I have told only those who need to know. In part it is because I believe health issues are my business, not anyone else's. The other part is that I don't believe most people would be interested in knowing and, while I'm sure no one would be rude, some would be embarassed and wouldn't have any idea about how to respond. There have been times someone I don't know very well starts in about their personal business--health, financial, relationship, etc.--and I am very uncomfortable. Of course, each of us must decide what is best for them.

Dealing with mother's opposition (or not dealing...)
notime replied to Healthygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome. I understand your reluctance to tell your mom. I was 62!!!! when I had my surgery and didn't tell my mother until it was over! I suggest you do tell her after the surgery and when she starts in on you just tell her to move on because it is too late. She does sound impossible. Fortunately, my mother was very supportive when I finally told her. I hope yours will be, too. -
A couple of points: --Do not buy a lot of Protein drinks or powders. You may not like them and you will be able to get your protein from food once you are allowed to eat regular food. --Because you may not like the protein supplement you buy, either be determined to use it and not waste it or buy from a place like GNC which gives full refunds on products you don't like. Those stores are more expensive but may end up costing less if you become picky after surgery. --Once past the protein supplement stage you will find that you save big time on groceries and restaurants.

One idea: Try using your vitamin supplements as your snacks. Space out your iron and calcium supplements over the course of the work day.

Please call your doctor. I am not implying this is serious, but I do believe a doctor is the person to answer this question.

I was not interested in having my insides rerouted and was concerned about the long-term malabsorption problems I had heard about with the bypass. I wanted to lose weight and was willing to take a little longer to get to goal than it might have taken with the bypass.

Wonderful apology. It would have been easy to walk away, do a disappearing act, and sign up as someone else, but you didn't.

What type of fish can I eat a semi large portion?
notime replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you eat a large portion and throw up, I don't think your business associates will be positively impressed. Sorry for being so graphic. -
Two weeks for me

Welcome. You've had quite an experience. I hope the rest will be downhill for you. Read as many of the previous and current posts as you can and ask questions freely. Many people will be glad to help you.

I was not his patient, but have BCBS Fed. They approved me within a day of meeting the requirements and paid all but $100. My experience could not have been better.

Post holiday muzing (Is that the right word?)

Only because you asked: musing is the correct spelling and you used the word properly. Nice post. -
Wean yourself from caffeine.

Pasta takes up room in your tummy without giving you the nutrition you need. Worse yet, it is a carb and calorie bomb; a healthier mac and cheese is still not healthy. My nutritionist requires me to have 60 grams of protein and limited me to 800 calories a day It doesn't take a lot of food to equal 800 calories and it is important to get those calories from foods that are high in protein. The sleeve helps you eat less but just as important is what you are eating. Because you do not have a nutritionist, I suggest you research bariatric nutrition online and follow some of the bariatric menus/recipes blogs such as theworldaccordingtoeggface which Jerseygirl recommended. The food and nutrition section of this forum is also good.

I think it depends on the doctor. Mine would say to go ahead. He approved me for anything after three weeks.

Eating out! How do you sleevers do it?

My nutritionist said I was to have no carbonated drinks ever. -
black stool can't get a call fom my doc

Did you take any Pepto-Bismol or a larger than usual quantity of iron? -
This is normal. You will be glad you had the surgery. Good luck to you.
-
I eyeball it. Three ounces is the size of a pack of cards, so from that I guesstimate what two ounces is.
-
That's very normal. You will do well. See you on the other side.
-
Three ounces is about the size of a deck of cards.

As others have said, he is insecure. He is selfish and has also become unreliable. Perhaps it's time to depend less on him for drinks and snacks, for one example. I know that is easier said than done, but it looks as though you are in this without him. I hope this works out for you.

What do you measure with the scale?
-
Same with mine.
