should I still be in pain 3 weeks after Surgery?
ukangel replied to bunnykin4u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Just a quick reply about the stitch that you pulled out. I have a scar right under my bra line at the front and it has never healed following surgery. When I was about three weeks post op. It was becoming a little infected so I went to my own doctors and a nurse actually found a stitch and pulled it out (just as you described) The scar is now healing really well. She did say that your body sometimes reacts to the stitches and that is why the scars do not heal as well. About your pain I can not help I am afraid. I have a recuring pain in the middle of my breast bone but I believe this is just the band settling in. Hope someone else comes back with some advice for you xxxx -
Hi All Looking for some advice I had the band fitted on the 7th Feb 4 weeks ago I have followed the diet to the letter and have had no problems thus far. I have been introducing thicker foods with lumps that need chewing and I have been chewing really well. Two days ago I suffered really bad chest pain and almost a stuck feeling. I also felt really uncomfortable so I kept moving as I have read that other people find this helps. It got worse as the night went on and eventually I phoned the 24hr hot line. I got told not to worry and it was probably trapped wind and to take an antiacid and a pain killer and go to sleep. I did as I was told and it appeared to have cleared in the morning. Well untill I tried to eat! Then it came back just as bad after only a couple of spoons of porridge! I did not eat anything all day and then fortunately had an appointment with the dietician so asked her for advice. She did not have a clue as she has only been with the company a month and passed me back to the hotline who again said that it was trapped wind. I have not eaten again all day today and been sipping small amounts of Water but the pain is like someone is stood on my chest just below my bra line in the centre of my chest. There feels like a real heavy weight on my chest. Getting really worried now is there anything I should be doing? DOes anyone have any advice?:help:

One Month Post Surgery And Pain In Chest
ukangel replied to ukangel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How strange you ask me about my gall bladder. I had it removed about 6 years ago. That is when my weight became a major problem. I was wondering if the pain is because I dont have a gall bladder? Seems to be easing today. I think I may have not chewed something and have suffered a few days of consequences!!!!! It was a good lesson. -
I was banded in Birmingham through the Hospital Group on the 7th February by Dr Sigurdson. The trapped wind was pretty painful. I think worse than everything else. They found I had a hernia when they went to do the operation so I had a hernia repair at the same time which I think made the surgery slightly more painful. I have lost around 2 stones since the surgery but the weight loss has slowed down quite dramatically. Though from what I have read this sounds quite normal. How you going with weight loss?

Hi Hellybelly There is a special Uk Forum at the bottom page of the local forums as well as all the great information you can find on this great site. When did yo get banded and how are you managing?
-
Hi would you know of any support group in the North West of England around the Preston area? You have done so well to loose 10stone with all the complications you have experienced!!!
-
Anniregs I have lost nearly 2 stone in just over two weeks. Just shows how badly I was eating before the op!!! Talking about telling people I had a friend visit from London and she is also overweight and she stated the evening conversation with ....would you consider having a lap band fitted..... She nearly fell off her chair when I lifted my shirt up and said I had more than considered it !! I had actually just had it done. She was also worried about the surgery for herself but as she said her husband had just had his wisdom teeth out under general anesthetic!! So go for it and have confidence in your decision. At least you can talk to your sister.:clap2:

anniegs You will be just fine. It is the best thing I have ever done and I am only two weeks into my new life. I feel liberated that I will never fail again at dieting because I am never going to have to diet again. I am now going to eat like a thin person!!!!! Small portions. It is so liberating. My clothes are just begining to show the difference and it is amazing. The hospital group will be on to you fast enough to get in touch with you when they want your money. They offer great sales pitches and are really smooth gaining the sale its at that end that I feel they lack a little with the aftercare and advice. I think they have a problem with retention of staff and also like my husband says they have had our money. All that said The Droitwhich Spa Hospital is lovely and the staff are amazing. They should be for the amount that you pay!!!! Hope that is where you are going. Do you know who is your surgeon? Try not to frighten yourself too much by looking at different sites be confident with your descision. It will be worth it in the long run.
-
Anniegs I am sure you will be fine. The hospital group were amazing before the surgery and at the hospital in Birmingham they were great but the aftercare seems to be a little hit and miss. Though I have received a dietician appointment today for two weeks time so hopefully I will get a couple of questions answered. Its such a big life descision that it is quite nice to share it with some people that are close to you. I have shared my secret with only three of my closest friends and have managed to smudge the truth around everyone else. Because I have been on continual diets around work colleagues for years they have not found it strange that I have been drinking slim fast shakes for the last two weeks. No one has even commented!! When did you say your surgery was planned for?

Hi I had my band fitted on the 7th Feb in Birmingham by Mr Sigurrdson though the hospital group. I did not get offered the telemetric band and had not heard anything about it prior to coming on this site. Is it more expensive? I am in Blackpool in the North of England. I have had no follow up and have no appointments planned with the hospital group. Everyone I met on my consult has now left and I fel the aftercare is not as they explained in my consultations!! Has any one else had the surgery with the hospital group?

:help: I have been banded for just under two weeks and I am experiencing a really bad upset stomach 20 minutes after any fluids. I talked to the dietician and she said to keep away from milk products which I have but it has made no difference. It has been great for the weight loss bit I am a little concerned that nothing is staying in my stomach for any length of time. It is also making me very dehydrated. Does anyone have any ideas?
-
Hi The idea of the UK forum sounds great. I sympathise with the way you are feeling. I talked through with my husband the songs that I wanted for my funeral and to explain to everyone how my life had become so miserable that it was the only option left open to me. I took the guilt off him in case anything would have happened in surgery. I also justified it in my own mind as I had two friends who put themselves under the knife to have a breast reduction and one an enlargement. Now they took the same risks and they were just for enhancing their already perfect figures! I made the choice to enhance my life! I have told select people and they have been the most supportive and they are the people who have walked the weight loss journey with me for such a long time that they appreciate that I have not taken the descission lightly. I am so new to all of this that I would not know where to start but would be happy to join. I had my surgery in Birmingham uder the sugeon Mr Sigurrdson through the Hospital Group. The after care has been very scarce. I have not received any follow up appointments and have been told that the contact I had following my consultation has now left and has yet not been replaced. Feel they have had our money and now they are avoiding the calls when I just want to have a couple of very simple questions answered. Good job I found this forum! Just my luck that the new electronic band has just come to England when I have had the old one fitted! Weight loss is going ok I started at 19 st 1 and on my scales at home I have gone down to 17 st 11. I have experienced a major upset stomach since surgery so that may account for the extra weight loss. I am just so pleased that I have taken the step in the right dirrection for the first time. :clap2:

Hi I live in the North West of England andI am married with a son of 6 years old. I have watched this site and looked at all the interesting information they contain and now I feel I can post something about me as I had my lap band fitted on the 7th February 2007 at Droitwich Spa Hospital in Birmingham in the UK. I have struggled with my weight for the past 16 years and feel at 37 it was time to start living and become the person I alsways longed to be. My surgery went really well but unfortunatly I had a hernia that they only discovered in surgery and i had to have that repaired at the same time. I am still very tender but feeling very positive. I have stuck to the only liquids and feel so hungry but realise that it will get better. I am only 6 days post op. Would love to hear from anyone who is begining their journey or if anyone has any useful tips !

Hi I have just had a band fitted by the Hospital Group in Birmingham but I was not offered the band you have described. Who are you getting it through? Is it new in ENgland or are you having it done abroad?
