You're in a lose/lose situation here. Can you not make your appointment for a different day and have a sub cover? You can probably pursue this, and win, but the end result of having ticked off your principal and running through the grievance procedures will probably hurt you in the long run.

almost throwing up after first few bites??
Toddy replied to Duitsy15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say slow way down and take smaller bites. You should always wait at least a minute between bites. I've had bouts of nausea when I've eaten too quickly or eaten too much. -
You need to have an upper GI. Insist on it and if your band doctor won't order it you need a new doctor ASAP!!!! Your pain sounds very similar to the pain I was having and they diagnosed me with a slipped band. It could also be your gallbladder, but only a doctor can diagnose that. Don't give up until you get answers -- pain like that is an indication that there is something wrong and it's your doctor's job to figure out what is going on -- don't let them brush you off; make them figure it out!

My idea of slider foods is anything high in fat... the fat enables it to slide right through!

I had my gallbladder removed four years prior to my lapband surgery and don't recall any gas pain. With my first lapband surgery I definitely had gas pain, and the gas pain was the only reason I had to take pain meds. A heating pad also helped. In November I had to have my lapband restitched and the doctor added plication, and I didn't have any gas pain at all.

I would never flame you B-52, I respect your advice A LOT and I envy your journey with the band. However, for me, the green zone has been very elusive! I've been there twice for very short periods of time and been very happy, and then suddenly my band decides it's too tight and then I start to have propblems. I actually had a slip and had it surgically repaired and added plication. I am now back in the process of having the band refilled. I've got 4 cc's and feel absolutely no restriction yet. Now I've moved out of state and had to change doctors... really hoping my new doctor will give me another fill without having to put me through a bunch of tests first when I see him in a couple of weeks. For me this has been a very frustrating journey, but I'm not giving up yet!!!

I sneeze... at least five to six times! In public I can see people moving away as if I'm contagious!

has anyone has a slipppage of the band???
Toddy replied to tray116's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vomiting (not to be confused with regurgitation) is the most common culprit. -
I agree, see your doctor. I've had a slip repaired and I didn't remember until I read it here that at one point it felt like I had a stitch in my side. Sorry, can't remember if it was before, during or after -- I just remember telling the doctor that it felt like a stitch in my side. Try not to stress too much before you get to see the doctor though. I was eight months post op when I had my slip and my doctor and his partner were very perplexed because slips don't usually occur so soon post-op. In fact, I was the earliest slip they have seen in their practice.

I am so anxious to get back to the green zone after my surgery to repair my slip in November. I have/am enduring bandster hell all over again! Have an appt for my second fill... really hoping it gets me somewhere. I love the pointing to the chart. My doctor has me fill out a questionnaire but today I think I'm going to point to the chart because I feel like I'm at the very far left-hand edge of the yellow! Love your posts B-52, they're always inspiring!

It is called maladaptive eating... won't hurt you once, but definitely not anything you want to make a habit of!!

Not sure if it's on Kindle, but Bandwagon was a GREAT book. Look for Jean McMillan, she's the author, and she's on this site regularly.

SO CONFUSED. Doctors...Procedures..oh my!!!
Toddy replied to lyndeeboo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hope you've posted the same thing on the sleeve message board. It would be nice to get your info from people experienced with both procedures. I opted for the band because I didn't want my anatomy changed and it was completely reversible. But... I've had some complications that were quite scary and required another surgery. I had two episodes of EXTREME pain (and I am NOT a pain weenie). I'm only about 25 minutes from my surgeon and relief I got with unfills, but I just can't imagine how I would have survived that pain if I had been farther away!! Turns out my band had slipped and it required surgery to restitch it. At the time of the second surgery, I opted for band with plication, which is similar to the sleeve, but without actually removing part of the stomach. With all I've been through, I did opt to keep my band. I do wish that I had researched the sleeve as much as I researched the band. One way I've heard it put is that with the sleeve, if you're going to have complications, it's early on; with the band, the complications usually come quite a bit later. I do love my band and what it's done for me weight loss-wise. However, knowing what I know now, and having experienced what I've been through, if I had it to do over again, I think I would opt for the sleeve. My daughter is thinking about wls and I would steer her toward the sleeve. I asked my doctor's opinion (after the fact) about what wls he would recommend for his wife or daughter, and he said his recommendation would depend upon co-morbidities, as some procedures are better for diabetics, for instance, and also on how much total weight a person needed to lose. I posted this not to scare you, as I think my case is not the "norm". Even my surgeon, who I LOVE, was quite baffled, and I was the earliest slip they had ever had in their clinic. Just continue to do your research and good luck with whichever wls you choose!! -
In other words, regurgitating the food that hasn't gone through the band yet.

Search for posts by Carolina Girl. I had plication done after the fact when they had to go in and restitch my slipped band in November. Right now I really can't comment on it because I only have 2 cc's in my band and I don't feel like the band or the plication either one is helping me yet. I will say that I do regret not getting the plication done initially when I had my band done.

No restriction, doc doesn't want to fill
Toddy replied to farmgirl04's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't understand doctors that are willing to perform WLS surgery, but not do what it takes to help the band do its job. Jeez, if we could all white-knuckle it and keep the weight off WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD OPT FOR WLS????? It's true you won't feel full, even when you reach the green zone, but you should feel satisfied on a small amount of food. If you don't feel physically satisfied on a small amount of food, or you're getting hungry every two hours or so, you NEED a fill -- that's what you got the band for!! -
I call all the weight-loss and exercise resolutioners, (myself included in the past) the Valentiners, because they're all cleared out by Valentines Day!!! I will be glad when my doctor gets my band back up to speed though! I feel like I'm back in bandster hell, and I didn't think I'd have that with plication ;-(
-
I will ride roller coasters again... the first time I get a chance to!!! The band will not stop me from doing any of the fun things I used to do!
-
Agree with the others... this sound like it could be very serious... internal organs are not something you can just play around with and hope it gets better -- $$ vs. life... not much choice there!
-
I did some awkward heavy lifting shortly after my surgery and my port really hurt the next day. Doctor said that was perfectly normal. Now as to the discharge, that is something I would keep an eye on and call your doctor's office if it doesn't stop.

My DH has a weight issue, but not as significant as mine... until recently. Seems he eats whatever I don't finish and has gained a significant amount since I had surgery.
-
I was told no aspirin or NSAIDS ever!!! That has been the hardest thing for me, even harder than giving up food!!
-
and now the hard part... real food
Toddy replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being on solids should be easier than liquids/mushies, because the solids will keep you fuller longer. Great advice about tracking... Do it! When I stopped tracking, my weight loss slowed dramatically. Other than that, with what you're cooking, you already sound successful!!! Best of luck!! -
After 4 years I'm having pain
Toddy replied to Mayasgram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First thing I'd do is go back to liquids for a few days. This sounds so similar to what I went through after a fill that had me a bit too tight... but I didn't go back to liquids, when I knew I should, and had a slip. -
After years of success, my body is rejecting the band - cany anyone else relate?
Toddy replied to mary murphy-dematteo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Look into the gastric sleeve... that's what a lot of bandsters convert to if they lose their band for some reason. The sleeve doesn't seem to be quite as drastic as bypass.
