In reflection I have been obese since college, but I was a peron that never weighed myself or had ever viewed myself as fat. This is largely due to perceptions of weight in the Black community as well as my upbringing. It is often times acceptable to be over weight in the Black community. It is attractive and womanly to have curves, however my curves changed without me noticing to fat and rolls. I have a healthy self esteem as well (thanks mom), so I never viewed my self as unattractive or displeasing to the eye. I still don't at 236, but my entire thinking process changed when my mother died of heart failure Jan. 2011. Her death was caused by her severe obesity. This was a wake up call to me. I do not have any illness, but this can not go on like this at my weight. I want my life to be a long, healthy and happy life. So, I have conceded that my fat is no longer acceptable and I seek Lapband Surgery to be a better me, more diva like , a more fabulous me.
