Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Oh my gosh.. hard to believe tomorrow is November!!! Time for a new exercise challenge. I made my October challenge with a few extras too boot. November shouldn't be too hard to start as we are going to use the gym on the ship at least once a day if not two. That plus walking everywhere should be beneficial for both of us. The Bobster had some troubles getting his pills down today so we know the band is working. He just needs a little more fill to get to his sweet spot. I couldn't eat eggs for breakfast and ended up having half a yogurt. I tried to share a banana with Ethan, but that got stuck too. We'll see how lunch goes. They are having turkey, mashed potatoes and squash. I'll have tuna salad, squash and a tomato. Enough about food!!! Bob, Ethan and I are going to go out and rake leaves today. There are a ton! We'll burn them today cause it's supposed to rain tonight. I'd like to get it done before we leave on Saturday. Everyone have a fun afternoon!! :bat::Banane18::rip::rip::bat::bat: -

Good for you, Janie!!! We just have to remember.. everything in moderation. If we deny ourselves sweets, then we will crave them and end up binging. An occasional sweet isn't going to ruin the weight loss. Just make sure you're getting your exercise! I get compliments on my bracelet all the time. I just LOVE it!! -

Good morning Violets.. It's 5:44 and I'm up and dressed already. Got my Halloween sweatshirt on and ready to face the day.. yawwwwwwwwwnnnnnn!! Ethan should be here soon and I'll be fixing him scrambled eggs with cheese. I'll try and eat some of it, but I'm usually too tight in the mornings for solid food. I'll have my yogurt ready, justincase. Denise.. thanks for the compliments. When I look at my pics month to month, it's hard to see the difference, but putting the beginning with the October ones, I too am amazed!! It's 52 degrees here right now so looks to be a nice, fall day in the making. Hope it doesn't rain for the kids tonight. I sure do remember the days of teaching when the kids were hyper on Halloween day and super hyper the days after as they were loaded up on a sugar high. That part I don't miss!! Pamela...unreal about the costumes. When I was 12, I would never have thought about dressing that way. Not even when I was in high school!!! I saw through my teaching career the way kids were changing and it was so sad. You wouldn't believe what they knew and did even in Kindergarten. Course you have to look at their parents who are supposed to be the role models. Very, very sad. Time to go fix eggs for my little guy. Will check back later. TTFN... -

Good evening, Violets.. Rehearsal went well and we just got in from the hot tub. Sooooooooo relaxing at the end of the day. Ethan is coming over at 6:15 a.m. so I have to be up and ready I have my alarm set for 5:30. Gonna be a long day, but it's worth it to have him here with me. Terry.. glad to hear your mom is doing better. My dad had congestive heart failure and he was in hospice for a couple of years. They really helped with getting someone to come and bathe him and help with his meds. Towards the end we had aides coming in to spend the night with him. My dad and mom were both deaf so it was really hard for us to leave them alone without a means of communicating with us. We used the fax machine for years and years. I never could just pick up the phone and talk with them. We finally put dad in a care home and he was there 10 days before he passed away. It was a long journey for all of us, but we are content knowing we did everything we possibly could to make his last days comfortable. I kept telling my kids.. "watch how we take care of Grandma and Grandpa cause I want you to do the same thing for me!!" Well, I better get to bed so I can be up at the crack of dawn! Everyone sleep well!! Patience, Trust and WWJD! -
How will I know if something gets stuck

Well, we did the great experiment at lunch today. Bob got a hamburger and cup of chili from Wendys. It went down slick as a whistle.. no problems. I told him to call and let them know and then POW.. everything stuck. Seems strange to say I'm really happy about it, but at least we know the band is working. It just isn't at the right restriction yet. I think if he had gotten 3cc yesterday he would have been much better off. So it's back to watching what he eats and making sure he doesn't eat too fast. My lunch, tuna salad, tomato and red pepper got stuck, but after barfing up the slime, it was fine. I just ate really slow and really small bites. I'm filled up on 2/3 cup tuna, one small tomato and 1/8 of a red pepper. Hope the full feeling lasts until supper. Then I'll KNOW I'm at the sweet spot for now. Off to Penneys to look for some new earrings and then to the book store to get Celebrity Detox by Rosie. Love that lady! TTFN Kat.. sorry to hear Kinsey is not feeling well again. It's a blessing to have you there to be able to help take care of her. Today is my day without Ethan and I miss him!! -

Finished typing the minutes for the meeting and here I am... still at the computer. Haydee.. the Bobster just ate his cereal and banana for breakfast and no restriction. Unfortunately we are 4 hours from our Doc so we won't be going back til after the cruise. But I think I might call and see what the nurse says. The doc does not use fluro, but maybe with Bob's next one he will. And who knows.. maybe in a day or two it will be different. I just know I'm going to have to really help him monitor what he's eating and how much. He says he will NOT go in for any more surgery so hopefully this is something that can be fixed just with more fill. We have a leather couch and chair and our dogs get up on them all the time, but then again they are 5# and 11# yorkies so not much damage with their tiny nails. Sure is a cold morning here. It's only 35 right now. I wanted to get out in the yard and start the fall trimming on the plants, but not until the sun comes out and warms it up a bit more. Maybe by this afternoon. One last comment about our fills. Our doc does not use fluro, nor a numbing shot. The fills are quick and painless. No prodding at all. He hits the spot every time. I have had no problems with the fills. I just hope we can get Bob to where he needs to be. Our next appointment is the 26th, so we have Thanksgiving to get through... arghhhhhhhhh This is where the teamwork comes in. I'll be watching him and he'll be watching me. Now if we can just refrain from being each other's enablers, we'll be fine!! There.. I've posted a book too.. NOW I'm really leaving to get some work done. TTFN! -

Good Morning, Violets.. We got back from the docs late, late last night. course we stopped at the outlet mall on the way home. Got a snowsuit and a couple of outfits for granddaughter Amelia (11 months old). She is being baptized on the 18th of Nov. and we're going down to be there. They are 7 hours away so it makes for a longggggggg trip, but worth it to see the grandkids. When my DDIL finishes nursing school they will be looking to move somewhere closer to us and that will be wonderful! Well, I had lost 4# last month according to the doc's scales and I got a little fill before the cruise. .5cc so now I have 3cc in my 4cc band. The Bobster gained a pound so he got 2cc in his 10cc band. I thought this would really help, but he said last night his meds went right down.. even the big ones. Instead of a soup dinner last night we decided to just stop at Mickey D's and get a chocolate shake. I could only finish half of my medium, but he finished all of his large and could have finished mine if I had offered it to him. We'll see how things go for him this morning. We won't change anything before the cruise, but we will have to check into what's happening at our next appointment if the restriction isn't there. My yogurt is really filling me up this morning for the first time. I can feel it slide down so hopefully I will have come closer to my sweet spot. I want another angel for my bracelet!!! Today is a lazy day. Just going to type up some minutes for a meeting and then clean house all day. We want it spic and span when we come back from the cruise. I have a rehearsal tonight, but it's a fun one and then will watch and see who gets booted from Dancing with the Stars. Terry.. hope things are better for you today. I understand what you are going through with your mom. We were the only caregivers for my mom and dad before they passed away and it is a tremendous responsibility making all the right decisions, etc. Hugs to you during this time. We're all ready for Halloween here. The last few years we haven't had hardly any kids. We used to get up to 120 and last year it was 30. We had tons of candy left over that our DS took off our hands. I bought candy we didn't like this year and put it into individual bags and stapled them so we wouldn't be tempted at all. Course the mini tootsie rolls seemed to kinda jump out when I was bagging everything. yums. The Bobster got a new sportcoat and pants yesterday, plus some new running shoes... for walking.. lol I tried on jeans til I was exhausted. Got one pair of Lees size 16. They were the only ones that were close to being slim enough for my legs, yet stretchy enough to go around my belly. I never understood why my daughter was so picky about her jeans and now I do!! Sooooooo different from wearing the K-Mart Chic elastic waist brand!! Well, better get busy or I'll be at the computer all day!! Everyone have a good one! Patience, Trust and WWJD??!! -
Hey.. Karla!!! Great to see you finally got on the site. When I told everyone about it at the support meeting and then went on it later Saturday and it was down for the day, I was really disappointed. I hoped everyone that tried the site would realize I didn't give a bad url!!! Have you checked the Before and After thread under General Discussion?? I just posted some pics there yesterday. See ya on the 24th!!

Good Morning, Violets.. We are up bright and early to head downstate 4 hours to get our fills. We're going to stop at the outlet mall on the way home so it will be late, late, late, before we get back home. Thought I'd post my 6 month progress. I posted it on the before and after thread even though I'm not at the "after" point yet. I take pictures once a month and month to month I don't see a whole lot of difference, but when I put the beginning pics with the 6 months ones.. I see a BIG difference and it gets me motivated once again. Everyone have a great day.. Catch you all tomorrow. Patience, Trust and WWJD!! -

Evening, Violets.. Pamela.. our cruise is exactly one week from Sunday. We will leave here on the 3rd, fly into Ft. Lauderdale on the 4th and leave on the cruise on the 5th. It's only a 5 nighter so we'll be back on the 10th. Can't wait to get some warm sun. Yeppers.. I'm always cold now too! I used to have the house at 64 during the day and 60 at night, but now it's 68 during the day and 65 at night. Guess I'll have to invest in some more thrift shop sweaters. I was going to go out to the hot tub tonight, but it's pouring down rain, so that cancels that. I couldn't figure out why my stomach feels so tight and sore. But when I'm in the hot tub I do several exercises.. leg stuff, arm stuff and then I pull my lower body up and hold it for 10 seconds.. I do that 15 times. It's like a prolonged ab crunch. Sure can feel it! Tomorrow we have breakfast with our cruising friends and then we head to the church for our very first Lap Band support group that I decided to form. We have 7 people signed up to be there. Hope it works out. I had a LOT of compliments today at church when I was working there. Guess it's really starting to show. Now if I can just get that scale number to start going down again like it was before, I'll be happier. Laura.. I'll skip the sexy101 class too. There's still life in this old, minister's wife.. :car: Everyone sleep well..... Patience, Trust and WWJD??!! -

A place for bandsters in their 60's
Teachlady replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, everyone. I just found this thread and decided to introduce myself. I'm Judy and had my surgery April 10. 2007. I have lost 54# so far and have reached a plateau. It's been tough to lose anything the last 3 months. My DH had the surgery May 22 and he's lost 45#. We go in for our 4th fill Monday and hopefully we'll find that sweet spot. We exercise and eat what we are supposed to, but lately it's been frustrating with the weight not coming off. We leave for a cruise on the 4th of Nov. and hope the new fill will help us not to graze constantly! We have been on a cruise since having the lap band and it wasn't pretty! I gained 6# and DH gained 7#. Now here a month and a half later, I'm back to where I was before the last cruise. We didn't get a fill before the last one so hopefully this one will make a difference. Anyway... glad to meet everyone. I turned 60 in June and DH turned 62 in May. We are both retired and loving it!! AND loving the band too!!! -

Michelle.. you look fantastic!! Congrats on such a great job!!! It seems like everyone is surpassing me in the weight loss now so I'm ready to relinquish my cheerleader crown to all the rest of you. Wow.. everyone is approaching -60# or past that! I'm still working on getting to -55#!! I've really hit a plateau, but I'm not going to fret about it. I'm wearing sizes I have not worn in years and years and years and I'm doing what I'm supposed to do as far as eating and exercising. Note that I made my exercise challenge and I still have 5 days left in October! We go for a fill on Monday and hopefully that will help. Just gotta keep focused, have patience and trust.. right?? RIGHT??? It's fun to go back to some of our original posts in this thread and others and see where we were frustrated and didn't think this was going to work and look at all of us now!! EVERYONE has done an amazing job and we are at places we never thought we'd be at this point in our lives. Ethan arrives in a few hours for the afternoon and I'm packing for our cruise. It's so exciting to have so many choices for clothes now!! And the clothes I wore to Florida back in August are hanging on me now, but I'll wear them and be proud! Certainly not buying any more summer clothes cause next summer I will be smaller yet. (see that positive mind set??)!! Everyone have a great day.. TGIF!! (course everyday is a Friday, Saturday or Sunday for us retired folk) Patience, trust and WWJD??!! -

Afternoon Violets.. It's a beautiful fall day here today. Temp is 48 and sun is shining. I got my nails done this morning, then went out for soup and sandwich with my daughter. Then we went to a second hand shop and I bought 2 sweaters for $2.75 each! One is an Alfred Dunner. And the best news is they are a size LARGE.. NOT XL!! Woo hooooo! I'm off to practice flute for a performance tonight at the library. We are the warm up music for a book review. And for once I don't have to fret about what I'm going to wear and how heavy I'm going to look. Everyone have a great afternoon!! -

Evening Violets!! It's 37 degrees here right now and I'm headed out to the hot tub. Gonna feel great tonight! Pamela.. you luuuk mahhvelous!! And the area behind your desk reminds me of what mine used to look like!! Brings back memories... Kat.. We're all so glad the cancer is easily treatable. We'll all be right there holding your hand when you go in for surgery. You'll be able to feel that Purple Power for sure! And as for the colonoscopy... piece 'a cake! The procedure is a lot less stressful than the preparation! I watched mine on the monitor and it was fascinating. Like I was watching the Discovery channel only it was ME! Everyone have a good sleep tonight.. catch you in the morning!! Hope we hear from Amanda soon!!!! Patience, Trust and WWJD??!!
