    being banded tomorrow!

Hey everyone!! My time has come and I will finally be banded tomorrow!! I am quite nervous but VERY excited Thanks to all of you for all your support and for helping me make the best decision for me!! Tomorrow I will be on the "other" side!! I am scheduled at 12:30 pm and should leave he hospital on Wed sometime that afternoon. Will post when I return home and feel up to it! Thanks again!!
  3. I have all these feelings running through my mind right now. I am going to be banded on Tuesday and I am so excited, nervous and SCARED. I have never had any type of surgery before and as the time is winding down to my date all kinds of what if's are going through my mind. Tonight my husband and I got into an argument and I called him an insensative jerk. One of the women that is in a local support group was followed from her surgery date until 1 yr post op (she had the gastric bypass done) by one of our local news stations. They were showing the promo on tv and I told my husband I wanted to watch and support her cause she did a great job. Anyways, we were talking about that and he says to me " my friend's wife says she has heard of a lot of complications with the band and doesn't think that you should do it." My first reaction was - since you know I have done a lot of research about the band before making this decision - she wasn't talking about the band and if she was she may have it confused with the bypass. THEN it HIT me.........my husband was having a conversation about MY surgery with HIS friend and his friend's wife. I was MAD!!! I told him that I told the people that I wanted to know and anyone else didn't NEED to know - especially some people that I don't know. He had the nerve to ask me, why don't you want them to know? Do you feel self -concious about your decision? I told him no, that's not why I was mad. I was mad that he chose to take it upon himself to discuss MY personal business with HIS friends and then have the balls to tell me about it. Not only that, but to tell me that this woman says this surgery isn't safe and I could have all kinds of complications from it. Now as I stated before, I am already nervous and scared about it and then for him to tell me that made things worse. I know the band is a much safer surgery and the complications are very minimal. My surgeon is very compitent and I truly believe my faith and God will see me through. But it's still scary and he didn't help matters by saying that. I know this is a long post but I just needed to vent to people that I know will understand seeing as mu husband doesn't seem to. I really am excited about the surgery.........3 days and counting!!!! I know once everything is all done and over with I will feel silly to have worried but until then all I can say is I'm only human. Thanks for listening!!!

    pre-op diet

I am having a really hard time trying to stick to the pre-op liquid diet that they have me on. My surgery is a week from today and I have really been trying. I just don't like the protien drinks - gag - so I have been drinking water and orange juice. I have ben eating jello and soups. This sucks!!! Does anyone know something that I can do to get me through this? I must admit, I did cheat. I had a piece of bread yesterday and the day before I had a chicken tender......HELP!!!

Welcome to the board!! You and I will share our new "birth day" as I am also being banded on 11/25. This is a great board here. There are alot of knowledgeable people on this board and any questions that you have they are more than ready to give you answers, if they know it. Not to mention, everyone here is genuinly caring. This is one of the best place to be!!

A kind of embarrassing question for the women...

I had my pre-op tests and I had a female nurse that I spoke with. When I questioned her about this she said that I will NOT be allowed to wear a tampon. She said I should come with a pad on and when I get into surgery I will be on a big blue pad on top of the operating table. Now this really makes me uncomfortable but I can't really do anything as my surgery is in 11 days and I can't reschedule it now.

A kind of embarrassing question for the women...

OMG!!! I am really freaking about this right about now. It NEVER dawned on my that I may not be able to wear underware. I just assumed that I would. I too will have my period during my surgery and that is very uncomfortable for me to phathom. I do understand that the docs and rn's have seen everything under the sun but I would have like to have known this. I would have based that as one of the factors on scheduling my surgery date. Now, don't get me wrong, I am in no way shy about my body BUT during that time of the month I don't even want my HUSBAND down there let alone any strangers!!

    Waiting for approval

Just to give you a ray of hope that it may be quick.....I had my appointment on 9/25. They got all the test results and submitted to my insurance on 10/2 and by 10/14 I had my date.

    Surgery November 5th

How was the dr's appointment? You don't need a hearing aide from all the yelling, do you? :D

    Surgery November 5th

Hey guys - I went to the dietician yesterday and I start a full liquid diet on 11/16 for 1 week and then 2 days prior to the surgery on clear liquids. I guess it was the same diet you had Lulu. I was not happy with the dietician that I had yesterday at the hospital. Did you have her at all? Her name was Joan and if I didn't need to see her I would have walked out of there and wouldn't have looked back. My husband came with and he had the same impression I had. She wa very condiscending and spoke to me like I was a 2 yr old. Finally I just couldn't take it and said " Look, I have done my research on this and I know what I am doing. Either you are going to HELP me or not but either way I am not going to allow you to talk to me like I'm a child." My husband kind of looked at me like I was crazy because under normal circumstances I am very reserved and it takes a lot to push my buttons. Once I said that it was smooth sailing. Did you have any experience with her?

  13. Now it's time for the people that are being banded in NOVEMBER to stand up and give their shout out!!! This thread is just for you!!! YIPEEE.........IT"S OUR TURN!!!! Time is going by and I'm sure it will be here before I even know it! :banana :banana :banana :banana :banana :banana :banana

    Pre band jitters

Sultana ~ I can totally understand what you are saying. I will be banded on November 25th and there are a lot of things that are running through my mind........a lot of what - if's. But then I think of all the diets that I have tried and failed and then I realize by being banded I have nothing to loose trying this......but weight. For every one person that you hear that isn't loosing weight there are 5 more that are. Granted, the weight loss is slow but I would rather loose it slow and HEALTHY then to do it fast and become sick. I am 5'5 and weight 303 and if I loose 5 pounds in a month then that is 5 lbs that I don't have and are gone forever!!! As long as you follow the rules you too will loose weight!!! Don't worry about that part cause it WILL work for you. But if you aren't sure of it then I would say (and this is my opinion) don't do it until YOU feel confident in your decision.

    Pre-Op Testing Complete

I have read all about the "last supper syndrome" and I am convinced that is what I am doing as well. I tell myself that after the band I won't be able to eat it but I know after reading all the posts on here that with the exception of post op there shouldn't be too much that we can't eat. I know it's all in my head and I just have to over come that. Believe me I know what you are going though. I will be banded on November 25th and haven't gone through the pre-op tests yet but will see the dietician on the 10th and the pre-op test on the 14th. Congratualtions to all of us getting banded in November!!!:banana

  22. Lioness81970

    Yay Lulu!!!!

Well the hardest part is over ........ you're banded!! It will take a while for you to feel 100%. Take the pain meds - that's what they are there for and drink water to make your tongue feel better.....after all you will have to have liquids for awhile. You will be better tomorrpw without a doubt! Every day you are getting more and more strong and healing so stay positive!!! You will be ok!! Promise!! (just please remember to tell me that after MY surgery!! :D )

    looking for a band-buddy......

Hi - I would love to be your band buddy. I will be banded on Nov 25th in Milwaukee.
  25. Lioness81970

We've had them for Aug, Sept and Oct

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is to that one either but I can tell you that whatever tests they decide to give me I will more than welcome. I would rather have them go overboard with the testing then to have them doing the surgery and come across an "UH OH!!!!!" That's just my opinion (which would probably be different if I were a SELF PAY  )
