Starting The Process
pmartin323 replied to lspringman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have no idea about Insurance. As far as eating after the band, you will learn to take small bites and chew well cause there is nothing like getting stuck, it is gross and painful. What helped me to slow down was to keep a magazine with me while I ate, and talking to my husband and daughter asking questions about their day. Then when they look at me like OK you are being weird asking all these questions while we are trying to eat, I just go back to my magazine. -
Burping!..chest Pain!..stuck?
pmartin323 replied to rachelcummings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may have reflux. Or if you are drinking anything from a straw will give you the burps. As for the chest pain try taking some prilosec or something like it and see if that helps, otherwise you may want to visit your Dr. and discuss it with him/her. And if something gets stuck, you deff know it cause you begin spitting foamy spit til you either get it up or it goes down. -
What Does Your Doctor/nutritionist Recommend For Your Post Lap-Band Diet?
pmartin323 replied to Toddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is very similar to the others ...3oz. lean protein, 1/2 cup green vegetables, 1/4 cup starch vegetable. with 2 healthy snacks in between. -
It is normal to wait for 2 weeks, but every Dr. is different. Now of course if you are having any problems before your visit you should call and they will see you. Now my Nutritionist saw me ever 4 weeks, but I also met with her 1 week after beginning solid foods with my food log. I found my nutritionist a very valuable person as she helped me with reworking several recipes to make them more healthy and typically with a lot less sodium. You may be able to ask to reschedule that appt with her/him so that you can meet them sooner. Best of Luck

continue with the vit D, it helps your body absorb calcium. I hope everything goes well for you today. I dont feel that they will keep you from moving forward because of low calcium. Best of Luck. -
Lap Band With Plication
pmartin323 replied to Chocolatefier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week post-op for gallbladder removal and plication and a year and a half post-op lapband. I found that with my lap band when you switch from liquid, to purreed you tend to gain a little. I noticed that your choice of mushy was potatoes, instead of this opt for Protein, such as making chicken salad, Tuna salad, Egg salad. just make sure that with the chicken and tuna that you grind it up well in a food processor and use a healthy Mayo and not a lot of it. and Remember to eat your protein first. and watch those starchy vegetables like potatos and corn, and eat more green vegetables. I am ready for mush, but have another week of liquids to go, and I am tired of liquid. -
Portion Sizes (Knowing When To Stop)
pmartin323 replied to stac7975's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I would reach my limit, I felt it in my shoulders, and middle of my chest. Scales are very impportant in the beginning, ..... 3oz. lean protein, 1/2 cup green vegetable, 1/4 cup starch vegetable. Eat protein first, then green vegetables and if you have room left eat the starch, other wise stop when you are full. I also keep a magazine with me to look through while eating so that this helps me to slow down my eating. -
Some days I am ok with broccolli and some days not, I find that if I nibble the flourets it is less likely to get stuck. I tend to have trouble with things that have little moisture. But typically once you heal and are back on solid foods this will or should be your measurements for eating......3oz. lean protein, 1/2 cup green vegetable & 1/4 cup starchy vegetable. and then of course those healthy snacks or protein drinks. Please keep your protein up or you will lose more hair than one normally would from the general anethesia.

1 Wk Post Op And I've Already Cheated Several Times.....
pmartin323 replied to ktmoss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From my Dr. and PA I have learned that the band holds 10cc's of saline, which of course if too tight. My band was primed with 2.5cc's and after a month or so of healing I received my first and only fill of 2cc's which puts me at 4.5cc's and nearly half full. I have been informed that I am where most people live with the amount of saline in my band. I am currently 1 week (thursday) post-op from gallbladder removal and I requested my GI Dr. who did my lap-band to do the surgery due to the fact he is familiar with me and his work. I was banded in 2010 and have lost 50lbs. In addition to removing my gallbladder he did a procedure called a (thanks to another member on here) called a Pliation, which makes my stomach smaller. Needless to say I am back on liquids for 2 weeks, purreed for 2 and then solids. So far so good, yes I get hungry but I really want to get healthy, so I will not cheat, pluse I think the gallbladder surgery is a bit harder than the band or stomach thing. -
Post-Op Gallbladder Removal
pmartin323 replied to pmartin323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Steeler fan Thank you and best of luck to you and your weightloss. -
Good evening, I was banded in 2010 and have been doing pretty good, have not lost the total amount I wanted but never the less, I am lighter than I was and grateful for every lb. lost. A week ago today, I had severe pain that I thought was a heart attack and ended up being my gallbladder and had it removed by the same GI Dr. who did my band on Thursday. Since my weight loss total was between 46-50 lbs. He informed me and my husband of a new procedure that they began doing 6 months ago with lapband patients. This procedure is rolling your stomach to make it smaller. So in addition to removing the gallbladder he also "rolled" my stomach. I am wondering if anyone else has had their stomach "rolled" in addition to the band. Thanks

Post-Op Gallbladder Removal
pmartin323 replied to pmartin323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best I can tell ya, is that he rolled it like a piece of paper according to what he showed my husband. Thus far it does not feel any different, and I have tried looking up the procedure but have not found anything as yet. I was on so much pain meds before and after surgery I dont remember a great deal, I just said go ahead and do it......LOL. I do plan on asking him or the PA when I return for a visit next week. -
Speaking of GAS....make sure you get those gas x strips, they will come in handy
-
You are sore but it is not awful. I just had my gallbladder removed (Thursday will be a week) and I am in more pain with this than I was with the band surgery. Just take things day by day, and dont overdo anything.
-
This depends on how long your Dr. wants you on liquids then purreed, then solids. As for my Dr. I had to be on liquid diet for 2 weeks, and the same for the rest. Other Drs. do the diet differently. So depending on him will depend on how well you will enjoy disney or not. Good luck

1 Wk Post Op And I've Already Cheated Several Times.....
pmartin323 replied to ktmoss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The success of the lap band remains in your hands. The band is only a tool to help, we still have to remember that we have to change our habits, and it is possible for the band to fail by not following the suggested amount of food. As for me I only eat 3oz. of Protein, 1/2 cup vegetables & 1/4 cup starch. All this together will equal 1 cup. I wish you luck, and I am sure you can do this.
