MY FIRST FILL WAS A NIGHTMARE
SOPHIESMOM replied to bandedbeauty11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Imperfect- asked the doctor the same question at my fill today. You are overeating and when the pouch stretches a bit it presses on the nerve that radiates pain to your shoulder. Also, sounds like you aren't restricted enough if you are able to fill up the pouch that quickly and with enough food to radiate shoulder pain. I know because I suffer from the exact same thing prior to my 2nd fill today, I could eat an entire bagel in under 5 min. Then, 5 or 10 min later the shoulder pain started and lasted hours. I am a low BMI bandster and I don't eat masses of food, but just too much for the pouch. I am hopeful that this fill works! Have a size 6 dress hanging in my closet with a goal date of 6/15! -
After Surgery/going Back To Work
SOPHIESMOM replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Monday and went in for a half day Wednesday and back full time on Thursday. I think it depends on pain threshold and your level of fitness prior to surgery. I think I bounced back quickly. I have a very stressful management job, but it's mentally stressful not physically. -
Bmi 27 And Considering The Lapband, Depressed
SOPHIESMOM replied to dwolley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dwolley- Here's what it all boils down to...you can seek out others advice and opinions ad infinitum, but at the end of the day, you are the only one that can decide what is best for you The procedure is minimally invasive, outpatient procedure and there is a quick recovery. My doctor does the surgery in less than 17 mins. The pain involved depends on one's pain threshold. One other thing...there seems to be group of people that are very preachy and negative toward low BMI candidates. I find it fascinating - like a kind of resentment and passive aggression. And remember...it's not about losing the weight, it is about keeping it off! Good luck! -
Bmi 27 And Considering The Lapband, Depressed

Not sure about band slippage in low BMI patients. I was banded in February and started with a BMI of 28.4 the day of my surgery. I am 7 weeks into it and have lost 13 lbs. -
I am not drinking pop - i brought it up since it was my morning caffeine drink! Not much of a coffee drinker, but love diet pop! For people like me who can't drink pop anymore, I think the crystal light is a nice alternative.

My two biggest struggles since being banded in Feb. 2012 is not being able to stomach my morning diet dew and also getting in all my Protein. I have found Crystal Light Energy which has as much caffeine as 2 cans of mt. dew. It is delicious. I also love love love the Special K protein Water mix in strawberry kiwi- 5 g protein and 5 g Fiber per 16oz bottle of water. In my area, I can only find these products at Wal-Mart. After awhile, Protein shakes seriously grossed me out! Has anyone out there tried they two products?

Low Bmi And Weight Loss
SOPHIESMOM replied to iriegirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded about 5 weeks ago and I had a starting BMI of barely 30. I have been overweight my whole life and was sick and tired of being fat, chubby, chunky, whatever! I had my first fill this week - 5cc in a 10cc band. I can very happy with results- down 13lbs. in last 6 weeks. Pls message me if you have any questions about the journey. Good luck! -

If you self pay, you should be able to find a doctor. It is considered an "off-label" use of the band. The way I see it, band me now or band me later. Without the band, I am sure to gain enough weight to qualify (35 BMI). Why not do it when there is only 40lbs to lose. I am 5'6" and 170. My goal weight is 130 (BMI of 21). I have been fighting my weight and yoyo dieting since I was a teenager. It will be very liberating to not fight my weight...food won't have the same power over me as it does now. Good Luck -

Hi! I am scheduled for the band next week. I have a BMI of barely 30. I would like to lose (forever!!) 40 lbs. I will post my experience starting next week. I know other low BMI lapbanders and they have done extremely well.
