"sensa" Sprinkles Along With Lap Band

I read about Sensa online and didn't like the reviews. Most said it didn't work at all. Seems like another gimmick, just like many of the "TV diets". I also read that they have some pretty deceptive billing practices and that once you get on their billing cycle, they keep billing you even if you don't want their product anymore.

    Anyone Not Feeling Negative?

I try to not think about the "negative" posts as being negative, but as people reaching out so they don't struggle in silence. I also like to think of them as a learning experience for me, so that if I ever go down that road, I will remember that it is normal for all of us to have ups and downs. Aside from that, I am overall very happy with my band. Surgery on January 10 and just had my first fill today. I feel pretty darn good. I am craving healthy foods for once in my life (go fish!) and shopped in the misses section for the first time in 6 years just last week. Have had my negatives, even posted once or twice on here, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Keep your chin up and check out the January 2012 bandsters group. The comments are mostly positive and we are all in the same stage of our journey.

First Fill For January 2012 Bandsters

Got my band fill today. Didn't hurt with the needle or anything, but doctor almost made me puke with drinking all the barium! I got 5 cc put in today! I was surprised that he put in that much right off the bat, but we'll see how it goes. I am ready to get my weight loss jump started again. I have been stuck at the ~30 lb mark for a week or so. Lousy thing is that I just got on a regular diet on Tuesday and now I am on a liquid diet for 2 days!

First Fill For January 2012 Bandsters

I get my first fill this Friday, Feb 10, 4.5 weeks post-op. My doctor doesn't fill at all on the day of surgery. (The weight loss group is very conservative overall) I feel like I am eating too much now that I am on regular food, so hopefully this will get my weight loss jump started again! I have been hovering around the 30 lbs mark for a week! Not what I want to see. Amica813, did your surgeon/weight loss clinic give you a card that asks the restaurant to let you order off the kids menu? It is just a business card that says this patient has a reduced stomach capacity and please honor them with a child's portion.

    Good Protein Tricks Anyone?

I use protein shakes. Premier Nutrition brand at Costco have 30 g in one shake. I drink that for breakfast and eat a lot of fish (mostly sole) for dinner. If I don't have fish, I eat greek yogurt to make up for it (14 g in a 6 oz cup). This way,I get my 65g of protein in most days.

So Anyone Ever Tried Weight Watchers?

My mom is on WW and when I compare her diet to the one my nutritionist has laid out, they are not the same at all. WW tends to have a lot of carbs and sugar, which is a big no-no on the nutritionist plan. Also, my nutritionist told me that raw veggies and such can be tough to handle early on in the band process and should come second to protein always. I think that you should check with your docs to see what they say about it. They may be able to give you a modified version or tell you what is good and bad to follow.

    First Year Weight Goals

I started at 275. Hit 257 on surgery day At 244 now, just shy of 4 weeks post-op. I hope to hit 200 within 6 months and 175 by 1 year post-op.

    Fill Dates

I get to go on February 10, exactly one month post-op. I am down about 14 lbs since surgery, over 30 since this time last year.

Are You Sure You Don't Want Anything To Drink?

I hear ya on this one! I usually get a glass of water when we get seated. I drink like crazy before the food comes, then have the server take it back when they bring the food. I count down the seconds until I can drink again, too! This is probably the weirdest habit change for me, since I would drink most of my fluids with meals before. I hope you hit your 25 lbs!

    Finding It Hard To Behave

I think that it is normal. This is hard stuff! For me, just the act of communicating my frustration on here helped. Also, now that I am eating more "normal" food, I am able to cope much better. scale is still dropping slowly, but it does seem that the only impact the band has right now is restricting the size of my bites I can swallow. I get my first fill this Friday. I hope that it will make the scale drop faster than it has been. My weight loss clinic told me repeatedly that the first month isn't about weight loss. It's about healing. Let's just try to keep our spirits up, our cheating down and our scales dropping!

New To This Website And Lapband

Definitely wait on the reduction. I have lost about half my weight in my chest! I have gone down one band size and 2 cup sizes in about a month! Save that reduction money for a lift when they are shrunk!

My Big Day Finally On Saturday

Good luck! Finding a yummy non-sweet liquid before surgery is awesome! That is what made my 2 weeks of liquids only killer. Now (3.5 weeks post op) I am on purees and now that I have more non-sweet things I can have, my disposition is much better.

    Liquid Phase Isn't So Bad

Me too! Day 7 post-op and have had very little physical hunger. Have had some frustration with mental hunger with a few stressful things occurring for work, but the liquid phase is much easier for me than I thought it would be. I have gotten all my fluid and protein requirements in every single day, too! The totally awesome thing is I am already seeing the results: 8 lbs since surgery with no real hunger, nausea, pain, etc. Have had some gas build-up the last day or two, but I read to "walk it out" and it seems to be helping. Anyone else have this problem?
  18. With the highs and lows as described, is it possible that it is manic depression (a.k.a. bipolar disorder)? If this is the problem, I believe that it is most often treated with both mood stabilizers and anti-depressants. Perhaps that is a path you could explore with your PCP and your psych if the hormonal depression isn't the answer. I have suffered from severe depression for 5 years now. Recently had med changes that sent me for a spin into symptom hell for 3 months. I have been reading a lot into symptoms, treatment etc. and it seems that Bipolar really needs both types of meds to be successfully treated.

    One Week Post-Op

Wow! I had my surgery 6 days ago and the doc won't fill my band for at least 3 more weeks. I am surprised your docs filled yours right away! Just being icky feeling post surgery and having liquids only, I have lost 8 lbs since the surgery, plus the 8 lbs they put on me in the hospital with IVs! My incisions are a little lumpy, but they aren't ***** or irritated. I don't think that lumpy is a concern, but tender and red/warm to the touch are indications of infections. Here's to us ladies just starting this journey!!
