What Are You Goals With The Lap Band?
JennK2008 replied to Sunshyne068's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
to lose another 20lbs by summer by losing those 20lbs get back into my size 8 pants -
Definately can only have the thin crispy crust. I have tried the regular crust and it always gets stuck. I also stick with pepperoni and veggies as the sausage and hamburger not matter how much I chew always seems to get stuck. I wish I could tolerate english muffins, half of one would be the perfect size for me. If anyone has tried those sandwich thins let me know how that works. I can eat a sandwich now by replacing the bread with a toasted sandwich thin.

What Do You Do When Food Is Stuck Or Doesn't Agree With You?
JennK2008 replied to Cpf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually start to slime when I get stuck. Then I have to get to the nearest bathroom and it comes back up. I find that sometimes I can eat this today but have a problem with it next time. Trial and error. If I get the same thing stuck twice I'm done with it. -
Get back to your doctor and see what he/she says. When I was ready to get back on track my doctor wouldn't let me have a fill, he made me get back on track and come back in 4 weeks. I go back this Thurs. I am ready for my appointment. I got out my food journal and write down everything I put in my mouth, including the 1 M&M I had. I also keep track of my exercise daily. I have only lost 3lbs in the last 3 weeks but I have lost inches as my clothes are alot looser than they were. I am hoping to get that fill on Thursday as I feel I need more restriction. If you want we can be accountable together as we are both getting back on track!!

I think it does depend on the surgeon. Mine was done as outpatient in a hospital surgical center.I was there only a few hours. When I woke up in recovery I immediately needed to use the restroom and had a nurse help me so that I could go. I wasn't groggy and was stable on my feet and they released me. Of course I couldn't drive for 24 hours but my husband drove home and then we went to the pharmacy to get my pain meds. From the time we left for the hospital and the time we got home we were only gone 6 hours and the hospital where I had my surgery was 45 min away. I had great support at home and my husband was there to help me get around if I needed it. I was fine however, if my surgeon would have required an overnight stay I wouldn't have minded.

Thats great that you have lost 44lbs!!! You go girl!!! You do your best the next week and go in there and let your doctor praise you for your weight loss! You have done a great job even though you haven't reached your personal goal yet. Don't let that get you down. Weight is nothing but a number be proud of the new size you are in and the healthier you are 44lbs lighter!! I have been stuck on a plateau myself and started doing 30 min a day on the elliptical 5 days a week. I started doing 5 min at a time for 30 min now I'm up to 30 min without stopping. I plan on adding an extra 5 min a day each week until I'm back up to 45 min. I'm only down 3lbs over the last 3 weeks but I can tell I've lost inches and my clothes are getting looser.

remember this is not a diet it's a lifestyle change. There are gonna be times when you eat a little more than normal or eat something that is bad for you. We all do it/ have done it. Like the others said today is a new day. Well actually it's superbowl Sunday so tomorrow is a new day for me especially since we are having a houseful of people and all kinds of temptations. I don't struggle so much with eating too much but on a day like today more like just eating the wrong stuff. One thing I suggest is when you do "cheat" make sure that you add that to you food journal (anything that goes into your mouth) that will help you be more accountable!!

I cannot tolerate bread at all but I did try Orowheat whole wheat sandwich thins the other day and was able to eat it without getting stuck. They have 100 cal, and 5g protien. I toast them so now I eat a sandwich for lunch from time to time. Great too if you ever miss the occasional hamburger. I also like to put a hamburger or sandwich meat inside a lettuce leaf in place of the bread. I like the greek yogurt because it has more protien and less sugar than regular yogurt. I eat the flavored kinds like honey, blueberry and clementine flavors.

Scars And Incisions
JennK2008 replied to Quinnmc79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had 2 incisions. 1 tiny one under my boob and then a small one where they put in my port. I didn't use anything on them to keep from scarring. My surgeon used some type of super glue instead of stitches and after 2.5 years they are barely noticable unless you are looking for them. My doctor said my scars wouldn't be noticable when I had on my bikini. That's not gonna happen but I have a one piece now that is actually cute and doesn't look like it was made by Omar the tent maker. -
Protein Powder Issues
JennK2008 replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a $20 mini blender at walmart with 5 individual cups so there's one for Mon-Fri. I usually use bottled water either from the fridge or at room temperature and never had any problems with it not mixing well. After I blend it for a few seconds I like to add a few ice cubes and blend it again for more of a milk shake consistancy. I haven't had any luck with any kind of protien powders when I try to add them to something warm or just warm them up. They always look curdy and gross so I have never tried to eat/drink it. -
I always weigh first thing after I pee in the morning. My scale and my doctors scale is exactly 2lbs different. I would stick to the same scales and weigh only before you have eaten or drank anything. There are days where I have gotten on the scale thinking how in the world did I gain 4lbs today? Then I remember that I ate dinner and then worked out and drank a couple bottles of water. The next morning I'm back to normal and hopefully a little lighter. Good luck on your journey!!

How Did You Reward Yourself?
JennK2008 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Achieving your weight loss goal should be a reward in itself however I rewarded myself with a day at the spa. I had a pedicure, and a message. Nothing like pampering yourself for accomplishing each goal. Keep up the good work!!! -
Don't beat yourself up over 5lbs. You are able to eat solid food now without throwing up so it was bound to happen. Just talk with your doctor and log everything you put in your mouth. I'm struggling with 20 lbs I have to try and lose again. I was frustrated too. My dr wouldn't fill my bad last time since I had gained the weight. I started a log and now I am down 5lbs in 3 weeks. I wish it was more but I'm not going to complain cause I'm back on track again. I go back to the dr next Thursday and hoping he will give me a slight fill but if not I will have definately proved to him and myself when you are accountable for everything you eat the extra weight starts coming off again.

I had a complete unfill 10 months ago because I wasn't able to keep anything down either. I put on quite a bit of weight but they thingk due to me be dehydrated most of it was water weight. I did put on some extra pounds but my doctor wasn't too concerned however I'm still struggling to find my "sweet spot". Trying to get back on track but the weight hasn't came off but I'm still losing inches.

They say that muscle weighs more than fat. As you start to build muscle you will gain a little or not lose anything until your body gets used the exercise then the musle will help you burn fat. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water so that you don't get dehydrated or start to retain water. You are not busting your butt for nothing, you will love the results just be patient. Keep up the hard work!!!

Help, I'm Gaining Weight!!!
JennK2008 replied to JennK2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I called and talked to the nurse in my surgeons office today. ( She is absolutely wonderful I must say!) After we went over everything I had been doing in the last week I am calling my pcp tomorrow and making an appointment to have some bloodwork done and go from there If it ends up not being a thyroid issue then she will get me an appointment with a bariatric metabolic doctor to see if he can help me some how. I am going back in 2 1/2 weeks for a follow up with my surgeon. I am also going to get back on track exercising beginning tomorrow night. I had planned on it tonight and ended up having to work late unexpectedly. Right before the holidays I would work out 45 min to an hour every evening 4 nights a week. Once again I thank you all for expressing your thoughts with me! -
I was banded Sept 2009. I was doing a great job and lost 114 lbs( only 12 lbs from my goal), then I got severly dehydrated and had to have my band completely unfilled. I gained 28 pounds in 2 days and my feet and legs swelled up bad!! I went to urgent care and they couldn't find anything wrong with me and recommended that I go to the ER so that I could have more tests done than what he could provide in the office. After every test imaginable I was given a clean bill of health with the only diagnosis being that I was retaining fluid since I was so severly dehydrated. I went back to my surgeon 4 weeks after being unfilled and was given 2ccs. I went back 4 weeks later and got another 1.5ccs another month and .5 ccs. I was well on my way to losing the weight again with a total of 4 ccs in my band. That was last August and I have struggled with 5-7 lbs back and forth. With the holidays and being at Disneyworld for Christmas I put on approximately another 3 lbs. I went to see my surgeon on Jan 13 and he said I was already too tight and suggested that I have some removed. I needed a fill!!! I was upset since I was hoping a fill could help me start losing weight again. With that being said I thought I'm getting this weight off come hell or high water, I have been extremely careful and logging EVERYTHING I put in my mouth and I'm gaining weight!!! I am doing the protein shakes for breakfast, and being extra careful what I'm eating for lunch and dinner. I have had absolutely no slider foods until yesterday when I had 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt and yes I measured it. I got on the scale this mornig for the first time since Monday and I was up another 7 pounds!! Help, I'm gaining weight, feeling discouraged, and am open to any suggestions any of you might have.

How Many People Have You Told?
JennK2008 replied to sweetsoutherngirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in September 2009 and I only told my family and very close friends. The only reason I didn't tell anyone else was it was none of their business and I was afraid that I would fail like I had at every diet I had tried before. Not to mention that people who have never ahd a weight problem can be so judgemental and think that WLS is the easy way out. When people started noticing my weight loss and asked me how I was doing it I would tell them that I cut out all the bad stuff that I was over indulging in before (bread, sweets, soda and fast food etc). I wasn't lying I just didn't tell the entire story. After losing 114 pounds (even though I have gained some back), I have proven to myself that I am not a failure and I am no longer ashamed of failure and am proud to tell people about my band! In fact I was asked to give my testimony at the WLS seminar where I had my surgery done. I was so glad to share my story with others who were considering having surgery. Good luck to you on your journey and do what makes you comfortable!! -
Feel Like Such A Lap Band Failure!
JennK2008 replied to robinbare's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in September 2009 and was doing great until I got sick and had to have my band completely unfilled. I had 2 fills and was back on track then it seems like the last few months I have been gaining. I will admit that this Christmas I ate more crap than normal as we were vacationing at Disney. I too was ashamed to go back to the doctor after having gained 20 pounds in the last 5 months. I saw the number going up on the scale but my clothes never got tighter or too small. I went to the doctor last week and was denied a fill. He said that my band was already tight. I am still trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I will admit that I am extremely tight in the morning but not tight at all in the afternoon. Last Monday I started with the protein shakes again and eating high protein low carb foods. I'm gonna get this extra weight off no matter what it takes. I go back in 3 weeks and I'm gonna try my best to lose at least 5 pounds before I go back.(I'm not gonna get on the scale but once every two weeks) I will tell you however I am going to make an afternoon appointment when I am no where as tight as I am in the mornings. -
