  1. I didn't have that problem, but I do have one suggestion for getting some protein inside you. Try adding the protein to something else that goes down easy, such as, one scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder in no sugar added hot chocolate. Add fruit flavored protein powder to instant sugar free jello and make it according to the regular directions. When your doctor allows pudding, add chocolate or vanilla protein powder to sugar free instant pudding mix and make it according to the regular directions.

    Having a rough time

What an experience. In addition to whatever else you do for constipation, make sure you drink your full requirement of fluids each day. My nutritionist said the daily bm routine generally changes once sleeved and that they will likely be two or three days apart. Good luck.
  3. Please call your surgeon. It seems to me that having that come on suddenly at six weeks after surgery is a sign the doctor should be notified.

    Does the drain hurt

It didn't hurt me. It was removed on day three before I left the hospital and removal didn't hurt either.

    Pre-op questions

Hopefully your financial situation will allow you to have the surgery earlier, but your work resumption plan sounds reasonable as long as you have an uneventful surgery and recovery. The benefit of GNC is that anything you don't like can be returned for a full refund, perhaps saving you money in the end. When I moved to soft foods after one week, I stopped regularly using Protein powder, finding ways to get my protein from real food. I only use it occasionally and even then I add it to other food rather than using it as a self-contained food source. My doctor requires 60 grams of protein each day with a maximum of 25 at any one time. The nutritionist said our bodies can only absorb so much protein at a time. I am also required to get at least 64 ounces of Fluid each day.
  6. If one's doctor says it is alright, it is alright.

    Monthly Cost for Protein?

After my first week, I got most of my protein from normal food.

    Getting around after surgery

Good point! I was allowed soft foods after one week. Maybe that is why I was able to be out and about so quickly.

    out of ideas

I couldn't do the protein drinks either. Try plain lowfat Greek yogurt; add fruit flavored protein powder (I like Jay Robb pina colada from GNC) to fruit jello mix and prepare the normal way; add some vanilla or chocolate protein powder to vanilla or chocolate pudding mix and prepare the normal way.

    Water

Before surgery, water was my drink of choice. After surgery, it affected me the same as it does you. After a month or so, though, water tasted great again. Hang in there.

    Vitamins Supplements Timing

Allow two hours between the calcium and Iron. It is an absorption issue, not a matter of preference. Thanks for alerting me to the Synthroid/calcium situation. I will have to rethink my medication schedule.

    Getting around after surgery

No problem if your recovery is similar to mine.
  13. Often I order a healthy appetizer. Other times I order a full meal and take the leftovers home to have the healthy parts the next day or even couple of days. I do not let anyone else eat the unhealthy parts of the meal because, if it is bad for me, it is bad for them. I don't want anyone putting on weight because I am losing it. I do not feel uncomfortable ordering or eating small amounts or taking leftovers home. I am proud of it.

    Scopolamine patch

I used the patch starting the night before surgery and had an unusual reaction: it made me so nauseous by the day of surgery that I couldn't even stand, much less walk. One of the surgical nurses told me to take it off and wash the area and my hands well. Even then I could not walk and my husband had to practically carry me out of the house to the car for the trip to the hospital. Once there, I needed a wheel chair to get around the hospital to the surgery center. As I said, this was an unusual reaction but it doesn't hurt to be prepared in case it is your reaction, too.

    Calling all Cooks

My tastes have not changed at all. Sometimes when a person can not tolerate a certain food after surgery, their taste for it returns later.
  17. You can do this. I was the opposite of you. As long as the surgery was in the somewhat distant future, I was fine. The office called and scheduled the surgery early with only two weeks notice. Then I went into panic mode for about a day. Well, I did it and I am ecstatic. I'm looking forward to hearing your "after" stories.
  18. Hooray! Make sure they guide you to the correct section in your insurance policy so you can print it out to have paper documentation.

    Skin Creme recommendations?

The younger you are, the more elastic the skin. There is no potion to reduce hanging skin. I use Cera Ve for dry skin.
  20. Take a breath. Yes, your doctor can give you weight loss information. There is no reason she wouldn't know how to lose weight. On this board, all are or have been overweight, yet I bet 90% of us know and knew before contemplating the surgery how to lose weight, including exercising and eating healthy foods in reasonable portions. You are depressed and it appears to me you are having trouble forming a workable plan. Please forgive me for saying that. I am trying to help. For many, many years, I was depressed, too. Having a workable plan that set a goal and laid out the necessary steps to getting there would have been what I needed. My suggestion is that you find out exactly what your policy requires and comply with that. Doing so will help ensure you don't have further disappointments down the road. It is likely that your insurance requires a doctor supervised weight loss program of six months and that the supervised program must be documented in your doctor's notes every month for six months, necessitating six visits to your doctor over the six month period. If that is so, Weight Watchers may not be of any help to you and you should make an appointment with your doctor to see if she can supervise you for the six month weight loss program. Many of us did this and you can, too. You can get started tomorrow with your insurance company and with scheduling doctors appointments if you are of a mind to do so. Again, I just mean to help. If your insurance has different requirements than I discussed here, you will need another workable plan. Please don't go off in unproductive directions. It will only lead to more negativity and depression. You can do this.
  21. I know that isn't want you want to hear, but maybe it is the best advice. In any event, even if you are pursuing surgery in Mexico it might make sense to start the six month weight loss program. That leaves your options open in case some other problem crops up.
  22. You can talk to your surgeon's insurance person. He/she may know the requirements or, if not, will likely know how to handle this situation.

    Scared of...

Judging from what I have read on here before, the "What was I thinking?" phase will be over soon unless you have major complications. The phase lasted a few hours for me.
  24. You can do this. We are and will be with you.
