How To Protect Your Food From Co-workers
notime commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I agree with TES. I wouldn't keep my food in the fridge. It has nothing to do with cleanliness and everything to do with keeping healthy by eating the healthy foods brought from home. Pack your food to keep cold in your own space, not in the communal fridge. -
Just to be on the safe side, call the doctor's office about your problem urinating.

Don't let it get to you. This surgery is about you!!!!!!!!

I can't find the study that recommends 500 sleeves. Did I miss it? -
I agree with the others that you should go ahead and do the diet. The pre-op diet is not a big deal. The time you spend on it is less than a blip in the course of your life. Try not to focus on it. It is just one more box you have to check off before the surgery.

That's exactly right. See your doctor every time you have a skin infection so the problems caused by your excess skin will be documented.

I would stick with the program the doctor gave. My doctor had me on pureed food after one week but I know many others have different policies.

What's the pain like?
notime replied to Melissa1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't sugar coat it. In the moment I woke up from surgery, I had serious intense pain. I spoke one word, "pain." They must have immediately given me something because it was gone. Just that one minute. I never had any real pain after that. It hurt for a few days whenever I would put stress on my stomach muscles, such as when getting out or into bed, other than that, nothing. I took no pain medication after being released from the hospital. -
It's perfectly normal to have doubts. When you do, remind yourself of why you are having the surgery. In my case, it was for better health. Since the surgery the results of my lab tests have all, and I do mean every one of them, have been within the normal range. I couldn't be happier about my surgery and glad I didn't let doubts get in the way of having it.

Four weeks out. On the other hand, I had a perfect recovery and my doctor cleared me for all exercise at four weeks out. If I were you, I would ask my doctor.

No. Shampoos work externally, on the outside of the skin. The hair loss is due to internal factors, the direct result of the surgery such as shock, anesthesia, etc. or nutritional deficiencies such as protein, zinc, etc. Also, according to medical studies, biotin does not reduce hair loss.
-
I gave up alcohol entirely because of the empty calories.

Mix some fruit flavored protein powder with jello mix before you make it. Also, I was eating scrambled and poached eggs at that point. Maybe your doctor allows that as well.

I, too, have kept the information close. Only family know about my surgery. I was sleeved 14 months ago and have told those who remark on my weight loss that I have been dieting and exercising, which is certainly true.

Possible complications?
notime replied to calebbridwell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please call your doctor. -
I don't think either of us was saying the information here wasn't helpful. I was saying that the negative experiences of others didn't paralyze me or give me second thoughts in deciding to have the surgery.
-
I never had second thoughts. I read a notice about a bariatric surgery orientation class, attended and never looked back. Fortunately for me, my surgery and recovery were uneventful and I began living a normal life within a week of surgery and was allowed normal food after one month. I think few have bad experiences, but they need support and so they post here. Good for them. I wouldn't have let that keep me from having the surgery, however, because, according to my doctors, the dangers from being grossly overweight are greater than the dangers from the surgery. So, yes, I definitely agree with you.
-
I'm not a doctor. If that happened to me, I would see a dermatologist posthaste.
-
Judging from previous posts, most people lose some amount of hair afterwards. I lost lots of it. I didn't get too concerned, because it is a temporary condition.
-
Yes, sounds like too much protein powder. I gather it was dry and grainy?
-
I was approved for eggs at one week. Didn't have a problem, although I couldn't eat a whole one, of course. Enjoy.

Yes, talk to the folks at the gym. They will find someone to show you how to use the equipment. Mine provides that for free the first time or two.
