    Getting my life back

As far as my doc is concerned.. pop or anything carbonated is a no no. Tends to stretch the pouch and was told it was very painful to boot. I'm not gonna try it.. nuh uh. I drink Crystal Light. and reduced calorie juice. Crystal Light equals my water for the day and the juice tastes like a treat to me. I didn't do the "last supper" meal, but many have... so go for it!! Just know that you WILL be able to eat normal food again.. but this time you'll eat it like a "normal" person with portion control. Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Got a call back from the lap band center. Nurse says.. DON'T WEIGH EVERY DAY!! She said the rapid loss at the beginning was all the fluid.. just like was said in here. The rest just has to come off when it's ready. And weighing every day makes one frustrated.. like me!! Soooooooooo now it will be Wednesday and Sunday weigh ins. I gotta have DH hide the scales for me.. I haven't had a BM for 4 days and she said wait til Monday and if I haven't had one by then to call and they'd get me something to speed up the process. I take Fibersure every day and don't feel uncomfortable or bloated sooooooo will just wait on that.

No, no calorie recommendation. Just a list of what I could have. I have 3 yogurts a day for 300 calories and 15 protein. Then I have Crystal Light, broth and a treat of light juice. That's it. I'm not even sure that adds up to 500 calories by day's end. But that's what's on the list. I asked my nutritionist about the protein and she said that was sufficient for the first month. They've been doing this for awhile so I listen to them.. but it sure is different than other post op diets I've read. I'm not hungry after I have my liquids.. but sure wish I could lose a little weight again here!

I'm still on liquids and that's all the calories I can get out of the stuff I eat!! I've put in a call to the lap band center so hopefully I can get an answer soon.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Ok.. so here's my problem. I'm sticking to the diet to the letter. I figure I have about 500 calories a day. I know I shouldn't weigh every day, but I do cause it was just falling off right after surgery... BUT I have lost nothing in the last 4 days. It's been 10 days since surgery and I've lost 10#, but that was all in the first 6 days. Anyone else have this problem??? I'm not about to give in to frustration, but it's disheartening knowing you have done your best with eating and it doesn't show up on the scale. I'm not gaining and that's fine, but how the heck COULD I gain on what I'm eating??? Judy

    Getting my life back

Well, I sometimes hate to admit it, but for me it was... pardon the expression.. a piece of cake! I had no pre-op diet except doc wanted me to lose a few pounds to shrink the liver. I opted for a low carb/ high protein diet for a week before surgery. Then liquids the day before and it's been clear liquids and yogurt ever since. I have one more week on clear liquids.. then all liquids.. then mushie food and then regular food. I had no pain to speak of afterwards. Just a little pulling in the incision area... and NONE of the gas pain everyone talks about. Don't know why I was spared, but I'm very thankful. For me it was just a very easy surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Port Huron is a wonderful hospital with great staff and my doctor is one of the finest in the state for Lap band surgery. He has done over 700 of them so far. The liquid diet is not really that bad. With broth, sf jello, yogurt, sf popsicles and juice there is enough variety for the day. I take a chewable vitamin... Viactiv chocolate cherry and it's my little chewing treat each morning. Hope all goes well for you!!! Judy

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

Jenn.. I feel great today. Another steri-stip came off today so I have 2 incisions uncovered and 3 covered yet. Will be glad when the itchies are done. I'm able to sleep on my side and my tummy. I'm sitting here with my second yogurt of the day. I haven't lost anything in the last couple of days, but I've done the diet by the book, so hopefully some more will come off soon. I never got swollen and I am noticing my clothes fitting looser now. It's not uncomfortable to wear all my undies again. The first week I camped out in my nightgown and nothing else. Now I can dress for the day and yesterday was my first day back to my routine. I did an hour of volunteer work at the hospital, had a 2 hour flute rehearsal, did some work at the church for an hour or two, came home and did some work on the computer and then went to choir rehearsal from 6-7. Went out for dinner afterwards... I had broth. And then home to watch tv. I got to bed about 11:30 and slept like a log until this morning at 8. I feel 100% normal and am just waiting to get out of the clear liquid phase and into the "all" liquids.(5 more days!!) In a nutshell I can say that this experience has been all good so far and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Judy

  23. Although I was thinking nasty thoughts in my head last night and this morning when things were not working in here.. I just want to say thank you, thank you.. THANK YOU for keeping this site online. It's been soooooooo awesome in it's information and support. It's one of the best resources for us bandsters!!! I don't mind the ads at all if it will help keep this site online.

Dave.. no restriction here, but that is normal. The band should be empty while the stomach heals from the surgery. You will feel restricition at your first fill.. or so I'm told in my research. I had my surgery on 4/10 and will not have my first fill until 8 weeks out. I still have three more weeks of liquids before I can even think about mushie food. And believe me, I'm looking forward to the mushies. I'm doing it by the book and will not do anything to jeopardize all I went through to get this band. I'm workin' the tool baby!!
