    January Surgery Bandsters Group

Congrats Nicole on your weight loss! Erin, I went for my 1 month post op appt. last Thursday and expected to get a fill since I was so hungry and all. I had to drink barium while they ran their test and then the dr. said my band is in a good spot and I have some restriction. Therefore, he said I don't need a fill this month. I have been eating about 3 times a day but he told me to eat 6 small meals a day. Every doctor is different but it's helped me with my hunger so much. He took me off carbs (breads, cereal, rice, pasta) but I wasn't really on them since surgery anyway. It's all proteins and veggies for the next month and a little fruit if I need something sweet. I have been able to eat anything I want as well, but like others have said, it's not worth it. I've been restricted twice now on a bite of toast and some shredded roast beef that I thought I could have. Big mistakes. I felt so much pressure like someone was sitting on my chest. I am now doing a food diary and it's helping a lot. Plus, I am walking 3 miles per day and it's been great. I did gain 3 lbs. since the 2 week appt. but that was because of full liquids and I was so sick. Now that I'm eating food of course I am going to gain weight. I'm down to 10 lbs. total and I'm fine with that. That's a healthy weight to lose in a month. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I've been reading a lot of the posts from recently and I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling hungry so often! It's been awful. I know I haven't had a fill yet, but I really didn't think it would be this bad. I get full quickly and mine too is at around the 2 hr. mark. Sometimes it lasts 3 hrs. depending if i've had a little more protein for that meal. But, I keep wanting to snack and I force myself not too. I did that before lap band and I don't want to get back in that rut. I've tried to keep myself busy to get my mind off of it. I've been walking around the neighborhood a lot (up to about 3 miles now) and I feel good. Tomorrow is my 1 month post op appt. and possibly my first fill. I hope the fill helps me with the hunger but only time will tell. I can't believe it's been 4 weeks already. I'm a little nervous that I'm not going to be seeing a good weight loss on the scale this time since I'm starting to eat food now and I'm not sick like I was the first week. I'm not going to beat myself up too much about it. We will see what tomorrow brings!

Hello! I went to my first post op appt. today (it will be 2 weeks tomorrow) and I've lost 9 lbs. since surgery day! I am sure a lot of that is from being so sick last week. I feel great and have been walking every day this week. I go back in two weeks for my first fill. I also get to start the mushy stage tomorrow and soft, solid food next week! I am so excited after last week's pure liquid hell, lol. I hope everyone is doing good.

Hi fellow bandsters, I've been off here for a few days because I was sooooo sick. Ugh. It's amazing how some people have no problems and others have a bunch. Well, I got the bad luck I guess. Thanks to my nurse at my doctors office, I feel human again. I was banded on 1/20 and posted on here last week a few times how sick I was and hated the liquid protein drinks. Yuck. Started on the protein shakes and did a lot better, but still sick. Last Thursday, I felt like the exorcist was possessing my body. It was horrible. I was in the bathroom from 6 pm to almost 2:30 am. Got 4 hrs. of sleep. Called dr. Friday and they let me go ahead and start eating Activia yogurt and mixing it with the protein shake. You have to have the high protein but it was stripping me of everything. I needed to get the good bacteria back in my digestive system. Started feeling a bit better Friday night but still pretty bad. I started adding a probiotic with the yogurt to help (per my dr.) and now I have energy and feel better. My first post op appt. is Thursday. They let me eat cream soups and 1 bite of a soft scrambled egg (it was the best tasting thing I had in a long time lol) and everything I eat is staying put. Friday I get to start pureed foods. I think I finally turned the corner of this going on the right track now. I don't regret my surgery decision but last week there were a few days where I questioned myself. I hung in there! It will be interesting to see on Thursday how much I've lost so far.

Day 3 On Liquids And Crazy

Jennabe, I'm day 4 post op and having hunger too. My hubby's been gone away on business (he comes back tonight) but he eats in the other room and has been eating things I really don't like this past weekend. Maybe you can ask them to go in another room and tell them how you are feeling. They need to support you! I have no tips on hunger right now. I've eaten some jello and popsicles and it helps for a few minutes. Saturday I can start full liquid with pudding and yogurt which I hope will help. I have no advice on what will help since I'm in the same boat with you. Good luck and stay strong! It's hard right now.

Hi everyone, day 4 post op and today has been the best day since I came home from the hospital Saturday. It's been brutal. I've had diarrhea (sorry everyone) and the gas pain is still here. Today was only a few times in the bathroom, yay! I walked a bit but still taking some pain meds as the gas pressure is killing me and I have a slight headache now. My hubby has been on business since Monday (he comes home tonight) and it's been hard not having his support here. My dog has helped a little. Anyway, the liquid protein was KILLING me to drink so I caved last night and started sipping protein shakes. I'm not supposed to have them until Saturday but I need my protein and Isopure makes me want to throw up. It's been a lot better. I sip them slowly and only have 2 oz. every hour. Still not really helping with my hunger though. I can't wait for week 3 when I can have pureed food! Mashed potatoes and soft scrambled eggs are on my list and I hope I can tolerate them. Heck, Saturday I can start on pudding and yogurt, looking forward to that! Stay strong everyone, I've sure needed it. The beginning I think is the toughest part.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I was banded on 1/21. This has not been easy for me. I was pretty good at the hospital, they gave me meds for sickness due to anesthesia (due to past surgeries). I only vomited once Saturday night after getting home and I think it was still because of anesthesia. My problem now is gas, diarrhea and having trouble getting my fluids in. I am supposed to be on clear liquid protein until Saturday, but I'm so hungry and hate the Isopure protein drinks. They are so artificially sweet and cutting them with water still makes them sick to my stomach. I had a lot of protein on Sunday so I think I may have overdone it. Now the gas and diarrhea started yesterday and it's not as bad today as I went to 50g protein (my minimum recommended amount). I caved tonight and made a protein shake with just water and am sipping 2 oz. slowly every 15 min. If this doesn't work by tomorrow, I guess I will have to call my doctor again. I don't want to get dehydrated and have to go back to the hospital. I called the nurse yesterday and she said I was doing good and to monitor my bathroom problems. We will see. My husband comes back from a business trip tomorrow so he will help me with support. It's hard emotionally to do it alone. Good luck to everyone and hope we all feel better quickly!

    So Frustrated...

I was banded 1/21 and my hubby has been scared to eat in front of me. He asks if it's ok and he's been eating things I don't like thankfully. Most of the things I like are smelling really bad right now to me, but I'm so hungry and the commercials, etc. on tv are killing me! I keep distracting myself from it. I know it's going to get better but it is tough this first week. Have you talked to your family and asked them to not eat that stuff in front of you? Tell them how your feeling, they should respect that. Good luck.
  9. I get the protein powders starting Sat. for week 2. I had them before surgery and loved them with some peanut butter blended in, I hope I can tolerate them now. I had researched this and kind of knew it, but NOTHING but water tastes good to me right now. The gas is still here journey4me. The gas pain from the lap surgery settled in my left shoulder blade and is painful, today it's in my left side of my neck and chest. I can't wait for that to go away. I have no pain from the incision or anything, just gas. My stomach rumbles non-stop. I've also had diarrhea today but I think that's from overdoing it on the liquid protein yesterday. My dr. recommends 50 g per day, yesterday I did close to 80. Today I did only 50 so we will see what tomorrow brings. I called the nurse and she said not to worry yet. I'm doing good with fluid according to her. I know this will probably be my toughest week since it's the beginning. I am really looking forward to the protein shakes and hope I can tolerate them rather than this Isopure or bullets, blech!
  10. Hi, my name is Jennifer and I just got my lap band on Friday, 1/21/12. I had the SILS procedure and stayed overnight in hospital. Looking forward to discussing lots of things on this site with everyone. I'm having a hard time with the clear liquid diet as the clear Isopure protein drinks are a bit sweet. I've been cutting them with water so it's not too sweet. I just know that this is the really hard part and hopefully each week will get better once I can have more and more. Saturday I can start with protein shakes and full liquid, yay!
  11. Hi Cece, I am a military spouse (hubby retired USAF). We are now at Camp Lejeune, NC (hubby is a contractor now). Anyway, I had no problems with Tricare. I went to the bariatric appointment first, then got my referral from my PCM. It only took a few weeks for me. I just had my surgery on Friday 1/21 in Raleigh. It's about 2 hrs. away from base, but wasn't too big of a deal. I started the whole process in October and everything was finished with Tricare by Dec. 30 - start to finish. Some insurance companies want a 6 mo. to year diary on your past dieting, but Tricare does not. I think if you had other insurance, it would take a lot longer. This is day 3 of clear liquids and yes, it is hard, but I know it's going to get better once I can start eating some food! lol Good luck!
