    UHC Choice plus-won't cover?

Yea, that was fast. Im doing great almost no pain at all. I have my 2 week postop today and plan on asking dr to go ahead and release me to return to work. Im getting bored just sitting at home all day. I was lucky, I didnt have any of the gas pains or anything that others complain about. I credit that to the fact that my dr did keep me in the hospital overnight and they made sure that I was up every couple of hours to walk. According to my scale at home I have lost about 20lbs since the beginnning of preop. Im going to add my weight ticker after I come back from the dr with an official weight. Good luck:clap2:

    Would you do it again?

zengirl227: I understand and do agree with your reasons and Im sure that I'll get to a point where the slow lose is frustrating. But I read somewhere that 1 in 200 people will die from having gastric bypass. Im just not that luckly to play with those odds.

    Would you do it again?

I would undoubtly do it again.Im only 2 weeks out now and have lost about 20lbs from the start of my preop. Those 20lbs alone have been worth it. Now Im looking forward to getting back to eating real food not because Im hungry, but Im ready to start learning how the rest of my life is going to be. I am worried about the what ifs like what if my weight lose starts to slow down and I only lose a couple of pounds a month, will I still feel as if it was worth it, and the answer is yes. I will take a couple of pounds lost instead of gained any day. zengirl227 Why do you wish you had done gastric instead of lapband?

    lump, scared!!!!!

I had the thrush thing going on too. I thought there was a piece of hair or something on my tongue, looked in the mirror and was disgusted. Called the Dr. who called in a prescription for a swish and swallow medicine that cleared up the problem within a couple of days but still have to take medicine for 14.
  5. Yes, I have noticed the same thing, especially when I stand up. Im glad to hear that Im not the only one. When I first noticed it I called the nurse just to make sure and was told that some people can feel it more than others. But it is ok.

Not sure what that info is at the end was trying to fix a misspelling:confused:

    UHC Choice plus-won't cover?

    slynbrown: I also have UHC Choice Plus. Sounds like I have close to the same policy as yours. Didnt have to have anything besides my bmi of 40+ I was so lucky that they didnt require anything else because I hardly ever went to the Dr before. So there would have been no why I could have come up with the 5 year history. The insurance office for the Dr I used made sure of all of the requirements before sending in my info. vbmenu_register("postmenu_489414", true); vbmenu_register("postmenu_489414", true);

    May 2007 Banders

Im still on full liquids until 6/20 and than I get to do pureed foods for 2 weeks. Start soft foods on 7/4 for 1 week and than regular food on 7/11. Im already planning on what I will get to eat on the 4th of July. I was thinking last night that once Im able to have a solid food, Im going to be scared to death to swallow it. Last night my kids had Stake and Shake and I just had to take a small piece of meat and chew it to get out the flavor. Though Im kinda scared to swallow it, I cant wait to get to chew something.

Should I be able to feel Port outside skin?

When I first felt my port it was during a coughing attack. I was trying to hold my incisions in place and there it was. It scared me because at the time I didnt know what it was. I thought that the port would be under one of the seri stripes. Closer to an incision, not almost under my boob. I felt really embarressed when I called the nurse to tell her of the hard lump in my stomach:embarassed:

    May 2007 Banders

MaryumC: I also have a Vg band but Im only 5 days out. I have started to get a little hungry, but since I'll be on full liquids for 3 weeks I havent been able to judge how much I eat as far as if Im still hungry or not after 1 cup. My Dr told me that he gave me the bigger band because I did have a large fat pad around my stomach and that he didnt want me to be too tight from the beginning. I thought this was a good ideal and it gives me away to go to get the restriction. I was worried that I could have my band completly filled and not have good restriction. So this way I think I may have a lot more chances at it. <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) --><SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_485922", true); </SCRIPT>

    Length of hospital stay

I stayed overnight but slightly less than 24 hrs. Im so glad that my Dr. did require the stay. I just felt like they did everthing to make sure I was ok before releasing me. Every couple of hours someone was in my room checking my vitals, making me walk and sitting up these little 1 oz cups of water to make sure that I was drinking. I brought the cups home and they really help to remind me to drink. The goal is to drink 6 cups every hour that you are awoke. Im still having trouble getting in all 64 oz though.

    May 2007 Banders

Hello my fellow May bandsters. Im doing much better than I would have imagined. Im a little sore but besides that everything is ok. So far I havent had any shoulder pain or other problems with gas and no nausea. Does anyone know if this is something I can expect later or would I have had it by now if I was going to get it. Well sitting here at the computer is a little uncomfortable so I will talk later.

    May 2007 Banders

Tommorrow will finally be my turn. Its surprising but as of right now Im not nervous or scared. Im not scheduled to be there until 2 pm so I have all morning to wait. This is going to be the hardest, since I cant even have my morning coffee much less a sip of water. I hope they call me and tell me to come in early. I only live about 20 mins away. My Dr. requires a 24 hr stay so I will post my update probably late on Thursday. The 24 hrs dont start until I get to my room. See you all in bandland:clap2:

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?

Yes I had a 2 week full liquid diet so I was allowed to eat cream soups , yogrut, sf jello and sf pudding along with my protein shakes and of course all the water I would like. Today is my day before surgery and all I can have is clear liquids. I made it this far without any cheats but I think today will be hard with just the clear liquids. The protein and soup really kept me full.

    Big Medicine

I thought it was pretty good, but Im also wondering if they are going to include lapband and not just gastric. When reading the info on the website I got the impression that it was going to be only gastric. Even if that is the case I will continue to watch it because these type of shows are my favorite. Most of the time all I watch is TLC and Discovery Health. At this point I have probably seen ever episode of everyshow at least 2x.

    Full Liquid stage

I was wondering the same thing. I think it would be ok on this stage because everything you are taking in is considered a liquid. I dont think it comes into play until after your done with the liquid stage. Is this correct? :help:

    Liquid Diet Support Thread

I noticed that this thread had droped down so I decided to post again with it being the holdiay weekend and all of us still on the preop or postop liquid diet need all of the support we can get. I have a large loving family and its so neat because my mom and her sister live next door to each other so there is a large cookout planned for today. They have been preparing days in advance. My senses are so keen right now I could smell every spice that was put into the rub for the ribs. How will I ever make it thru this day. I think Im going to treat myself to a low fat malt from United Dairy Farmers. I know its more calories than I should have but its still liquid, right? I wonder if I take a scoop of my protein in will the store mix that in for me? I asked my mom if she thought she could take any of the drippings from the meat and make me a broth. Im so desparte. The one thing I know though is that Im not going to cheat. This close to surgury there is no way im going to eat meat or anything solid. Plus I just keep telling myself that I may have to miss this cookout but by the 4th I will be on soft foods so im sure there will be something I can eat.

    May 2007 Banders

Good Morning everyone. Hope everyone is doing well and feeling better today, and well wishes to everyone scheduled today. Thanks for the info on what the pain scale has in store. Since I have had 2 c-sections prior I was hoping that this pain would be nothing in comparison. But than again as stated that was 15 years ago.

    May 2007 Banders

I know that the pain will be different for everyone, but can someone give me an ideal on a scale of 1-10 you know probably how the hospital had you rate pain, how bad is the pain. I dont know what to expect. The last time I was in the hospital was almost 15 years ago when I had my daughter by c-section. Im starting to get a little nervous. All of my family supports my decision, but I dont want them to have to see me in pain because I know the negative comments that I shouldnt have done this will start. I especially dont want my kids to see me in pain like this. Though they are teenagers I think it will still scare them. Especially my son because though he really hasnt said much about it I know he is nervous that something may happen to me.

    Liquid Diet Support Thread

Evilah; Dont get discouraged, just get right back on track. Dont let yourself fall into the trap of since I already messed up I might as well wait and start again tommorrow. I know I do this alot and it seems as if each day I give myself one more day to get started again. Yesterday was a hard day for a lot of us. It was so hard to watch everbody else eat Sunday dinner and there I sit sipping on my soup. Luckly my boyfriend did the cooking or I would not have made it. I cant imagine cooking food that I cant eat. And just keep in mind that this is for just a short period of time we will be back to regular food in no time. :biggrin1:

    Staples

I havent been banded yet but did have staples with my 2 c-sections. Once they were in I wanted them to stay there because the thought of them coming out was scarier than them being there. The good news is they dont hurt at all coming out. Its been a long time ago since I had them but I remember laying there holding by breath waiting for the nurse to take them out and she had actually already taken some out without me even noticing. Why did you have staples? I thought they would just use that strong tape. Suritape I thank its called. Did you have to be opened?

    Liquid diet beware!!!!

Oh my goodness, so far I havent cheated and really have no desire, after reading this I know for sure Im not going to cheat. Im on day 5 and have been doing really well so far. I made myself drink a protein drink this morning because I really wasnt hungry but I know the key to getting thru this is to not let myself get to the point where Im hungry and lose control. Do you know if they plan on trying to do her surgery later?

    Liquid Diet Support Thread

Ok so sounds like the clam chowder is out. But let me make sure I understand this? I can have egg drop soup? Does it have to be strained. I hope its ok because I got some last night. You know friday night is always the night you eat out and since it would be unfair to my kids to tell them that they cant eat out because Im on this diet and afraid that I couldnt curb the urge to eat their french fries on the way home, I decided that they could have their Mcdonalds and I would get egg drop soup. If it is ok do I still need to drain it or can I have the egg? I have only tried this soup once before, but it is definitly something I could treat myself to if it is something I can have.

    Liquid Diet Support Thread

Im on day 3 of my 2 week preop liquid diet. I decided also to do a test run before the real thing a day early and actually made it the whole day. So far all I have had is a cup of coffee in the morning, yogurt, protein shakes, broth, sf jello, sf pudding and of course cream soup which is to be blended and strained. I dont know why it has to blended and strained but Im doing it. I also have to do liquids for 20 days after surgery so Im going to be on this for a while. So far its not bad but I know in the end Im going to have to get more creative. Does anyone know if clam chowder would be included in the cream soup category, especially if it has to be blended?

    Insurance question...please help!

Actually what I paid was just the maxium out of pocket. Not deductible. The 90 10 is the coinsurance and this portion of what you are expected to pay should have a maxium. If not you could end up paying a lot in that 10%.
