    Hello Fellow Februarians!

Hi & Welcome! I have to go on atkins for 2 weeks prior then clear liquids 2 days before... my surgery is 2/24, so diet starts on the 10th. I actually have already started the atkins and am practicing portion control so I can start acclimating...

    February Bandsters?

My Dr and nutritionist gave me a shopping list of stuff to get before surgery to be prepared (clear liquids, jello, popsicles, etc) and Gas-x Strips were on there... not sure if they work, but seems like alot of people recommend them good luck!

    February Bandsters?

Good luck Saucy!! Update us when you're feeling up to it!
  5. Hi - I'm getting mixed results when asking this question... How much time to I **reasonably** have to take off work? I'm in Dental Sales, so I'm in and out of a car all day.... but not really carrying much. My surgeon is part of True Results, and the PA I've been seeing there says only 3-4 days. However, Another PA there is seeing my mom, who is having surgery with me, and told her a week, plus only light duty, not lifting, climbing etc, for 4-6 weeks (my mom's an insurance adjuster). I've also read and heard that patients still aren't feeling quite right and are in pain a week or more after surgery... What has your experience been? Just wondering what the reality is....

    Soda Questions

My nutritionist and PA at surgery center both told me to give up soda (I was a big diet soda drinker) The reasons they gave were that the carbonation can make you feel bloated, give you gas pains, or stretch the stomach pocket above the band... The nutritionist also pointed out that Diet soda, as well as regular soda cause an insulin spike, which can make weight loss slower and increase cravings for carbs.... So now that I am less than 4 weeks out from surgery I have been weaning myself off the soda. I'm trying to drink those crystal lights packets with water all day... sometimes I just miss having a can of soda with dinner, but I'm practicing self control now to prep me for post surgery

    Time Off Work?

Val - thanks for the inout, sorry you're still feeling bad! I, too, have never had surgery, and was thinking, oh, this will be a piece of cake, since the Dr's and PAs keep telling me I should be able to go back to work on Monday (after friday surgery!!!) I'm a little more realistic now since hearing everyone's experiences, and I'm gonna take a week off work, just to make sure I'm ready
  11. HI! I too am scheduled for surgery this month, on the 24th. I'm really nervous as well - I've never had surgery or anything like that. I had an IV for the first time when I went to get an EGD done to see if I had hiatal hernia. I was a bit nervous, and have to say the IV was not pleasant. So if they offer something to reduce anxiety before that, you should be golden. the previous poster who talked about anesthesia and not remembering is right on the ball. I remember the anesthesiologist coming over and saying he was giving me something that would feel like a pitcher of margaritas. then they started wheeling me towards OR. but I remember nothing from that point, Just slowly waking up and having a conversation with a nurse after it was over. Congrats on starting pre=op diet - best of luck to you!!!! you should join the february bandsters group if you haven't already!
  12. You should just check with your Dr and nutritionist to make sure you are getting enough calories while breastfeeding, and also what they recommend. Bottom-line is though, if you're not comfortable or have any concerns about breastfeeding, you probably should wait until you feel at ease

Who Have You Told You Were Banded?

she "says" she's going to tell him after the surgery.... but at the same time, I think he will notice that she's eating differently.... she also asked me not to say anything to anyone else in our family, so who am I to out her... I think she'll need more support at home, but I guess she thinks she'll have me to lean on, since we only live about 5 min away from each other

Who Have You Told You Were Banded?

yeah... I totally don't agree with that but I think she is embarrassed
  16. I think it depends on what type of shakes your Dr/intuitionist recommends. I go to true results, and they don't sell shakes, but my nutritionist recommends EAS Advantedge shakes, which are lower cal, low carb, no sugar, and high protein... she also like pretty much all of the EAS line (Myoplex, etc) Some shakes can have alot of sugar in them == lots of carbs, but also lots of protein. Then there are some that are "zone" balanced... higher protein, but also some carbs and fat....

5 Days After Surgery, Feeling Sick?

Sorry you're feeling so crappy! I don't have any advice for you, since my surgery is not til later this month... But I'm sending you wishes and support for a speedy recovery! I too am concerned with having to take medications after surgery, since I'm on a couple of prescriptions. My PA said it shouldn't be a problem as long as the pill is smaller than a nickel, but I guess mentally I'm still worried about swallowing anything solid into my stomach while its healing.... Keep your head up, and hopefully you'll be feeling better soon!

Who Have You Told You Were Banded?

I guess I'm a little like the initial poster - I want some time to get used to the idea, and am keeping it to myself for now. I would feel very hurt and betrayed if my spouse or family told others about it when I specifically asked them not to. So far only my mom knows, since we are getting it done together. She has told my dad she needs a hiatal hernia repair. I am telling my husband this weekend. I didn't want to say anything until I was sure I was covered for surgery and didn't have to pay out of pocket.

    Time Off Work?

Joyce - so sorry to hear of your brother passing. My condolences. Hope you are doing well in your recovery and that the lap band has been good to you

    Time Off Work?

I am also having hernia repair done at same time too.... seems like patients who have had that done have a little more recovery time... I had appt yesterday with nutritionist and PA for pre and post op diet, as well as EKG and PFT... I asked again about recovery, and my surgery is on Friday, they were pretty sure I could be back by Monday... however, I think I'm just gonna take a few extra days off in case I'm miserable
