    Question About Timing

It seems from all your comments that you have answered your own question!

    Jewelry During Surgery

Why would you wear jewelry for surgery? In general, this is the process:You will have to take it off for the surgery and it will be put in an envelope and given to security to store. When you are leaving the hospital, you will have to go to security to sign out the jewelry. In addition to the opportunities for someone to take the jewelry, there is the added aggravation of having to go through the process of getting it back when you are ready to leave.

Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time

My doctor says that about 50% of the US population has hiatal hernia. Obviously, they aren't all lining up for surgery. I believe a person needs to have problems related to the hernia before most insurance companies will pay for it.

    Pre-Op Diet

I know what you mean. Keep concentrating on the health and quality of life factors that led you to this surgery and realize you have no other options. Once I did that, the nervousness disappeared.
  7. The New England Journal of Medicine addressed the positive medical side of bypass including decreases in heart disease.

    Almost Here...

Naomi, What is going on with you? We all hope you are doing well. We haven't heard from you and would like an update.
  9. Keep your eyes on the prize. I assume you are doing this for a healthier you and improved quality of life. Keep remembering that and also remind yourself that you have no options. I didn't say goodbye to anyone. It seemed that focusing on the remote possibility that something would happen to me would make the nervousness worse. Besides, what good would a goodbye do? If you were to die, it wouldn't make any difference to you and it wouldn't make any difference to anyone else because they would be distraught anyway. You will do fine.
  10. I have never had a protein shake. I began eating with Fage Greek yogurt, which has 23 grams of protein per cup and also counts as a fluid and I added other proteins. My nutritionist said to get all proteins from food as soon as possible and to definitely be off all protein supplements by six months.

My pants fell down when I was in the front yard gardening and I wasn't embarassed at all!

    Any Bakers, Chefs, Cooks?

You're just going to have to go cold turkey. I would suggest stopping now so it is no longer a bad eating habit when you are sleeved.
  13. And mine said 60 grams a day for life. They each have a little bit different diet.

    Gaining Weight Back

I've heard that a lot of people gain 15 or 20 pounds back after reaching goal weight and that some others gain more than that. I think it's more a question of what you eat, not how much you eat.

    First Dr Visit Yesterday

Yes. Don't obsess about it. It is not terrible. It is not a big deal and is necessary for you to get to the goal: a healthier you. The same is true of the post-op diet. Many people gripe and complain about it, but it isn't anything really and is only for a short time in a whole lifetime. Think about the new you and wean yourself from habits that will need to be changed once sleeved, for example, gradually stop drinking coffee and soft drinks and purge your house of foods you won't/shouldn't eat once sleeved. That will make your transition easier.

    "are You Sick?"

    Congratulations!
  17. Why not? I would suggest building up your stamina by exercising a lot every day before you go, especially walking.

I Think I Am Going Nuts

Get some fiction, too! Why not enjoy your time off.
  19. I have often suggested carrying around a picture of you at or near your highest weight. When you get tempted, bring out the picture and look at it.
  20. Try Gas X strips for the gas pain.

I Think I Am Going Nuts

It is normal to eat only a small amount and for your tastes to change. At home, read a book, take a walk and/or go back to work!

    Sleeve Before College! Yikes

Just stick to what your nutritionist told you to do and you will do fine. Keep a picture in your purse of you at or near your heaviest weight. When you feel tempted, take it out and look at it. That should help keep you on the straight and narrow!
  23. Everyone has a different experience, but let me share mine. I had pain when I woke up after surgery. My first word was "pain." They must have given me something because I went to sleep, woke up and never had pain again, not even the gas pain so many people post about. I took no additional painkiller in the hospital, no pain medicine at home. It was a little uncomfortable getting out of bed in the mornings, but once out of bed, I was good to go. I took it easy at home and when I went on an errand run (I didn't drive.) about five days out, I was exhausted in no time. Gradually I gained my strength back. Picking up your one year old may be a problem as doctors typically limit the weight you are allowed to lift. Good luck! You will do fine.

    Feeling Sick After I Eat

I think that's normal. I'm three months out and that's still all I can eat at one sitting. Just make sure you take tiny amounts, chew it thoroughly and eat very slowly.
  25. If you don't mind losing it, take it along. Not because it's Mexico, but because it may be lost when you take it off for surgery.
