Second fill and i swear i can something different...?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to koolkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your stomach is likely a bit swollen from the fill, which is normal, and would cause that tightness you're feeling. I always stay on liquids for 24 hours after a fill then very cautiously work real food back in. You'll find every fill is truly a learning experience, especially as you increase the amount in your band. Best wishes. -
Left overs not going down

I don't even attempt leftover meat anymore. It's just too dry after being stored in the fridge and reheated. Dry meat (or fish) is about the only thing I'm guaranteed to get stuck on and leftover meat is always way too dry for me. -
Hiccup/Burping thing...
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to TaraKaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids and I call it "hiccurps". It's like a cross between a burp and a hiccup. If I am eating and my band decides I'm done before my cup of food is gone, I get the hiccurps. That's my sign to stop eating or I'm going to regret it. -
Surgery in 2009
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to eileen190's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had my band for 4-5 years, but I can tell you what my surgeon told me. Once you reach your goal weight and are maintaining, you should go see your surgeon to have your band checked yearly. Think of it as just one more step in the recommended yearly physical we're all supposed to get anyway. As long as you take care of your band and have no complications, there is no reason it ever has to be removed. -
Incision trouble
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to clovergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could just have a stitch not dissolved just below the skin. Or it could just be the way that one is healing. If it's not red, warm to the touch, foul smelling, or getting more sore I wouldn't worry about it. -
Confused!! ugh...

Are you sure you didn't possibly misunderstand? I ask because you got a ton of bad info. The whole purpose of the Lap Band is to control hunger so I have no idea why that doctor would say that. In fact, the beauty of the band is the fact when you have adequate fluid in your band not only are you satisfied on much less food but you can go much longer periods of time without hunger. It is not at all unreasonable to expect to be satisfied for at least 3 hours. In fact, you should be satisfied longer than 3 hours. Most experts agree you should be able to go at least 4 hours without hunger. A lot of us (myself included) can go even longer than that. As far as the regurgitating, is it possible you need to take smaller bites and chew more thoroughly? Many find once they have enough fluid in their band they need to take bites the size of a fingernail. I'm so sorry the doctor you spoke to was so awful. Best wishes. -
Protein shakes

That is very odd! I'm stumped! I'd discuss it with your nutritionist, they'd have a lot more insight I'm sure. -
Protein shakes

Is it possible you're lactose intolerant? Or perhaps allergic to something in the shake? Do you have this problem with any other foods or drink? -
Gurgling with liquid 2nd fill
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Roni77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Gurgling is normal but discomfort is not. I would give your doctor a call and talk to him. You may be a little tiny bit too tight but it's always best to let the surgeon make that decision. -
Agreed, if you aren't measuring your portions there is no way you can accurately count calories (unless you're living on pre-packaged single serving meals which wouldn't be very healthy). I'd be willing to bet they're "guessing" calories and their guess is too low, hence no weight loss.

Full liquid question

It really depends on your doctor's instructions. They all seem to have different ones. I'd give his office a call if you're unsure. -
Thank goodness for mothers. Tomorrow is the wake for my grandma and everything I own is at least 2 sizes too big. Being as I'm having the TT next week, buying new clothes right now would be pointless. So, my mom was able to take in a blouse for me, about 2 inches on each side. It's still big but a lot better and will at least get me through the wake and funeral.

Gallbladder

I'll keep you in my prayers. You'll feel SO much better! -
I know multiple people who have Lupus and the band but you definitely will want to speak to your Rheumatologist before deciding to get the band. Lupus is one of the few diseases listed as a contradiction to having the Lap Band. So, it definitely would need to be discussed with your doctor first. Best wishes

What happened?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Erica313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just sounds like you irritated your stomach and now it needs time to rest. If I were you, I'd go on liquids for 24 hours to let it calm then slowly work back to regular food. If that doesn't help, you need to call your doctor. -
No. It's not mandatory that it's covered and many don't. It's considered an elective surgery.
-
Yes, in fact I've had a .1cc unfill before.

Define "Can't Eat"
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to smmiley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are taking small enough bites and still PBing whenever you try to eat, you're not in the yellow zone. You're too tight and in the red zone. -
Gallbladder
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no, I'm so sorry. I will tell you this, a gallbladder can really mess you up when it goes. I had high liver enzymes, low kidney function, low potassium, and my blood pressure was only 90/50 all because my gallbladder was so bad. Let them take it and deal with the Lap Band after. You could end up really sick if you don't. -
Are you always conscious of your band?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Bandashoop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think about it at all unless I'm eating. Because eating small bites and chewing til mush has become second nature to me, sometimes I don't even think about it when eating. -
Gallbladder
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gallbladder out about 4 weeks ago but had my band last January. Can/will your surgeon do both your gallbladder and band at the same time? I've read others on here who have. -
I hate you diabetes

Holy crud that is REALLY high!! Are you ok?! Did he tell you what to do to get it down besides the liquid diet? -

DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Omfgmelly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I'm so incredibly sorry. Be careful with your liquids between now and Friday. I'd stay away from juice or anything sugary. Can I ask how high your sugar is running and how low do you need it to be to safely have surgery? I really, really hope this works for you because I am guessing the band and weight loss would help you so much. -
My Intro.....a little late!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to marlena_marie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I really adore Tammy, too. I'm very sad she's leaving. I just got the thing in the mail for that. I haven't been in the bariatric office in almost 2 months because I had my gallbladder out a month ago so I saw Dr. Bhesania in his surgical office after that and now I'm having hernia repair and a tummy tuck May 1. I would love to go to her farewell party but not sure if I can. My grandma just passed yesterday so I'm super busy with funeral arrangements and out of town family this whole week. But, I do want to try to go if I can. -

I'm so glad you're doing so well! I know our doctors have stricter post op diet than most (to others reading this, our surgeons are partners) but it works. Maybe we'll pass each other in the office one day!
