    Swallowing Pills After Surgery?

I wouldn't take a whole large pill while you are first post-op, and still on liquids or mushies. Once I was eating solid food again, I transitioned back to pill tylenol, and I've had no issues. I'm due to have my first fill this week though, and so I'll let you know what happens after that.

    Drinks And Meals

The sensation of solid food moving past the upper stomach (where the pouch is) that triggers the brain to think you have eaten. Apparently that subtle feeling happens rather quickly with each bite, and so as long as the food is past there on its own, drinking isn't an issue, which is why 45 seconds between the two is enough.

    Drinks And Meals

Nothing stays in the pouch, unless you are stuck, and you don't wash food from the stomach, because of the sphincter at the bottom.

    Drinks And Meals

My surgeon only recommends that I take 45 seconds between drinking and eating. Their philosophy is that the band doesn't hold food up in the upper pouch, but increases the sensation against the upper stomach from solid food, which tells our brain that we have eaten. When you eat liquidy solids (from eating and drinking in the same bite) the sensation isn't triggered, and satiety isn't reached as quickly.

How old is your daughter? Why can't she take responsibility for her own health and wellness?

    Lapband Removal

Nicole, I am just starting my journey (that sounds cheesy when I write it, doesn't it?), but I feel for you. I believe there are a few posters around who had to revise to something else, after having an erosion. Maybe taking a look around the complications forum found here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forum/70-lap-band-complications/ Good luck!

Oh Queenie, that sucks! Hopefully they can just reposition the port, and you can stop having bad things happen!

Less Restriction Since The Last Fill?

Bands don't stretch, they either spring leaks, or slip.
  9. Does gas-x help? How about drinking a really hot liquid?

Well, I'm glad that I'm not on my own with that.

    280+ Lb Bulimic.

Wow. What a gem. Sometimes you get what you give, ya know?

I Hate To Ask This But...

I have IBS, and I battle with constipation. I supplement once or twice a day with this stuff. It doesn't cause gas, and it's basically benefibre, but cheaper. http://www.helpforibs.com/shop/suplmts/acacia.asp
  13. Cranberry can help prevent a uti, but it WON'T CURE one, so please keep that in mind. It also has to be pure cranberry juice, not cocktail, so no added sugar.

    April Bandsters!

I wish I was losing weight like some of you! I'm hovering at around 5 pounds lost since surgery, and I need a fill! I can eat pretty much what ever I want, but slightly less than before the band, which is probably why I haven't gained. I have a fill scheduled for about 10 days for now, and I can't wait!

    How Long Do Fills Last?

The fill doesn't go away, I think the stomach just adapts, and as you lose weight, the fat pad around the stomach shrinks, and the band isn't as tight.

    April Bandsters!

I'm onto soft foods today, and I'm doing well. I can eat and drink as much as I need to, and I can clearly see my need for a fill, as my hunger comes back after just a few hours.

    Too Fat For The Band?

I had a BMI of just over 50 at surgery. I think it isn't an automatic 'yes' to people with a BMI over 50, but it isn't an automatic 'no' either.

    Itchy

An ice pack works sometimes. All you need to do, is change the sensation. My husband has a 4 inch incision on his shoulder, and when he was healing, the ice pack thing helped the itchiness a lot. Good luck!

    Lap-Band Revision June 2012

I would ask the surgeon what he/she would like you to do. For emptying of the stomach though, you usually just don't eat or drink anything after midnight the day before.

    5'4 Whats Your Goal Weight?

I'm 5'4, and my personal goal is 170. My GP would be very happy with that, and truthfully, I'd be happy with anything under 200.

    April Bandsters!

For constipation, I'd try milk of magnesia. I'd start out with a small dose though, and work your way up, if it doesn't work after 12 hours or so. You don't want an explosion, or to have to run to the bathroom. Good luck.

    Motivation?

I'm a week and a half post-op, and my motivation is waining. I bought a recumbent exercise bike tonight at an auction, and I pick it up tomorrow. I am slightly excited about exercising in the privacy of my own home. It's the eating that I am really struggling with. I keep seeing people who have lost double digit weights since surgery, and I am down 2 pounds. I see my surgeon tomorrow, and I'm worried that he is going to say negative things to me. What can I do? Any advice? Thanks in advance.
