Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Jane.... CPAP, SCHMEEPAP... you are in the majority of people, I'm sure. I have lived with the sound of the Bobster's CPAP for over 10 years now. It's really NOT a biggie. When we go to Florida we will be staying with a couple who BOTH have CPAPs. I'll be the only one without! well, dinner was great tonight. Because we were only getting one meal we splurged and got the filet mignon. We split it in half, Bobster got the soup and we split the baked potato.. I only ate a few bites of the potato and a spoonful of his soup, plus half the filet. It was sooooooooo yummy and both of us were full. My only downfall was eating 6 of the little m&m type mints they gave us at the end of the meal. I swore I wasn't going to eat anymore sugar, but they just popped into my mouth!! But I did get all my water in today and made 99.999% wise food choices. There was really no time to exercise today so I'll have to hit that hard tomorrow. Staff meeting in the morning and then the day is mine. It's 44 degrees right now.. must be our January thaw. The snow is melting away by the buckets. Everyone have a great night. sleep well and remember. tomorrow is a new day and a new week. Nighters!! -

Welllllllllllll that'll teach me to mention a bathing suit late at night!! Sorry about the dream, Laura! I just hope I was near a swimming pool and not just strolling through the lobby.. yikes!! TRACYK!!! I would love for you to get the job, but you cannot miss our get together!!!!!!!!!!! You are just gonna have to call in sick for those days and then haul your skinny little legs to the meeting place!!!!! Denise.. soooooooo sorry you won't be joining us, but I do understand about the babies! That's something you definitely don't want to miss. I'll bring along the Bobster's flip video cam and take lots of pics so you can see all of us.. (plus it will be good for blackmailings later on.. la la la la) As you can tell, I'm back from my singing rehearsal. Had a cup of Soup and a couple of bites from the Bobster's meal after church today. That means I get to pick the meal for dinner tonight. I did fine except for the slice of an orange they give you at the end of the meal with the fortune cookie. I ate the orange slice and it just didn't want to go down. I ended up in the bathroom again. This band is certainly working. And now so is my head, thank goodness. I am no longer eating just to eat. I know better when I'm hungry and am making better choices. Just hoping this lasts for a long time I don't want another meltdown like the last couple of weeks. Well, I've finished my first 33.8 oz. of Water and will put the next one in the freezer and head to dinner. Will catch up later tonight. TTFN........ -

"If you want to accomplish anything in life, you can't just sit back and hope it will happen. You've got to make it happen." ---Chuck Norris Good Morning, Violets!! I weighed in today and am 3 oz. away from an angel. The good news is that in one week I lost the 6# I had gained. I am back on track and feeling soooo much better. The bad news is I'll be stepping on those dang scales every day hoping those 3 oz are finally gone. It will be this week sometime for sure!! Today I head to church with the Bobster for the first time in ages. He pastors a little church 40 miles from here and I still am choir director at our home church where he pastored for 19 years before retirement. The little church has hired another part time pastor who will eventually take over from Bob so he can be officially retired. I don't have choir today so we can sit together !! Wooo hooooo. I can tell you that in 38 years of marriage, we have not sat together at a regular church service more than a couple of times. We'll go out to lunch afterwards and then I have a 1-4 singing rehearsal this afternoon. Then dinner out with the pastor of our church here. He treats his staff to dinner as his Christmas gift to us. It will be Bob's turn to pick a meal so we'll see what he chooses. My goodness, you ladies were late evening/early morning talkers today!! I got to bed by midnight, but tossed and turned all night. I dreamed I had a consultation on a breast lift. The doc showed me how it would look by sticking some glue on one breast and hoisting it up. It looked darn good.. lol If only that's the way they could do it.. no stitches, no needles, just glue! Pamela.. pics were great!! You both look so happy. Jennifer.. sorry about all the court stuff. Hope it works out ok for you. TracyinKS.. glad you are able to eat more than soup without pbing. I had some venison sausage while ice fishing last night and I left 3 deposits in the snow.. yuck. Then we had walleye and perch for dinner. I split with Bob and of course I was the one heading towards the bathroom. DD Kristin says to her MIL.. not to worry.. it's becoming a regular occurance lately. Lovely. But then again I'd rather do an occasional PB, than be overweight like her MIL. I know she would love the band too, but their insurance won't cover it and they could never afford self pay. I just feel so blessed that we were able to do this for ourselves. Terry.. the necklace is adorable!! such a beautiful reminder of your friendships! And don't ever be hesitant about posting pics. I LOVE seeing them! Kat...sounds like you had a great time at the party aside from the movie stuff. Wish you could send us a pic of you in your party outfit! Well, I better go get dressed for church and figure out what is for breakfast. Not much goes down in the mornings, so I think I'll have some yogurt. Everyone have a great day. TTFN........ -

Darn... my boys didn't win. they lost by 5 points. They had a fantastic first quarter, but couldn't sustain it through all 4 quarters. sighhhhhhh Oh well, at least it's not the playoffs. I had a NSV tonight. I found one of my daughter's bathing suits she had left here a couple of years ago when she used our pool. I thought I'd try it on just for kicks. Well.. it's not real attractive, but it fits!!! I can't tell her though cause she is not able to fit in it anymore. I know I weigh less than she does and that's the first time in my life that has happened, but I'd never tell her that either. All in all, it's been a good day in spite of no fish and no win! Everyone sleep well!! -

TRACY!!!!! WELCOME TO ONEDERLAND!!! You're gonna love it here! and I agree.. put the scale away for a couple of weeks. You made it and you're here to stay! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! We went ice fishing today after Ethan left. No luck, not even a bite, but I got lots of fresh air and got a nice longggggggggg walk halfway across the lake and back. We're going to watch the Pistons on tv. they are playing the #1 Western Conference team.. Boston Celtics. Keep your fingers crossed for a win for my boys!! TTFN........... -

Smyly... first of all my condolances on your Grandfather's passing. Next up... you have done a super job.. look at how much you have lost!!! We all have... ahem... negative moments. Just check back a few posts and you'll see mine. It happens.. you learn and you keep moving forward. I go in for a fill once a month. There has only been once when I didn't think I needed one, but by the next month, I sure did. I don't think I will get one this month because I feel good restriction and I'm losing weight again. I just had to get my head in the right place. Luckily these Violet Sistas put it back on straight for me. Hopefully we'll do the same for you. Fills are really important. When you need one, you need one! And when you think you've lost it, it's probably because your stomach shrinks when you lose weight and that makes the band looser. At least thats what my Doctor says. Once you hit your sweet spot, you'll not need fills as often. I've had 4 so far and know I will probably get a 5th.. (hmmmmmmm that doesn't sound right!!) before this journey is over. So hold your head up high, be proud, be Purple and make good food choices!! (this is as much for me as it is for you!! Typing the words gives me confidence too!) P.S. I make a 4 hour one way trip to the doctor once a month whether I need a fill or not. He and I discuss how I'm doing and mutually decide what route would be best. He's just great and the staff is equally as wonderful. The drive is well worth it for the Bobster and me. -

Good Morning, Violets. Ethan is here until 1 so that about takes care of today! We were ging to go ice fishing later this morning, but DS called and wanted to know if we could babysit. Like we'd ever say no!! Yesterday I got all the choir music set for the next two months. Then we went out to dinner at a chinese place. Note to self... buffets are a waste of money for me. The waitress said... "you no eat much?" Nope.. just a little of this and that and it amounted to about a cup. The bobster finished a whole plate. he definitely needs a fill!! I got all my water in yesterday plus one glass. I LOVE my Crystal Light slushies!! We went out to see National Treasure. Cute movie. Highly unbelievable, but cute anyway. This afternoon will be laundry. Tomorrow I have a singing rehearsal from 1-4 and then our pastor is taking the staff out for Epiphany dinner. The bobster and I will definitely split a meal. I've been perfect in eating habits for 4 days now. So glad to be back in the bandster groove. I'll weigh in tomorrow to see how it's working. Michelle... let us know when you need the money for the trip in May. The bobster is excited about taking his sons to Gettysburg. I'll need to know details on where we meet and when so he can drop me off and continue on his adventure. This is gonna be so much fun!!! I'm off to entertain Ethan and do some laundry. Everyone have a great day!! -
is there anyone who has no restrictions before surgery?
Teachlady replied to ch4251's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said to lose some weight before surgery, but he didn't stipulate how to do it. I followed a low carb, high protein plan, dropped a few pounds and was good to go. Surgery was a breeze and I've been doing well ever since. -

Good morning, Violets. Feeling better this morning. 3 days of responsible eating and lots of water and the scale is finally moving. Now to get out of the habit of weighing every day!! Tonight the Bobster and I are going to the movies to see National Treasure and then out to dinner. It's his turn to pick the place and the meal. We split our dinner so we're a pretty cheap date for each other. I have to do some errands today. Got to send back a QVC ring I bought. It just didn't look right. I wanted something to go with the ring I got from Bob. I picked out a diamonique eternity band, but it was too narrow, so it's back to the drawing board. Pamela.... halfway through the Simpsons.. what a hoot!! Gotta run.. everyone have a great day!! -

Ok, Ok, OK!!! I think you all rallied me out of the funk I was in. I rode the bike for 10 mintues and did the glider for 10 minutes and will do my toning exercises in the hot tub tonight so that will make my 30 minutes for the day. I am on my 10th glass of crystal light and I did not eat any sugar today. Actually didn't eat anything I shouldn't have. When I got hungry I nibbled on a piece of cheese and had a yogurt. I have a new resolve and I think I'm back on track. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU all. You're super Violet Vigilanties when the going gets tough. We got our new little fireplace today and it looks perfect in the living room. Now we can bask in the glow of the sterno fire from the fake logs.... nothing but the best for this family!! I'm going to watch some more of the Iowa results and then hit the hot tub. Everyone have a great evening and THANK YOU again from the bottom of my heart. You're the best!! -

Thanks ladies.. I've been absolutely legal yesterday and today so we'll see what happens. I'm on my 4th glass of Crystal Light and will probably finish 6 before supper. I've always been good about drinking water since I got the band. We got the elliptical set up, but something is wrong with the handlebars. I just got off the phone with Nordic Track and they are sending some new parts to see if that fixes the problem. If not, I don't know what we'll do. The handlebars keep shifting to the left and right when we try and use it. But I have my new recumbent bike and my glider in the guest room so I'll be doing those two things at least. It's darn cold here now. It was 4 when I got up this morning and it's 21 right now. Sure makes getting into the hot tub and mad dash. But at least getting out isn't a problem cause the 103 degrees doesn't wear off before I get back in the house. Ethan is here and he's taking a nap now. I got all of the Christmas stuff down and packed in tubs today. Just have to clean out the christmas closet so we can put everything away out of sight. We bought tons of lights for next year and some ornaments and stockings... all at 75% off. Can't beat that. My friend in Florida who had the bypass knew that was right for her because she said she could easily eat around the band. She really needed to lose fast for health reasons. No way was I in as desperate a state as she was. I knew I never wanted the bypass so I'll live with my decision knowing it was the best for me. I had so hoped to get down to -60 by Christmas.... and then New Years... and now it's farther off again. I'll just have to keep plugging away and hope someday to be able to put the new angel on my bracelet. I really have to get back to WWJD cause that wasn't happening. Old habits are hard to break and head hunger is the worst of them. The Bobster is not doing so well either, but I know he needs a fill. I know I don't. I just need to quit the sugary things that go down easily. When I eat the good stuff, it goes down slowly and I know the band is doing it's job. Now I have to do mine. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.. does this sound like a sermon or what??? Panda.. so happy for your wonderful news. Remember... he/she will have lots of Purple Aunties!! I'm waiting for our new fireplace to arrive today. It's out for delivery. It's just a free standing one from QVC, but it should add a nice feel to my little living room. TTFN........ -

Good Morning, Violets.. Thanks for the concern and the phone call. I've been dealing with a couple of issues here and just haven't been up to posting. I read all the posts and keep up. I did not lose the 1# by New Years. I gained 6# and was feeling like a failure. You all hav surpassed me in weight loss and it was very discouraging. I got an email from a lady in Michigan last night. She was banded a month before me and she is at goal. -80# already. I've been up and down with 6 pounds for months now. I was very religious (no pun intended) about what I ate yesterday, went to Curves, took a water pill and I lost 3 of the 6, but still far from where I had intended to be. The other issue is DD trying to get pregnant. She has been trying for 6 months and is very discouraged as well. It seems everyone around her is pregnant or has a child already. I feel so bad for her. I know it will happen one day, but just like the weight loss, it is very discouraging. I'm trying to do my best to stay upbeat, but it's difficult right now. Again thanks for your concern. It means a lot to me. I'll try and post more, but don't be surprised if I go a couple of days inbetween, k? p.s. When we go to Florida in a couple of weeks, we'll be staying with friends and she had the gastric bypass and has lost well over 100# in a year. Of course she asks how I am doing and I'm tired of saying...slow but sure. -

Has anyone had Dr. David Kam as their Surgeon?
Teachlady replied to BlessedTwice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Karla, from my lap band support group, goes to Dr. Kam. She is getting a fill this month, hasn't had one since October because of his move. But he's in Traverse City now, doing lap band surgery and fills. She swears by him! -
