    To All Nervous Pre Opers

I woke up in recovery with awful pain. My first word was "pain." They must have treated it because the next time I woke up I was in my room and painfree. From then on I had no pain, never used the drip and took no pain medicine at home.

    Dinner Trouble

What about the quantity of your food at dinner? Too much will definitely have you hanging your head over the bowl.
  4. Not exactly. I was given only nine days notice of the surgery date and went into a panic because I had expected to have a couple more months. The list of reasons to have the surgery was what calmed me down, though. I realized I had no real options.
  5. Good luck in your ruminations. You will figure out the right thing for you.
  6. Try writing down the reasons for having the surgery: improved health, longer life, better quality of life, etc. When you start second-guessing yourself, pull out the list. Only you can decide whether to get the surgery, but that was what helped me decide and stick with it.

    Calcium

If you're a woman, you should be taking calcium anyway.

    Almost Here...

You'll get there, Joni. I have a narrow column, too. It doesn't really bother me though.

    Gallbladder :-(

For me, the gallbladder surgery was a breeze. Right after the surgery I was up doing everything except lifting anything over 15 pounds. There was really no pain. Because fat content is directly related to calories, you are most likely eating a lowfat diet already. After your gallbladder surgery, you should be able to eat anything you can eat with the sleeve. There were no food restrictions for me. I don't know what the requirements will be relative to your job. Don't stress over this, you will do fine.

    Almost Here...

I am starting with a personal trainer and have been doing some hiking at a beautiful state park. I'm not able to hike very far and the personal trainer will be shocked at how out of shape I am, but I have to start somewhere. What are all of you doing for exercise?

    Almost Here...

I'm here. How is the gallbladder problem? I hope you haven't gotten into the pain stage. You have a heap of responsibilities and duties, is all going well? I think about you and your situation often.

    What To Drink?

Probably not what you are looking for, but I drink water with ice.
  13. Try drinking a glass of water when you wake up at night. Sometimes we interpret thirst as hunger.

    Constipstion Remedies?

For the longer term, my doctor recommended taking Benefiber every day. It takes a month or so to kick in but it works. Drug stores carry their own brand of this. I got mine at Walmart.
  15. Congratulations. Even the soreness can feel good when it goes with an accomplishment.

Am I Hoping For Too Much?

You have the spirit. Just keep on working towards the goal. Whatever happens, you will be healthier for it.

    Just Need To Vent.

What a burden you are carrying. My heart goes out to you. Although there is no way to ease the pain of having lost children, I hope your weight loss will help you in the future. I know you didn't go this way in the post and I am reluctant to bring up something that is unrelated to your very real and painful situation, but I feel I must. Is it possible that the injuries of your cousin's children may be from child abuse rather than neglect? If you suspect that, I encourage you to call your state's version of a child welfare department. No child should be subjected to the physical and emotional pain of abuse.

    Dealing With Anxiety And Panic?

Don't know if this will work for you, but I thought about the health reasons for getting the surgery, which reminded me I had no option other than this. Without the surgery, I was likely to have severely reduced quality of life and early death. Compared to that, any small risk of serious problems due to the surgery was well worth it. As a result of looking at those facts, my resolve was strengthened and the panic disappeared.
  19. Don't take much with you. You most likely will not be allowed to lift anything more than 10 or 15 pounds.
  20. Welcome to the site. Most people are nervous before surgery. Keep remembering the health benefits of the surgery, the potentially longer life and the improved quality of life. I did that and realized I had no other option. From then on I was resolute and not nervous. Hang in there; it is worth it. I don't have a specific brand to recommend, but look for a brand that has whey protein as its protein ingredient.

    Meds

I had to crush one of my pills and it tasted horrible even mixed with chocolate pudding, but that doesn't answer your question. I only needed to go off some of my pills and take liquid forms of the others for three weeks. I'm sure others have had different experiences. My liquid medicines didn't taste bad.
  22. Thank you for sharing this information with us.
  23. Congratulations to you for asking for help! You have received a lot of good advice here already.
  24. I had a tough time at the hospital, but the nurses were there to help me and they were wonderful. The day I went home I mostly slept. After that I could have taken care of myself with some advance preparation although I was glad to have my husband home to help me out. I go along with those who say having him home right after you come home is the best. If that is not possible, you will probably do alright alone the week after surgery. This advice assumes you do not have very young children who need to be picked up and otherwise taken care of. If you have young children, in my opinion, you will need someone with you right after you get home the first week and the next week, too.
  25. I was approved right away.
