  1. I just met with psych yesterday. I've seen her before and it's all great! She and I are working closely on med regime to help me get ready and be ready. She's all in for the surgery for me. Amazing, but true I'm lower BMI than qualifies, but am really fit and active, eat as well as I can...but am a sugar addict! No gloss on that baby...I've been mainlining sugar since the breast. I don't drink alcohol any longer, not using anything. This is the final addiction frontier for me. You go to the app. and tell it like it is, be true and be ready to advocate for yourself. You deserve this! Let us know how it goes. Good luck

    Feeling Sick

Ditto to jabs comments. maybe do some deep breathing and relaxation techniques prior to first nibble...and repeat as needed. I would slow everything down....way down...when I feel anxious, I'm usually rushing.
  3. I'm beginning Kaiser Options pre-op classes.

First Appointment And Stress And Guilt...oh My!

Search and search more, someone is bound to be able to do it for less than the local "rate" I went to Mex. for my band and the surgeon, staff and facilities were exceptional. Very low price, very high quality. but research all of your options. stay in touch...good luck Thanks for posting

  6. Greetings All, It's been a very long time since I was last posting here. The lap band was removed after 16 months of my health worsening overall. At first I felt great! About 6 weeks post op I was really disappointed in no weight loss. At 8 weeks I had a fill and again @ 12 weeks, I lost about 12 lbs but was so ill with acid re-flux, diarrhea, and general malaise that I couldn't enjoy life. The short version is that my PCP gave me the choice of unfilling the band or removal. I chose un-fill. Ten months later it was removed. I suffered with adhesion and scar tissue, my asthma went off the chart hard to control. The whole process was scary and I am now about to regain my health (6 mo post op band removal) I have had shingles 3 times in the last year and am dragged down from that, I believe that I was allergic to the band material. My surgeon also thinks that but no test to confirm. My current weight is still less than when I started the pre-op diet. Now I am hoping that my health plan will approve my sleeve. I paid cash for the lap band in Mexico. My surgeon was Gonzales in Tijuana. The staff there were great. No Dr. who has seen me or treated me for band complications feels that the surgeon made a mistake. Many test were run to determine the problem, basically the band slipped and then caused erosion. While this may be linked to patient non-compliance (ie over eating) that didn't appear to be the case here. I believe that I may have over drank. Which I did not feel would cause a problem as long as I sipped over a time period. I now think that this may not be true or my restriction was too much. Bla, bla, bla...very bad deal for me! I don't recommend the band. I don't know yet if I will get the sleeve. Sorry, to be a bummer, but it's the plain truth as clearly as I can state.
  7. I'm no expert on the issue, but yesterday I read that the "old version" was to staple off a small stomach. The Stomach tissue outside of the digestive system would suffer necrosis aka die. Then there could be infection etc. Some appear to have found another way to perform that "old version" now termed plication. Sorry if I spelled incorrectly or got my facts wrong. But it isn't yet approved in US. It's called plication and defined as reversible vertical sleeve. I liked the idea very well until I read about the old version and the problems with it. Sorry I don't have the answer to your question. It appears that not having the unused old stomach is a better option.
  8. Hi, I'm new here. Pre-revision post lapband removal. It appears to me that you have walked before me in this. I'm nervous about getting approval for sleeve, now that band is out..well...I'm gaining. I had the band in Mexico and all was well until I became ill on every front. My health plan is reviewing my situation. Did you go back to Mex for the revision? I have lost some and don't want to regain all while waiting. How was that for you? Thank you, LB
  9. I'm sorry to hear, but I'm so grateful for your honesty. I know that the times that I have been dehydrated...I felt like I was going to faint and welcomed the event. It is amazing how awful it felt to me. I have been given intravenous fluids to quickly remedy dehydration. I felt back to normal in 15 min. I hope that you will get into see your Dr. ASAP. Once you aren't dehydrated I'd love to hear from you. Please stay in touch. Many thanks. Take care.
  10. Yes, that is what I'm referring to Overeater's Anonymous. I don't recommend it, but I have some help from the steps. The 12 steps are addiction recovery steps.

    Advice On Scars?

I used mederma exactly as suggested on the box. The process was tedious, but the results were great!! My scars were white by month 12. I used two tubes so the cost was not a factor, even though I was put off by the price. I recommend this product if you can follow as directed. I doubt it works otherwise. And it is entirely possible that olive oil or vit e cream would have achieved the same if used 3x per day. Good luck!
  12. I am a food addict. I am waiting for my sleeve surgery( I don't know yet if it's vertical or gastric) Almost 2 years ago I had a lap band installed. It was removed in Aug. '11 due to complications of me being allergic to the band material. It did not work for me to achieve weight loss. However most of the time my band was empty (without restriction) I would so like to hear about those who are NOT loosing weight with this surgery. Thank you for your post. I'm able to have a small success with OA 12 step program, but not their food plan.
  13. Hi Vance and all, Thank you all for sharing. I'm new to this site and have enjoyed what I find. I like your comment about "head hunger" I get it and have a lot of it. I will post about my journey too. Thanks
