1.
Hi all. I'm back, banded and doing great. We got back late last night. Everything in TJ was fantastic. I felt like I got treated better than I deserved at the clinic by Dr. Ortiz and his staff (what honeys they are). There were 6 of us on the "ward" near the same age, and all I will say is what happens in TJ stays in TJ!! haha We had too much fun!

I ended up with the 10cc VG band, a hiatal hernia repair and some info on my liver (not good...fat infiltrated). I had trouble breathing when I woke up...pretty scary. I almost feel no difference, except when I get up and down. Hubby and I probably walked 5 miles the day after surgery, and I have kept that up. Other than buying way too many souvineers, I have no complaints! I'm looking forward to restriction! I have been having juices, broth (they had the best "Ortiz Tortilla soup" at the hotel restaurant), Protein & Water and smoothies when I can get them.

I wasn't told how much quantity I should have so I emailed the clinic.

I wasn't going to tell anyone about my band....privacy issues.....but I'm so happy I want to tell everyone! ::::lifting shirt to show my incisions::::
Whooooohoooooo!!!!

  2. Thanks Marly and Janine. But I'm on the pre-op diet and I need to lose 5% of my weight or ELSE! I'm so upset today. I'm actually UP 4 more pounds. It MUST be the antibiotics. I can't think it would be anything else.

Dh and I are leaving today for Seattle. We'll spend the night so we can park the car (free) and then tomorrow our flight leaves for San Diego. Surgery Monday. Aaahhhhhh!!!!

  3. Toni, yes I've been having liquids. I started having some Better Than Boullion, so maybe the sodium is playing havoc. I do take HCTZ so that should take care of it. Hmmmm.......I am so frustrated.

Marga, you told me what I already suspected. You're probably right. Thanks. I need to start working out again. I have tendinitis so this makes it hard, but I'm going to do it!

  4. My understanding is that the band is only a tool. You still have to follow a diet. It sounds like you are at a weight that is *healthy* so if that was your goal...health...you have indeed reached it. Congratulations!!

Continue eating healthy and exercise. Definitely less restriction if you are having problems eating.

  5. I gotta share this.....I'm so bummed out tonight. I really want to be in the mid 250's when I go for surgery. I thought I would be by now. My weight is not budging one bit since Monday. I've been on antibiotics this week....definitely not constipated. I'm so worried that even with the band I won't lose weight. I am starving on 700 calories and not losing weight? WUWT? It reminds me of the 6 months I spent on Atkins and I would lose 1/4 pound a week. I am insulin resistant and I was told that makes it hard for me to lose weight. Anyone have that problem?

  6. (((((())))) to all the pre-op dieters out there. I'm on day #10. You can do it! The first few days are definitely the hardest, until your mind switches from thinking about food every minute to switching its focus to other things....like being THINNER....and HEALTHIER!! It really does get easier, I promise! And after surgery, you'll have an easier time with the liquid diet. :(

  7. 2BHealthy, I can definitely relate to the summer cold thing. My doc put me on antibiotics to kick mine fast. I have the infection in my lungs and sinuses in 3 days of the cold coming on. Maybe my diet lowered my resistance? I don't know. The antibiotics have me puffed up like a Pillsbury Dough Boy. I hope your cold goes away quickly.

I can't believe I am leaving Saturday. My doctor also gave me some Valium equivalent just in case I get an anxiety attack. Of course if this happens on Sunday, and I take the med, it will make me tired and prevent me from shopping in TJ. Can't have that! I'm sure they give you something before surgery to calm the nerves.

    CBlancha9, how ya doing?

How's everyone else having surgery on Monday?

  8. Morning bandsters! I see a growing list of names for next Monday, the 18th!!

I made it through a weekend of parties (son's graduation), dinners, company, etc., and did pretty well. The scale only moved 1 pound since Friday.

A sore throat came on Saturday, and has progressed to a full blown creeping crud in my sinuses and chest. I'm so worried about coughing with my surgery in 6 days. Rest and fluids rest and fluids.

I'm seeing my doctor this morning...she is the one who suggested the lap band back in February and nudged me to start this process. She doesn't know I'm scheduled......it will be fun.

    Have a great day everyone!

  9. Good morning bandies! I hope all the new bandies are doing okay this weekend. I'm on day #6 of my pre-op, doing okay. My scale didn't move this morning. I had sushi for my dinner last night instead of Lean Cuisine and had some goat cheese and pita before bed. But, I haven't had a #2 for 3 days. Does anyone else have that problem?

Toni, thank you for what you said. :girl_hug:

Season, what is the Protein called that you got at GNC. I don't have one of those stores, will have to travel to the mall to find it.

I got dh on the diet with me. I think that's the ultimate support! He does get a lot more cream in his coffee than me though. Pfffttt!

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Cblancha, I'm on a primarily liquid, but I get a Lean Cuisine and some salad. Still I'm really hungry, especially at night. Will it help to know I'm doing this too? I feel very motivated, even though it's tough.

You know, you're the same age as my mom...would be....she passed away in November, suddenly from a DVT (deep vein thrombosis/blood clot) after a hysterectomy. I feel in my heart she would do this with me if she was here. We were the same size, had the same struggles. I honestly feel her obesity contributed to her decreased mobility and development of the DVT.

Anyway, I thought of that when I saw your age. Hope you don't mind me sharing. This time is very emotional for me.

  11. Toni, I wonder how I will feel restricted and sometimes I obsess over that. I think it's something that you just won't really know until the time comes. I am a big milk baby (drinker). I usually have 24 oz or more at dinner. That will be the hard one I think. I just won't put a glass on the table, huh?

Pippz, are you on all liquid pre-op?

  12. Hunter! I never got "Rounda" before. I don't think I would have liked it much either, though it pretty much fits me now. I think my pre surgery pictures are enough to make me a good bandster. They are gawd-awful. I don't think I will *ever share the underwear ones. Ughhh-bleech!

Hey Bigbaby, we got lots in common. I'm down from 267.5 to 263.0 today. I hope to be down to 250 by surgery date. How's your diet going?

  13. Hey peeps! How's it going Cblancha? Day 4 of my diet-from-hell! I'm happy though, I'm down 2 more pounds today. It's got me thinking, maybe I don't need a lapband! Hmmmmmm!

I got my list of salad ingredients: cucumber, all kinds of lettuce, peppers, Tomato (huh?), spinach, cabbage, celery, mushrooms. I got the Asian Mist Wishbone salad spritzer, and it was pretty good. The spritzers are on sale 2/$4.00 at Safeway this week.

I was so hungry last night, I couldn't get to sleep until after 2:00 a.m., and finally I took 2 metamucil tabs and that did the trick.

I picked up 23g EAS powder at costco. I am going to start mixing that in Water or crystal lite and give up the 100 calories of milk.

Off to have my yummy shake. Bleeech!

Good luck to all the banders today.
