Can Not Sleep On My Left Side. Can You?
Pollyanna12 replied to MOMIOF3CV's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yikes! I am a stomach sleeper and was stressed about how I would survive the 2 or so weeks post surgery... Good luck I hope it calms for you -
Protein Shakes Recommendations
Pollyanna12 replied to Lovemythreems's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I make my own shakes with fruit or greek yogurt for substance and I use the Whey Isolate powder. I just picked up a shake recipe book by Chef Dave Fouts, he's got some really interesting concoctions! I've found that I need to "mix it up a bit" (no pun intended), or I get really bored! -
Im So Excited, I Will Be Banded March 23, 2012!
Pollyanna12 replied to Tiffany Clements's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to do a 6 month class that my work health benefits office offers - it was actually a good class. I already "knew" what we learned but because I really needed to understand and use it (and am MOTIVATED to do that) - it was a good experience for me. I think this website offers great resources and references. If you haven't gotten the book BANDWAGON - do! Jean MacMillan is a member on this site, and wrote it. GOOD LUCK to you both, I have surgery the 20th! -
Are You Making Good Food Choices?
Pollyanna12 replied to rousselin02's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Curlygirly999, I agree - TRACK TRACK TRACK your food. I just could not get into it when I was trying to do pen and paper, but Myfitnesspal.com makes it easy! I start my pre-op diet tomorrow after my appointment, I was SO tempted to get Costco pizza for dinner today! THen I entered it in my fitness pal, and changed my plan to a good home cooked protein and veggie dinner! Writing it down makes it real for me, and the few sweets I have had glare at me off the computer screen. Even though I have lost 8 pounds since Feb 1st! -
YUM! I get it in the bulk section at a local health food store - grocery stores are really pricey! Tons of recipes out there, I make a salad with feta, lite balsamic vinagrette, chopped tomato, olives and a little chopped onion. It tends to take on flavors of what it is mixed with, consistency is more like barley. when you make it it really swells and multiples, much more than rice! Careful or you end up enough for an army.

I will get the details of my liquid diet Friday. I have been on two protein shakes and a sensible dinner for three weeks as prep (I chose to get ready like this). I am sure I will survive the two weeks pre-surgery, but cannot image going from all regular food to liquids overnight. Good luck everyone, I am sure we can do this. And staying in touch will help!!

To Those Of You Who Say You Don't Have Time For Exercise...
Pollyanna12 replied to Violet953's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ummm DITTO! Sometimes getting yourself a friend who will walk with you, or go to the gym with you helps. I don't like public exercise at all, but I do swim. So, that is my last resort. I prefer to be home on the treadclimber, but if that seems too daunting, the pool is a great option. -
My surgery is March 20th too, It was rescheduled due to some projects at the office. I needed to be clear minded going into this, so I chose to have it moved. Keep you eye on the prize (as it were)....three weeks will fly!

Surgery Tomorrow! Yikes!!"
Pollyanna12 replied to sassyfrass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YAY for you! It will go fine, and being post surgery will be preferrable to pre-surgery. Best of luck, enjoy your anesthesia - it really is like no time passed! Looking forward to your updates after surgery -
Here is a good recipe for cod or any white fish: what you need: 1 egg 1/4 c milk 3-4 cod fillets 1/4 c breadcrumbs 1/2 c panko Pam beat one egg with 1/4 c milk 1/4c breadcrumbs with 1/2 c panko, season however you like (set aside) rinse cod fillets and pat dry with paper towel dip in egg/milk coat in panko/breadcrumbs lay on baking pan spray lightly with Pam bake at 425 degrees for about 15-25 minutes (depending on the thickness of the fillets) (I usually mix 2 tbsp ketchup with 1/4 tsp horseradish for a cocktail sauce dipping sauce) YUMMM-O

Like many others, I fear that it will not help me! I have fought this battle my whole life, and see the band a another "tool" like some folks use WW 'point' system. I know there is hard work to working with the band to lose weight, but I guess still being hungry all the time worries me to. Surgery coming up quickly, three weeks from today!

Please be careful with the reflux! My brother's band got too tight and he ended up with aspiration pneumonia from the reflux at night. Now he knows the warning signs, and I am confident it won't happen again. For us not yet banded, these topics are great information to be on the lookout for!

My surgery is March 20th! I cannot wait, this has been a LONG year. I had to move the date from the 6th due to some work projects with deadlines, but I wanted to be sure my head was clear and I could focus on myself. I have started the protein shakes, had 1 for breakfast then regular food for lunch and dinner for 2 weeks, and am not finishing 3 weeks of protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, with regular food for dinner. I see th surgeon next week (the 6th) asn suspect I will be on all liquids after that. I ordered some cookbooks from Chef Dave Fouts, my brother recommended them. He (and my brother) were banded so the cook books have realistic and necessary recipes. Also, reading Bandwagon. It is about time I put as much energy into me as I do into my work and relationships!! Good luck all, and this is a great place for support.

hi, I have been getting used to Protein shakes for two meals and eating one meal a day. I am trying to transition slowly to the pre-surgery liquid diet. I have been using one cup of a frozen fruit mix with pineapple, mango peach and strawberries with a cup of low cal cranberry sauce and Protein powder. I also eat a banana and one Greek yogurt for a mid-morning & mid afternoon snack. Dinners are low fat and moderate portion. My question is, I have been getting the worst acid stomach in the evenings! I do not have an ulcer, and no history of heartburn or stomach acid. I thought maybe it could be the pineapple in the fruit mix? But there are only a few little bites in the cup if fruit. Has anyone else had this experience?

Had An Epiphany ... And What Do I Tell My Job????
Pollyanna12 replied to Sunshyne068's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you, my boss also assumed it was female related and I did not correct him. My work requires FMLA paperwork for any sick time of consecutive three days. I don't know what the surgeon wrote, but no one ever asked me. -
I Need Help!! How Do I Get Started??
Pollyanna12 commented on balloffear's blog entry in get started !!! Blog
My advice is to first talk to your regular physician. There should be some level of history with weight issues and depending on how much overweight your insurance may require additional comorbid conditions (diabetes, heart problems, sleep apnea, etc.). If you don't have insurance you may want to start checking into financing for medical procedures. I think your doc may be able to recommend a surgeon, or there are places on this sites main page where you can get information on surgeons. Most of the surgeons require that you attend at least one informational seminar. There is a ton of information out there, this site is a terrific resource! Good luck! -
I use my fitness pal and love it. I am not good with written logs, and really like that I don't need to keep looking things up. Plus, like bellaloco -the recipe function is awesome!
-
This morning I used the "mixed" fruit again, and I could immediately taste the acid from the pineapple - I now know the culprit for sure! I will steer clear of that!

I am scheduled March 20th, it seems like SO far away, I am going away foor a week on the 17th, but it is to see the skinny half of my family, so food won't be an issue.
-
Ok, this may be nuts but I have heard and read alot of consistency in foods that can/cannot be tolerated. Though some folks can eat anything! So I do realize that there are individual differences. My question is: can folks eat steamed broccoli post-banding? I eat so much broccoli now, I LOVE IT. I go through almost a 3lb bag of the flowerettes from Costco each week. I am sure my husband would love if we never had it again, but it is my veggie of choice and I am not sure if I will be able to have it after my surgery.

Surgery is on March 20th. I am trying to get a jump on protein shakes & liquids. I would like to be at breakfast & lunch = protein shakes and 1 dinner meal by my pre-op on March 6th. I am getting really excited, and I am so glad I found this website!

My dietician recommended the Whey Isolate Protein powder. It is about $20 at Walmart. I mix it (vanilla) with frozen fruits and low cal juice (V8 fusion, diet cranberry, etc.). It makes a pretty decent shake and has about 30g protein per scoop.
