Got Stuck Tonight-Again
steph1967 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds to me like you may need to have a little removed. With the band just because it will hold so many CC does not mean it only works if that many are in there it is where you feel resctriction and can go 4-6 hours without hunger pain. I have a 7 cc band and I have 2 CC in and if I have more put in I will get stuck also sometimes I have to have it taken down to 1 CC or I have problems it is not how many CC are in the band it is how and what you eat.You should go to your appt and talk with your dr about the stuck problem because I am sure he will not put more my guess is he will ask you if you want to wait or take some out. I have been banded for 4 years and I see my dr every 2-3 months still just to keep on track and to adjust to what feels comfortable to me. -
Why All The Waiting?!?
steph1967 replied to audreycat123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your dr may have gave you that time frame. But by making you have the waiting period my guess is he is trying to make sure you have time to think about the decisions you are making.everyone is different some people lose quickly and some don't and you have no way of knowing. If you have the sugery and only lose 10-20 lbs in the 6 months then you really defeated the purpose of getting the band cause with pregnancy you will gain that plus some and then will you still have the mind set of going back to the lap band lifestyle after the baby? The band is a tool it is still a mindset of habits having a band doesn't mean instant weight loss. It just assists in the process of weightloss. You have to make the right choice for you maybe having a baby first then doing the lap band might be a better option then you may decide that having a healthier lifestyle for you and your child is the better way to go -
Like most others I did not tell anyone I took off 3 days for personal reasons and had 2 days for the weekend and so when I returned on monday I was feeling pretty good. It wasn't until a month or 2 later everyone noticed I was losing that I finally told them everyone was shocked that they didn't know or I didn't say anything but like you said it is nobodys business unless you want it to be.

I am 4 yrs post op and about at the 3 year mark I have that problem also. I get a fill and about 2 months later it seems to tight like you can't eat or drink much or it comes up at that point I go in he removes the fill and I go a month and have it put back in. My dr has checked for slip and nothing so I just go with it.everyone reacts different with the band so I just have mine adjusted accordingly and it works for me. I have been able to lose and maintain well for 4 years by visiting my dr regularly.

What Does Getting Stuck Feel Like?
steph1967 replied to thunderbeast77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes that is what it is to get stuck. Eating to fast as you said will do that. I myself never drink if I feel stuck it will come back up on its own but everyone has different methods. My dr has strict rules on drinking before of after meals stuck or not and also my dr says no carbonated beverages ever but each dr is different so check with yours to see what he reccomends if that ever happens again. -
That's awesome congrats to you. I to was 385 when I started I am now 150.I have maintained it for 4 years and agree protien, regular visits to dr and weight loss center, and vitamins is key to success. Its a wonderful feeling to see the weight gone. Your doing wonderful..and it only gets better...

I also agree with elcee, bands usually don't slip that easy and cause that major of an issue. They are meant to be maintained and usually show signs if they are slipping. I had my band put in 2008 and still go every 3 months just to make sure I am on track and everything is working as it should. I was in a major car accident in june flipping my SUV four times and my port was very sore and was having problems eating so I made an appointment the moment I returned from my vacation and my dr chose to remove my fluid and let things settle for a month then refilled and I am doing well. So making sure you are maintaining the band is key. My doctor said that is one of the major issues he sees with the band is people never return once they have lost the weight or have had it for awhile. I believe regular check ups is a key to my success of losing 230 pounds and keeping it off as well as keeping my band in working order.I hope you feel better soon,

How Long Was Your Hospital Stay?
steph1967 replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was done out patient, I checked in at 6am had surgery at 7am and was released at noon. My mom however did have to stay for 3 days it was a requirement of her insurance. so it just depends. Also I think it has to do with how you tolerate the pain and how your body reacts as far as your vital signs. -
In my opinion it was the best decision I ever made...would I do it again? most definately. would I recommend it absolutly ..but like others said it is a tool you have to be willing to give certain things up and stick with the new lifestyle it requires. I attend support group that is offered my my surgeon, I still go for regular check ups and fills, i still see the weight loss specialist who measures me and talks to me about diet often. I was banded 5/14/08 I was 381 lbs I am now 157 I went from wearing a size 30 jeans to a size 6 and a 4X top to a medium. it has been a long road but it is well worth it..

Different people have different effects from the band, it works for some and doesn't for others, it is a tool not a cure all, you have to have the mind set as well that you are determinded to lose and eat the right foods and amounts whether the band is filled or not. I have lost 220 lbs since i was banded almost 4 years ago, I have 10 lbs to go, I have never had a gain but i have been at a standstill or very slow losing process, has it been easy heck no. there are days i feel hungry but just have the mind set not to go grazing and find something to do to keep my mind off it. or drink some water to fill myself up. the band is there to help you and the rest is up to you and how much you want to get to where you want to be. You can do it...I know you can...

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!
steph1967 replied to Rockin' Robyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am fairly new to the site, I was banded 5/14/2008 and I have lost 220 lbs 10 more to go and feel great yes it is possible with determination. I have never had a gain nor do I intend to the band is a tool it is not a cure all and if you have the mind set that you want to lose and keep it off and be healthy you will get there..good luck to everyone in achieving your weight loss goals. -
I have had my band for close to 4 years, I do not find that I can't drink as much as my pre banded days, I do not feel that I feel any more of the effects of alcohol I go out a couple times a month and usually drink girlie drinks, malibu rum, margaritas, etc..and I am very weight concious and keep up with my band so my band is at a level where i can only eat the recomended amount of food. I just think it depends on what you are drinking and how much you have ate and when compared to when you are drinking

I also am almost 4 year post banded. I feel very fortunate after reading some of the replies, that I have not suffered any long term side effects. There are certain foods that dont agree with me but I think that is normal.

Hi my name is Stephanie, I am new to this site but have been banded for almost 4 years. I could not be happier with the weight loss, I have lost about 229 lbs in the 4 years. I am very happy I did the band I feel much healthier, just wish now I could afford to have the skin removed so that I could feel I look as perfect as I would like. I look good in clothes but do not like to look at myself without. I have about 16 lbs to go til I can be considered normal weight. I do exercise but nothing seems to help. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
