Post-Op Update - 9 days Out. First five days were fine, a bit of soreness, kind of loopy from the pain meds, but I was able to walk around. My appetite was non-existent and I had a hard time getting my liquids in. Then all hell broke loose on Wednesday! I was extremely constipated, and finally able to go, and it just made me sick! (Sorry for the TMI). I was able to go do report card pickup for my son, but by the time I got home, I was bedridden. I could not get out of the bed on Thursday, called the doc, he gave me a refill on pain meds. Nurse told me if one dose did not help to go to ER. BP and HR shot up skyhigh! Forced myself to drink a protein shake and eat a small cup of yogurt, went to sleep, woke up the following day feeling 100% better. Long story short, get your liquid and protein or your body will rebel on you! I learned the hard way! Today, I was able to get up, go run errands, clean house and for lunch had some pureed chicken curry over mashed potatoes, about 1/2 cup total. I felt like I'd eaten a five course meal. All and all I seem to be healing and getting back to my old self. I am actually anxious for my first fill so I can really start losing. As of my first Dr. appt, I am down 26 lbs, 12 since my surgery last week.

Liz, I was banded on the 12 also and it has been a strain getting all of the liquid in. I also did not have an appetite, so I'd been having a hard time getting all of my protein. I got really sick on Wednesday and had to force myself to drink a shake, it was bad! Then I woke up the next day and was fine...I believe my body was yelling at me to nourish it! I still have a really small appetite, and have to force the liquids, but it's getting better. So, in my long winded way, no you aren't the only one. Good Luck on your journey!

3 Days Post Op And Starving!!
tokiesgirl6 replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to see I am not the only one feeling this way! I was banded last Thursday and the first 3 days I had no appetite, but today I woke up ready to chew my foot off! I have been doing lots of tea, soup, I had a protein shake and a small yogurt cup...but for whatever reason, today I am very hungry! I am just trying to stay focused until my first fill. -
By day 3 I was allowed creamy soups. But I would definitely clear with your doc. You can always add extra broth to thin it out and also strain it. I like the consistency of it, it feels good going down (if that makes sense.) For me, cold stuff just isn't as easy to digest right now, so the warm soup, has been a lifesaver!

Creamy cauliflower soup (My recipe) 1 large or 2 small bags frozen cauliflower florets 2 cups low sodium chicken broth 1 medium onion diced 1/4 cup cream 1/4 cup low fat sharp cheddar cheese (shredded) salt and pepper to taste In a dutch oven, saute onions using olive oil cooking spray until soft. Add cauliflower and mix well. stir in broth, cover and let cook until pot comes to a rolling boil. Remove from heat. (I have a hand held emulsion blender, so I use that, otherwise us a blender in batches) Blend broth and cauliflower mixture until smooth. If using a blender, once blended, pour contents back into pot, sprinkle in cheese and cream, mix well until cheese is melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste. To me it taste like cream of potato soup...and is very filling.

Your body may just be craving carbs. It could just be your body's way of rebelling and telling you what it wants...hopefully it will even out and you will get back on track! You are 68 lbs down, that is fantastic, remember the hard work it took to get there the next time you reach for some rice! I would sell my youngest child right about now to be down 68lbs! (Just kidding...I'd probably get more for the oldest! LOL) Stay strong and good luck!

2 Days Post Op And Starving!
tokiesgirl6 replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 days out and I have had shakes (sugar-free carnation instant Breakfast is a Godsend!), and I made a pot of creamy cauliflower Soup. However, today was the first day that I was actually hungry. I think my swelling is going down, so maybe that is contributing to the new hunger. When you say blended eggs...did you liquify them? I have been worried that I'm not getting enough Protein and contemplating some soft scrambled eggs. I don't think I could stomach blended eggs. -
I will post the recipe, it is really tasty. I do catering, so I'm always trying to come up with ways to eat healthy and not feel like I am in prison!

It is actually delicious...it tastes like a creamy potato soup!

OK, I thought it was, but just wanted some feedback. I am drinking water, low sugar apple juice, herbal tea and I made myself a big pot of cauliflower soup, so I wouldn't starve myself! I am sure I will be OK! Thanks!!

This might be TMI, but I got banded on Thursday and I have not had a BM since. Is this normal?
-
I haven't told a lot of people, primarily for the same reason. Those close to me, who I know are supportive know, everybody else can have a cup of shut the hell up! This is something I'm doing for me, so I just decided to keep things close to the chest, as they say. Good Luck with your surgery!!!

I am in a bit of muscle pain, more than the last two days, but otherwise I think I'm doing OK. I really think I did too much yesterday, and now I'm paying for it. I will be resting today, catching up on my homework! (I just started law school, on top of everything else.) I know this is just temporary so I'm going to ride it out!

Bandedyesterday at 1:00 pm by Dr. Myers at Day One Healthh in Chicago! Everything went well. My only complaint so far is Gas pain!! I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I have been walking every hour or so, sipping water and apple juice and taking my Gas X and Advil. Good luck to everyone scheduled this month! For me, the hardest part is over! I figure if I made it through surgery I can do the work to lose the weight!
-
Tomorrow's the day! At 11:00 am I am getting banded! Checked into the Hyatt downtown Chicago, so I can be close to my doctor after recovery...relaxing with hubby but as time ticks away I am getting nervous! I know things will be fine though! I will post as soon as I can after surgery!

RunningScared, I'm getting banded on Thursday and my doctor had me on a liquid diet for 14 days. I lost 11 pounds the first 5 days. Clear liquids (broth, crystal light, water, sugar free jell-o) unlimited, 3 low sugar/carb protein shakes per day.
-
I am so sick of liquids...LOL! I can't go 5 minutes without having to go to the bathroom! Good Luck Letsdothis with your approval.

Got the OK from my PCP after stress test and ECG...so it looks like I am getting banded on Thursday! Is it normal to be freaking out and having second thoughts???

Congratulations!! That is so awesome...one of the reasons I am getting banded is to hopefully make conception easier! Good Luck!!! -
Went to the Dr. today to get second approval for surgery, due to my BP being high at my pre-op appointment. BP was normal, but doc wants a stress test and an EKG! Going tomorrow for those, then praying everything is OK and approval is back before next Thursday when surgery is scheduled...So freaking close, and now this!! OAN - Good luck to everyone who was banded this week...I'm keeping you all in my prayers!

I will keep you inmy prayers.
