I think I was 9 when I was put on my first diet. I started out as a normal kid, but began to gain weight when I started school. It set off a life-long struggle. I don't remember any time after the age of 9 when I was not on a diet or obsessing about my weight. I lost and gained, lost and gained more, lost and gained even more. When I was 36, I hit my highest ever weight of 228 lbs and knew that since dieting had never worked for me, if was time to try something new.
I chose a band. I couldn't justify permanently altering a healthy digestive tract, and I didn't want any parts of my organs amputated, so the bad emerged as the clear choice for me over the alternative bariatric surgical procedures. I was banded in February 2012 and have been losing slowly, but surely since then. Yay, me.
