  1. I don't know what medicine you can take. I do know that you should tell your doctor you've been sick and what medicines you have taken when you go in on Monday.
  2. Yes, but that is probably part of what helped you get into bad shape. It's hard work to change habits to support a new life.

    Thirsty Anyone?

Mio in ice water! My favorite is the mango/peach flavor.

    This Girl!

    Congratulations!
  5. Jay Robb's Pina Colada is great mixed with lime, orange or raspberry jello. Definitely tastes tropical. Perhaps it is good on its own, but I haven't tried.

    Swimming

When my incisions were completely healed, my doctor approved all exercise including swimming. That was at four weeks. I go to deep water aerobics five days a week at an indoor pool at our local city recreation center. Glorious.
  9. I could have gone to work after one week, but lots of folks on here have shared their stories of complications and discomfort at that point. You are taking your chances. The scars are minimal, but isn't the point of the surgery to improve our health and the quality of our lives? Scars would seem to take a back seat when compared to a goal like that.
  10. I was on the Atkins diet and lost 60 pounds. It really helped my health; the doctor was close to dancing in the exam room. I wasn't able to keep the weight off, though, and gained 75 pounds back. Atkins is great. Sticking to it for life is more than hard.

    Almost Here...

Kellie, What a shame about the heartburn and reflux. I didn't know water could cause it. I'm surprised about the diet coke, but it's wonderful you found something that doesn't cause you pain.
  12. I thought we weren't supposed to get hungry. I never have.

    Pecans?

    Thanks for that great idea.

    Hmm

If you can't get your fluid in, try grazing on water. Add MIO flavoring to a glass of water with ice and it tastes as though you have had something substantial.

    Pecans?

My nutritionist agreed with crystalintville. They have tons of fat and she cautioned us to only have a few.

    Backed Out..so Far

My family situation was nowhere near as challenging as yours, but, in my opinion, dealing with the short term challenges is well worth the long term benefits. I was called out of the blue and told to report for surgery in one week. They had a cancellation. I thought I had two or three months and was shocked it was so soon. I was frightened but got over it by remembering the reasons for the surgery. My health was good, too, but probably not for long. If you really want the surgery, do it. Only 3 out of 1,000 (.003) die within one month of it, but 16.6 percent of all deaths are due to complications of obesity. Do whatever you think is best, but please don't use your family as an excuse.

    Guilt

I can't say I felt that way, but I can say it is time to do this for you and your family. It sounds as though you are always taking care of others. All right then, take care of you for them. What would their lives be like if you died prematurely from complications of obesity? Would they be able to take care of you if your health problems required it? My hospital stay was two days and it sounds as though most others had the same experience. You will be home in no time. My recovery at home was very uneventful and I could resume many activities after one day. Best of luck to you as you make your decision.

    Backed Out..so Far

Cancelling on the operating room at the last minute is a big deal for the hospital and for your doctor. You waited until it was too late for them to schedule someone else.Take time to decide. If you want to go through with it, I hope your doctor will reschedule. Best of luck to you. I hope you figure it all out.

    Backed Out..so Far

The possibility of dying during this surgery is miniscule compared to the possibility of dying from being obese. For every 1,000 patients, three, or .003, die during or within a month of their surgery, whereas 16.6 of ALL deaths are the result of poor diet and physical inactivity. When considering the surgery please remember you are doing it to be alive and healthy. It is, however, a decision you need to make for yourself and need to take seriously. I had some trepidations a week before the surgery but I have never once in the two and a half months since my surgery been sorry I did it.

    Heatial Hernia

My surgeon told me more patients need it than not. He said it is considered a normal part of the surgery. My PCP said more than 50% of adults have it and that it generally does not have symptoms.
  25. I don't, but I suggest mixing your crushed medicines with food. I used pudding, which my doctor considers a liquid.
