Any chance anyone out there who had their procedure done by Dr. Deol can tell me how long the whole process took from your first visit with her to the day you had surgery? I just came back from my pcp, who was not supportive of this. He said it would take more than a year for this whole thing. I told him whether I had his support or not, I was going ahead with it.

CJay, I am going to try to go the insurance route first, if that does not work out for me, then I will self pay. I am worth the money. I am lucky to have a very supportive husband who agrees. But, I most definitely will try the insurance first. As for family history, I guess I didn't think so much about that. My mom died from a heart attack, my dad has major heart disease, my brother high cholestrol and blood pressure. I hope they do take that into consideration now. Thanks for your help.

I agree with you, a pound a week is more that I am loosing now! I would welcome that success! I am seeing my pcp on Friday and hope that he supports my decision to have this done. If not, I will still persue this. I am excited to start this adventure. -

Wendy, that is good to know about Rebecca. When I talked to BC/Bs today just to find out what their criteria was, the girl was pretty helpful and I left feeling somewhat better. But it is good to know that about Rebecca. Hopefully, she will be able to help me out. I am going next Tuesday to the first seminar, then my appt with Dr. Deol is March 13th. As absurd as it may sound, I just wonder if I should try to gain a few more pounds to make myself that much closer. -

Babygrl1234, first let me congradulate you on your lap band and loss so far. That is wonderful, I am looking forward to it hopefully in the soon future. I work for our school district and MESSA is our BC/BS carrier. It is awesome insurance, but I am just fearful of the co morbids. Depression, high cholestrol and high blood pressure I hope are enough. If not, I don't know what else I can do. Thanks for the reply, good luck on your journey -

I too have an appt with Dr. Deol in March. I plan on attending her meeting at Beaumont on the 27th of Feb. When I talked to Rebecca on the phone she was wonderful. However, she did tell me with a BMI of 37 I probaby wont qualify. I do have high cholestrol ( on meds) and major depression for this, 30 years of being over weight ( also on meds). Does anyone have any suggestions for helping this along? I have BC/BS MESSA. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. -
I am new to this site. I happened to stumble across it while looking for information on the lap band. Each day I check for new information and just a new in site to this whole procedure. I don't know if anyone out there has any bits of info that can help me, but my problem is that I have contacted a surgeon who preforms this but they are telling me that because my BMI is 37 I probably won't qualify. When I look at the comorbids, I have high cholestrol, border line high blood pressure and of course, major depression from 30 years of being over weight. I can gain the extra weight if need be to get to a BMI of 40, but then I worry that if I don't qualify at that weight, how will I ever loose the weight. If anyone has anything that can help me, I would appreciate it. I am desperate to feel good about myself. Thanks
