I've lived on yogurt, broth, Crystal Light and sf jello for two weeks now. Just this past Wednesday I added creamy soups and lo fat pudding. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven.. You'll make it through the post op weeks just fine. I didn't have to do a pre op liquid diet. Thank goodness!! Good luck to you on your journey into Bandland!! Judy -
Perhaps I should clarify. It would not be a total unfill. Just a little out to make it easier to eat. You STILL have to make wise choices though!!!

When I went to my seminar they talked about this and said it was very doable. The doc had no problems doing this.

Good Morning All.. I am with you on the weight loss. I was weighing myself every day and rejoicing that the scale was going down every day. The first week. Then ...poof.... nothing, nothing, nothing. Stayed the same every day even though I was sticking to the food plan. Sooooooooo after talking to the nurse she said.. HIDE those scales. You should only be weighing in once or twice a week at the most. So DH hid them and I'm only weighing in on Sundays now. We'll see how it goes. But I'm not thinking about how many pounds I'm losing now. I'm focusing on sticking to the diet and getting the exercise in. Hopefully I'll be pleased with the weigh in, but even if I don't lose I know I will not gain. And after the fill is when the real weight loss will start. I'm confident of that. I feel good knowing I have done something just for me that is going to help me get healthy and slimmer. We all should be proud of that!!:clap2: Everyone have a great day!! Oh.. forgot.. We went out to dinner last night as is our custom after choir on Wednesdays. We go with another couple and they all had their salads, their shrimp and steak and potatoes and veggies and I had............ broth!! And enjoyed it. It filled me up and I stretched it out to last as long as their dinners did. I know now I can do this!!! -

Congrats on the surgery Anne!!! I haven't heard about Dr. Bhesania or Dr. Boutt being trained by Dr. Ortiz. Doesn't say anything about it on their web site. -

We went to the Seminar Jan. 27. Met with the doc and nutritionist on March 15. Surgery was scheduled for April 10th at that time. It could have been sooner, but Easter was coming and I had too many committments at church. I had all my paperwork done and testing done so there was no wait for approval. If you meet the criteria and your insurance pays for it, why would you need approval before the surgery?? -
I knew I would never consider bypass surgery. No way do I want to be cut up and reattached and then have all that vitamin stuff to figure out. I KNEW the lap band was for me and I'm so thankful I have that tool inside me now. Knowing that it is adjustable and reversible is a big selling feature for me.

Good luck on your job interview!! Did you not get information from your doctor or nutritionist on what you were allowed to eat?? I have everything printed out for me so I can refer to it for all the different stages post op. -
Josette.. I was back to my room after recovery and really groggy.. but went by wheelchair to get the barium swallow and then walked back to the room. I was really sleepy the first day, but was walking round and round and round the nurse's station by evening. By the next morning I was antsy to get out of there after the sleepless night with my roommate tossing and turning. But funny thing is, I never saw Dr. Bhesania after the surgery. I thought that was kinda strange, but he did well on the surgery so that's what I really cared about. DH was there with me a lot and that was kewl. Though I told him he could leave the first day as I was sleeping A LOT! Apparently I told him he could go get a set of golf clubs too.. or at least that's what he tells me. :blah: Guess I should listen better next time!! (or he knows how to take advantage of the moment!! )

James.. The letter from your PCP should indicate that the surgery is medically necessary. That will satisfy the insurance co. -

BC/BS MESSA is one of the best for approval. They don't require the 12 month supervised diet and no psych eval. As long as you have all your ducks in a row and you meet the age and BMI requirements, you are good to go. I have the retired teacher's BCBS PPO and didn't have to wait for approval. I turned my stuff in and they scheduled my appointment. Hubby didn't fit the criteria so he has to have a pre-auth. That takes weeks and weeks. But you should be all set. Good luck to you!!! -

So today is the day I start on my full liquids. I was planning on a soup at hand can of soup, a little snack pack container of the lo fat pudding and a snack pack container of applesauce for lunch. Then I looked at my diet sheet and it said.. "4-8oz. total". Whaaaaa?? NO way was I going to feel full on half a can of soup, half a container of lo fat pudding and half a container of applesauce. WELL... I ate half the can of soup, and half the pudding and couldn't do anymore. I was stuffed. If I ever had any doubts that they forgot to put the band in, those doubts are totally gone now. This is amazing!!! -
I was discharged as soon as the doc saw that all my vitals were normal and I wasn't complaining of any pain. I could have gone home sooner, but was waiting for the doc to see me. Apparently he doesn't do that. He just checks the nurse's stats and then says yes or no on going home. I had no pain and was ready to leave by 9, but didn't ask to go until 10 cause I was waitin' on the doc. .grrrrrrr I'm sitting here eating my creamy soup for the first time and it's heaven!! Going to have a lo fat pudding and some applesauce next. Things are getting back to semi-normal, thank goodness! Though I really can't complain. I haven't been staving hungry since the surgery. Head hunger a few times, but no physical hunger at all.

You KNOW everyone will have you on their minds on the 26th, Tracy!!! You will be well represented in prayers and thoughts!!! Have a great day! I'm off to do some raking and celebrate the fact that I can have a creamy soup and pureed fruit for lunch today. woooooo hooooooooo:clap2: -
I went into the psych eval with my homework done and my determination in place. I knew the risks, the complications, how the surgery was done, what my life change would have to be, why I wanted it and I went in strong. He kept trying to talk me out of it, but I wouldn't budge and told him I wouldn't. We talked for half an hour and then he said I was good to go. My DSIL is a PA and the psych sees him every week when he goes to visit patients in the nursing home. The Psych asked my DSIL how my surgery went and then said he tried everything to talk me out of it, but I was determined!! He knew it was something I really, really wanted.

Here ya go.. Might want to delete your previous post as it stretches out the posting box.. -
I was told to be at the hospital at 8:30. We got to Port Huron a day early (Monday) and spent the night at the Comfort Inn. Got to the hospital, got prepped and then waited and waited and waited. They were behind and I didn't get into surgery until 10:45. I was back in recovery by noon and back to my room by 1. DH spent the night at the hotel and we left the day after surgery at 10:30 a.m. My roommate in the hospital was a huge lady.. well over 400# I'm guessing and she had broken her leg. She was uncomfortable all night long. They had to have 3 nurses and her daughter to help move her in the bed. I swore then that the lap band was the best thing I could do for myself as I NEVER wanted to be like she was.
