to face. I have a list of questions to ask him, and I don't want to miss anything. Is there anything you wished you would have asked before surgery? Any good ideas on questions I should ask? Thanks! -
Riverside? I'm in Menifee. Do you ever go to the support group in Corona? I've been a couple of times and have been the only lap band person there. Thanks for the tip on Rite-Aid. I'm going to stop by there later.

Thanks Smiley and Ladybug. Looks like both of you are just what I need. A mentor who has been through it and a buddy at the same stage as I am. Thanks! My surgery is April 5th. Ladybug. It is great that your surgeon lets you book the surgery before approval. I would have done the same thing and not had to wait so long to have the surgery. As it is I'm only waiting until April because of a work obligation. All of the information on this site has already helped so much. It has already helped me to add to the laundry list of items I need to ask my surgeon. Good luck to you as well. Let me know if I can help as well. I can encourage the heck out of other people Smiley- Is there anything you wished you had known to ask your surgeon before you met with him? Thanks again ladies!

What Does An Ulcer Vs A Slip Feel Like?
smmrsue replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brown = old blood Green = intestinal bile. High amounts of stress (which it sounds like you are going through) can cause ulcers. Of course I am not a bariatric expert so I am sure there are bariatric issues that can cause this. With the blood in your intestines you should be evaluated ASAP. Again, I am not a doctor, but I am an RN. Call your insurance company and see what sort of out of state coverage you have and where you can go. I hope you get this taken care of ASAP -

Dumb Questions About Jumping When Stuck
smmrsue replied to Band. James Band.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The binder my surgeons office gave me actually lists jumping as a way to become "unstuck". Jump away. -
What Does An Ulcer Vs A Slip Feel Like?
smmrsue replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It sounds more like an ulcer than a slip, though only a doctor could tell for certain. Either way they both need to be evaluated and treated. Have you started consuming more caffeine? Higher stress? Any other ulcer triggers? Good luck! -
What a great topic. A great way we can learn how to support one another and truly know there is someone else out there with similar fears right now.

Just think that all of the calories you have burned worrying over the salad made up for any calories consumed. Just kidding. Don't worry about it overmuch and get back on track. I only hope when I start my pre-op diet I can make it 4 days without cheating. Good luck to you!

Gonna Be Banded In March:-)
smmrsue replied to ambitiousgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been given a three ring binder full of information and nutrition sheets. I have also attended the required psych evaluation, doctors talk (one hour general how to surgery), nutrition class, support group meetings, and a 4 hour general WLS class. Sheesh, three are a lot of hoops. The binder I got said that I could lose weight before surgery by any method I wanted or to use their Optifast pre surgery diet. I'm not sure what that is exactly. I live in southern California. There is an amusement park here that has all of the Charlie Brown characters. I thought you might be local.... Liverpool isn't too far away. LOL. BTW- if I had a supermodel body underneath I am going to be pissed that I am to old to cash in on it. Just kidding. I would do a happy dance, twice. If you go to the group section and search for Springers you can find us. Or I will attempt to send you a link. Hope to see you there! -

Lol and thanks to the 1 lb. loss. I'll take it!!!! I haven't had my one on one appointment with my surgeon yet, so I don't know how much weight he will want me to lose. I'm just trying to get a jump on it. 1 lb. at a time if I have to. I'm actually worried he will want me to lose an exorbitant amount of weight (20lbs?) and that's kind of freaking me out. How much weight do you have to lose? Is that Snoopy in the picture? Do you live in OC? BTW there is a group started called Springers for people who are being banded this spring. Please join! -

February Bandsters?
smmrsue replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I've been stalking the February bandsters posts to see what to expect... I have my surgery in April. Dee- do you think your friend might be jealous? It takes a lot of courage, planning, and determination to have the surgery. She might be feeling bad for not doing it herself and either trying to rain on your parade or see how you cope. Just a thought. -

I sent you another link. It should be in your inbox. -
Make sure to ask what his/her hold up is. I had a bariatric support group leader (who also does pre surgery psych evals) say that people who want the band are not serious about losing weight. He would automatically put these people in a high risk category. Any issue would make them disqualified. Even if you have to pay for an outside psych eval, it will be worth it. Good luck today!

Thanks for posting guys!! You give me hope. Congrats to both of you!

Thanks! I'll just steal my kids vitamins and add my women's funnies to my husbands.... He will never know. Lol. Thanks for the biotin tip. I'm already on vitamin B-12. I wonder why you have to wait? I'm also on a B complex vitamin. I thinking going to add selenium to my regime as well. Thanks for the info

I love this list! I have my top ten printed and on the fridge and inside my pantry. Skinny Bucket list! (no particular order) 1. Cross my legs like a lady 2. Be able to zip up boots. 3. Wear the skinny dress hanging in the closet. 4. Go on roller coasters 5. Budoir photo shoot (although at home it says "photo shoot*", that way the kids don't know) 6. Zip line 7. Mud run 8. Buy clothes in the single digits 9. Have a full length mirror in the house 10. Go dancing

Gummie vitamins are bad? My nutritionist said they were fine..... Please explain. I don't want to get stuck or anything, just do not like the chalkiness of some chewables. If it came down between being stuck though I choose chalky.

You can do it! You had a set back, oh well. You can do this! Start measuring your food and making better food choices. Log everything you eat on your my fitness pal or lose it. It helps! They also have bariatric counselors and psychologists to help. Do you attend any support groups? I recommend them.
