I was mistaken about the scope of the Supreme Court ruling. The Supreme Court did rule that FMLA does not cover time off for illness of the employee, but the decision only applies to states and their employees. It does not cover employees in the private sector. It may well be that a private sector case will make it to the Supreme Court at some point and they may rule that FMLA does not cover any employee who needs time off to take care of their own medical issues, but that does not mean companies will choose to change their policies, because the interpretation, while supported by flaws in the law, does not pass the common sense test. So, I apologize. Anyone needing FMLA for their own care is safe for at least some years and, in the meantime, perhaps Congress will change the law to make it clearer.

I've had the Bariatic Advantage multi-vitamin and the calcium. The multi-vitamin tasted horrendous to me. Could not take more than one and gave the bottle away. They are also expensive. The advantage to the multi-vitamin is that you only have to take one a day. My nutritionist suggested the Centrum multivitamin or Flintstones childrens' multivitamins.

The courts recently ruled that FMLA covers leave to take care of family members, but does not cover leave for illness for the employee him/herself. Talk about crazy.

I have the bubbles, but not the growling. It only happens when I have eaten a little too much. -
List Of Can/can't Eat Foods...
notime replied to Parker's Dad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said not to eat bread or rice. She said it expanded in the stomach. I have eaten small amounts of each without problem. With the exception of sugar, I eat whatever everyone else is eating, just mini portions. -
Kellie, How did it go with the doctor? Please let us know.

Happy birthday, Sheila, and congratulations on the weight loss. I've found my tastes in foods have changed, too. No more junk stuff for me.

Although I knew I would need to buy some more clothes as I dropped weight, I had been putting it off. Today my smallest pair of jeans fell down when I was gardening in the front yard. I don't believe anyone was around to see it and I find it hilarious, but tomorrow I am off to the stores.

How is everyone doing in this heat? I find it hard to get any exercise except swimming!

Sounds like a great doctor. Good luck, but I know you won't need it.

Am I Going To Have To Drink Protein Shakes Rest Of My Life
notime replied to lowe1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed fruity Protein powder with Jello and got fluids and protein out of it. Jay Robb Pina Colada powder was great with lime or orange jello. The Syntrax Fuzzy Navel and the Isopure Orange MinaT mentioned above would probably be good with jello, too. I also ate Fage Plain Greek Yogurt, which tastes like sour cream. It doubles as a Fluid and a protein, with 23 grams of protein for a cup, so even 1/4 or 1/2 cup gives some good protein. -

Dominoes Thin Crust Pizza?
notime replied to bethnc1970's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rarely have pizza, but when I do I take one piece and scrape the toppings off the crust. I'm able to eat maybe half of the toppings and throw the crust away. -
Well, the protein drink and the yogurt, which I assume was low fat and plain, are considered fluids. It is not unreasonable to be able to have them in an hour and a half. I have no idea about your symptoms.

It definitely is normal. You had major surgery this week, just take it easy. You'll have lots of energy soon.

I'm glad you feel better about your choice. All of us have gone through doubt on our way to the sleeve. In the end, we, too, decide there is no other option. -
Has Any One Here Had To Have A Lipoma Removed After Surgery?

I had one and it was in the exact same place yours is, but I had the surgery several years ago. It was performed outpatient and I went back to work after a few days. -
Having Trouble Keeping Food Down
notime replied to Kat1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it possible you are eating too much? I only had the problem once, but that is exactly how it was. Looking back on it, I realized I had eaten too much even though too much was four small bites. -

By all means, delay your surgery for a short time if you are unsure, but consider these points. --All of us have been concerned, anxious or even scared before having the surgery. We all think about the permanent changes in diet and the loss of part of our body. --I believe that the bad side effects discussed on this board are infrequent. People tend not to think or talk about good outcomes because there is nothing to say about them; nothing to ask about. I had no difficulty. Sure I was sore for a week and a half, but it was minimal and I didn't need pain medicine after my first day in the hospital. I've had eating challenges. At first it was hard to get in enough Protein, but I adapted to it. --hair falling out is nothing compared to dying early due to the effects of being overweight or of not being able to do the things other people do because of weight. In addition, in my experience the hair loss is minimal and temporary. The hair thins and then it grows in again. For me, when I became terrified about having the surgery, I reminded myself about the reasons for having it and each time came to the conclusion that I had no choice. This was the last option for me. I had tried the others. I made my decision and have never been sorry about it. You must make your own decision, however. -
Good luck. Keep us posted.

Questions To Ask My Dr When I Talk To Him Tonight
notime replied to Jlewis229's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could ask about the pre-surgery testing you will need, the usual hospital period, the length of the pre-surgery liquid diet, and the timing of the post-surgery diet stages. -
Having no support is more than difficult. I'm glad you came here where lots of support is available. Have you gone through the whole approval process yet?
