I live in San Diego and have co-workers and friends that live in Tijuana. I myself fly out of Tijauna airport at least once a year because the flights are cheaper. I do not speak spanish or look like I'm Mexican but I have not had any problems. Yes there are problems in Mexico but that is more in Mexico City and Juarez. The crime in Tijuana is similar to crime in parts of San Diego or LA. Believe me I am a big chicken. I would not set foot or much less fly out of Tijuana if it was dangerous. My doctor was Dr Pedro Kuri. I highly recommend him. His patient coordinator is who I had my initial consultation with and answered all my questions. If you are truly interested I can give you her phone number. She was banded by Dr Kuri in 2006 and can provide a lot of valuable insight. My surgery was a little over two weeks ago. I'm a total chicken but for some reason I didn't have anxiety. When I saw the hospital and then their clinic and met the staff it really put all my fears to rest.

Don't be afraid of Mexico. Tijuana is pretty safe. And my doctor sends a van to pick you up at either the airport or border. I wasn't afraid and we walked around town the day before. And the place I had the surgery was nicer than most American clinics I have been to.

I had mine in Mexico too. Dr Kuri at Vida Wellness Center and Hospital Angeles. I too had a great experience. My surgery was a little over two weeks ago and I'm feeling good. Incisions are healing so they are itchy but that's about it. I can get my fills in mexico if I want since I'm only about 40 minutes from the border.

Did you have it in Mexico?

I'm doing mashed potatoes tonight with yogurt butter and skim milk. I'm excited about that. First eating my protein so just expecting to be able to have a few mashed potato bites.

What kind of soft foods didmyou all eat? Today is my first day and I'm not sure what I feel like eating. Maybe chili with no beans?

Has anyone tried artichokes?

Well Long Islands do have carbonation from the coke in it. A maybe that gloats you and is what makes you feel yucky. I don't even know what I'm going to be drinking once I'm healed. I love alcohol but was mainly a beer drinker. I will probably be doing margaritas or red wine when I'm allowed. Sigh.

I don't really care for soda except when mixed with alcohol. . But I am excitedmfor the beer part. I know I can't guzzle a siz pack or anything but just knowing I can someday have a beer at an alehouse makes me happy.

Don't you get to move to mushies in a few days then? Think how great it will be. Isn't it funny how we all look forward to eating mushies? When before the band just the word sounds disgusting.

I was allowed to have low fat yogurt smoothies and pudding in the full liquid stage.

I only have a 4cc band. I was alarmed when I looked at my surgery report and found that out. My patient coordinator told me the size of the band all depends on the size of the stoma part of your stomach. Has nothing to do with a patients weight. And she said you have the same restriction ability as those with larger bands.

I would actually buy a big can of chicken noodle and then strain all the meat and noodles and carrots out. For some reason the broth from the actual soup tasted better than the regular broth from a can.

You are probably retaining fluid. I am 10 days post op and the first few days I actually gained weight. Now down 10 lbs. You just had surgery a few days ago. It will happen.

I started out decaf the first week then made 1/2 decaf 1/2 regular after. I'm in my second week and so far no stomach issues with coffee.

I would be thrilled with 20 pounds. Be proud.

I only had to do them for 3days and then full liquids like cream soup and watered down cream of wheat the next 2weeks. When I was on clear I had miso soup to break up the monotony. I just didn't eat the soy cubes.

Never thought I could be so ridiculously so excited about eating Cream Of Wheat or a chocolate protein drink. Does anyone have any hints? If it's liquids do I need to limit myself to half cups as I would with solid food or mushies?

Dr. Pedro Kuri. I did my labs at Hospital Angeles and then had surgery at Vida Wellness Center. It was a beautiful place. I was very impressed.

You can drink beer? Since it's carbonated I was told I could never have again. That is the biggest thing I will mourn.

Right now I'm eating cream of chicken soup with a lot of milk. Haven't put anything in the blender. So far so good. What dr in Mexico were you banded with?
