3 1/2 Years Later And Questions
auntielle replied to Graptor's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You also my want to think about therapy of some kind if you think it is a mental/emotional thing. I was 10-30lbs up & down before I got into the big gains & losses. My head stuff has been a large part of the problem. The band has helped tremendously but there are still times (night) when I have to fight it. I try to go back to the beginning with things like sf jello, sf frozen popscicles & ff broth. Plus, hot tea, etc. I think 20 lbs from goal is very impressive! -
I agree with what everyone has said. Personally, after dieting for years -yo-yo- I got to a place where I had whacked out my system & it took far less calories for me than what those tests say (I have taken them two or three times in my life) and what mfp & other sites recommend. I'm 51 & have dieted since I was 5. I've lost 100 lbs twice so I've learned what works for me. I like mfp b/c it keeps me accountable. And since I got my band in September I am on a new learning curve -- and I love it! Good luck!

Social Situation Help!!!
auntielle replied to losingoncemorewithsurgery's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I always try to do what was said above & I eat something -little-before I go. Like part of a protein shake or a piece of cheese. I also try not to drink much b/c it will lower my willpower & I cannot drink like I used to. And, I try to stand, sit, away from the food. At dinner, I have to remember to eat slowly & it helps that I don't want to overdo & get sick with company. Good luck & have fun! -
I don't know if I read this on here or somewhere else, however it has become my new mantra. I'm in the green zone and I'm still learning that "just one more bite" is no longer an option. I have to stop before I'm full. I can always have more later. I also believe in, "when in doubt, throw it out." Not that I want to waste food, but if I can't control it or have had enough & it won't last, out it goes. It is not going to help anyone else (starving people) & it certainly won't help me. Any other good tips out there? Thanks!

Everyone is different & I would always recommend following you drs advice. That being said, I still drink Protein drinks daily as I am not crazy about meat. I also do dairy & Beans & lentils, etc. I love the Premier @ costco & they have 30 g of Protein & 160 cal, 5 g carb, 3 g fat & 1 g sugar. I usually have a couple a day & sip on them. At first I could drink a whole one but not now. I was banded 9/7/12. I've lost 75 lbs & have not had any issues. Actually, I seem to be losing less hair than I did before upping my protein & taking all Vitamins daily. It's a learning process but so worth it! Good luck!

Ineligible For New Health Insurance After Weight Loss Surgery?
auntielle replied to txdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I live in Texas & have been in the high risk pool for a few years b/c I'm self-employed & have had major depression for years. No one would take me b/c I was taking too many meds for that. I'm now only taking two so I called an agent the other day. I told her I had lap band surgery last Sept. She checked & said I was declined by both companies b/c I had wls even though I was self-pay. However, she said one of them said they would take me after a year. I'm hoping to be at or near goal by then so hopefully I can change. So far I'm down about 75lbs., no problems, feel great! I would have the surgery all over again, regardless. Good luck! -
A Realistic Lap Band Success Story, And Some Suggestions!
auntielle replied to NYC Girl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
One thing that I have found is that I am very easily influenced by triggers like all of the food commercials. I have started closing my eyes or turning away when they appear. Also, when I spend too much time in my head I can get off track. I agree with everything everyone said. We have to identify our triggers, avoid them, distract ourselves and/or substitute positive behaviors. -
9 Days Post Op And Suddenly Covered In Hives- Soy?
auntielle replied to MadcapMama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a reaction to eggs a few months after my surgery. I was eating them a lot and noticed a rash on my upper thigh. Stopped eating eggs & it went away. I had also been told I was allergic to them years ago but it was never a problem. I have not talked to a dr but think you may be right that since we're eating less it affects us more. Also, I've heard that sometimes when you over do anything it can become a problem. I try to have a variety of foods now. Good luck! -
If You Could Really Turn Back Time, Would You Get Banded Again??
auntielle replied to txdee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would do it again. I am 7 months out & down about 73 lbs. - 50 +- to go. Had single incision, no scars, went right home. No problems, hair loss, etc. I do recommend following Drs instructions, accepting new behaviors & getting therapy if you need it. I was self-pay and have not had one regret. However, you must be ready, willing & able to follow the rules almost all of the time. All the best to you! -
I went to St. David's North Austin Med Center & had a very good experience. My doc is Dr Ganta in Austin. I was self pay so I don't know financial details. However, I just wanted you to know I was impressed with everyone. Best of luck!

In Need Of Some Help!
auntielle replied to dominicana703's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in TX but I had the single incision in September & could not be happier. You can look at my stomach & not notice a thing. I also got a low profile port so, hopefully, it won't ever be too noticeable. I went home the same day & had little down time. Not much pain either. I was not going to pay the extra (I was self-pay) but my sisters both said to so I did and am so glad. It was worth it to me. I also did a lot of research on my doctor & felt confident in his abilities. Dr. Sashi Ganta in Austin. So far, I've lost 60 lbs by following the instructions - most of the time. All the best to you! -
I have thick hair & have noticed I am losing less hair than before. My dr said 70-80 g of Protein but I had a trainer who said 100. I have been very good taking my Vitamins and for the most part eating healthy. I was banded 9/7/11 & have lost 58lbs. Good luck!

Starting The Process Very Soon....nervous
auntielle replied to dubsteppsycho's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am thrilled with my band and hope you have as wonderful a time as I am having. I had surgery 9/7/11 and have lost 57 lbs. so far. I was nervous about surgery, too. However, it was a breeze and I went home after about 4 hours. I have a great doctor. I had a single incision and had an easy recovery. Not totally pain-free but not horrible either. I even lost some during the holidays. I would recommend looking into therapy of some kind. That has been very important and helpful to me. I've had weight issues all my life and have lost 100+ lbs. twice. Once I kept if off for 5 years. I'm taking each day one at a time and am learning not to put all my feelings into food. All the best with your journey! -
Welcome to Austin, I had my surgery & get my fills from Dr Sashi Ganta. His number is 512-257-2425. My fills are included for the first year so I don't know the cost. I like him & everyone in the office. Good luck!
